GolfNow deal, first time

Got a deal on GolfNow for $13 per person, 18 holes w/ cart. Teed off around 7:30am and finished at 10:45am; we were a twosome behind a fivesome but they let us pass. Very challenging course with small greens and narrow tee shots/fairways. There are also some holes with blind shots. A couple times I'd get up to me ball and say, "well if I would've known that I would've hit (fill in the blank) off the tee." Lots of undulation on the fairways and greens; hard to find a flat lie or straight putt. Because of this I kept getting the feel of Deacon's Lodge (a poor man's DL). Unfortunately for me I was spraying my driver all day, which you CANNOT do on this course, so I found myself using 4 iron on the shorter par 4's off the tee and this proved to be a good strategy. Length did not seem important; you HAVE to place your shots accurately to have a look at these tiny greens. The greens were a little slow, but I think that was because of the dew and not the cut. Worst/Most disappointing part were the tee boxes. Almost every single one was covered in weeds and were too long. Overall I liked it, especially with the GolfNow deal.

I've been a member at this course since 2010 and I think this year is the best condition I've seen it in. I'm out there during the week for league play and usually Saturday and/or Sunday as well. I've read some reviews about fivesomes and/or slow play; a majority of the time this is the members, but should let a single or twosome play through. And the past couple years I've noticed the course keeps getting busier, which is beneficial for the club.

The greens have never been so true and fast like they are this year, fairways are well manicured, and the rough is challenging with high risk, high reward. The food is phenomenal and reasonably priced for what you get (build-your-own-burger is my choice). They keep 2-3 beers always on tap and then rotate another 2-3 every month so there's always something new to try, plus many more in cans.

They got new carts last year that do not have GPS, so using a range finder or GPS app is beneficial as yardage is only marked at the 200, 150, 100, and scorecard. Avoid bunkers as much as possible. Unfortunately the drainage at the course is not great (it's better now than 2+ years ago), so the bunkers turn into mud pits making it very difficult to guess how the club and ball will go through the sand. The price is a bit much for central MN ($51 for 18 w/ cart on the weekends), but GolfNow has deals you can get (I've seen as low as $10 for 18 w/ cart). I mentioned the beer previously, but the prices for the craft beer are expensive.

Overall a very enjoyable experience; fall time is the best with the leaves changing colors and no mosquitoes!
