Good course and worth playng it again.

Hi! I have a 20 handicap and have played emerald Lake 6 times. I have ben pleased with the course, facilities and staff.

The driving range is good and a large bucket --I'm guessing it has about 70 balls-- costs $10 if I remember correctly.

The original clubhouse burned down and there is a temporary one in a trailer. It serves the purpose.

The friendliness of the staff varies. I have dealt with very nice and helpful folks and some who have no clue about customer service.

The course is in good shape despite the recent drought. The fairways and greens are fine but some greens do show signs of abuse. I don't blame the course staff for it; I blame the idiots who don't repair their ball's marks.

To me, the course is fairly challenging. With some tee shots you face narrow fairways, substantial changes in elevation and sometimes both. Nonetheless, the course is enjoyable.

The length of the holes is reasonable. I'm 50 and play from the white tees. If I remember correctly, the longest hole is 18 and it is right around 500 yards.

There is a par 3 (The 16th hole I think) that is about 180-185 yards but I can reach it with my 2 hybrid.

My one complain is that sometimes the quality of the people you encounter is less than desirable. Yesterday, there were a couple of guys next to me at the driving range wearing flip flops and tank tops. They teed off 2 groups behind me.

Other than that, I am happy with the place and will play it again.

Hi "ricardomata65" Thank you for the excellent review. We are so glad you enjoyed yourself on this particular day. We have taken your comments into concern and will revisit the proper training for our staff. Thanks!

Skip. It may be cheap but even so it's not worth it.

Due to the attractive low-cost fees and the fact that it is a 9-hole course, I have played here 6 times at different times of the year. It has always been in mediocre shape.

Drainage is poor and you will find standing water and mud throughout the course. The fairways were in decent shape once but weeds have been everywhere the other times. The greens have always been in poor shape with sand and dead grass covering most of the surface.

Trash is common and the red-neck, beer-drinking crowd looking for a cheap round of golf can be an issue some days. So can be overcrowding. The course is cheap and it attracts a ton of players many of which are slow beginners. What should be a quick 9 holes can turn into a 3 1/2 hour round.

The quality of the staff varies and I have dealt with both knowledgeable and friendly folks and others who are rude and absolutely clueless about golf.

Even as a cheap alternative, this course is not worth the trouble. I will not play it again.

2 excellent 9-hole courses: The View and Carolina Pines. 1 9-hole course in bad shape: The Cove. Play the first 2 courses and you will be fine!

We played these 3 courses on June 14th, 2013. Beautiful weather and great course conditions at Carolina Pines and The View. The fairways and greens were in pristine shape, and the roughs were playable.

The Cove, however, was in bad shape with fairways that you could not differentiate from the roughs and greens that had not received maintenance in several days. Several holes were basically unplayable.

Despite The Cove's disappointment, the beauty and challenge presented by Carolina Pines and The View made the afternoon very enjoyable. These two courses are tough without being frustrating and, in my opinion, the most beautiful courses in the Greater Charlotte area.

The hilly terrain and the frequent water hazards make them challenging but playable and fun even for a mediocre player like me.

I would definitely recommend them and look forward to playing them again soon.
