Lake Forest Golf Club
Played On 03/22/2018Spend your money somewhere else
This is a one-and-never-again for me and my friend.
I'm sure the staff is trying hard, but this course is awful. They should bulldoze it and start over.
If we hadn't played on a GolfNow Tee Time, we would have asked for our money back after the first 3 holes.
After your approach hits a green, don't check the green for ballmarks; instead, check your ball for greenmarks.
At least 3 of the holes on the Back Nine are unplayable, due to slope against the dog-leg turn, very little grass and huge elevation changes. The last hole is a joke.
I would not play here again if I were offered a free round.
I can say only one positive comment: at least the bunkers had decent sand in them. But this course stinks.
Save your money for another course and play one you will want to play again, certainly NOT this sad pretender. If this were my home course, I would take up tennis.
St. Peters Golf Club
Played On 11/16/2017Still the best greens around
It's my home course, so I am biased.
Everything is turning brown and dormant, but that's true of all courses now.
The greens remain in remarkable condition and still offer the best roll in the area. If you miss a putt here, it's on you.
New superintendent has done a fabulous job, and he is just getting started.
Put this course high on your list for next year, if not over the winter when temperature permits.
St. Peters Golf Club
Played On 10/26/2017Consistently good value course and consistently upgrading
I am prejudiced because I play here often and this is my "home course," but the new Superintendent does a fantastic job keeping this course in outstanding condition.
My partner, also a regular, and I both observed that this was he best the course has ever been in the fall. The putting surfaces are the best in the area available to the public. If you hit a bad putt here, it's on you.
This course is constantly upgrading and putting alot of money into the facility, lately a large amount of zosia fairway sod in a former problem area.
Great value for the money at regular senior prices; a "steal" with a hot time.
Far Oaks Golf Club
Played On 09/27/2017Worth a return visit
My friend and I played on a Hot Deal, so the price was right; we'd never played Far Oaks before.
Unfortunately, they had just punched and sanded their greens for fall aeration, so that detracted somewhat from our experience, but you have to do that to keep your greens healthy.
I liked the course, but I did get tired of the same type of green structure throughout: every green was a forced-carry raised platform, with little or no opportunity for running the ball onto the surface. The fairways are nice and wide, with very good quality zoysia for great lies. The bunkers looked like they had not had any attention for several weeks. Note to staff: if you don't have the resources to properly care for bunkers, let them become grass bunkers. I also got tired of all the blind tee shots on the Back 9, but that's the way the course was designed. For us, this is a once-a-year course on a Hot Deal.
Woods Fort Golf Course
Played On 05/10/2017Greens too severe; no approaches to greens
New ownership has put alot of money into this course, and that does show. Landscaping and rock work are very nice. However, there are too many severe greens which are almost unplayable. #4 is a prime example: the only fair pin placement is far back left; anything else is a goofy-golf joke. We played May 10 and the greens were already like rocks.
The biggest drawback is that there are no mowed approaches to the greens. You cannot run a ball onto these greens; just a few feet off the putting surfaces and you're in U.S. Open style rough. Come on, guys! Mow the approaches and create some collar-length areas around the greens. If you pay anything more than a hot deal price, you will leave feeling you paid too much.
Incline Village Golf Course
Played On 04/10/2017Great Value / Fun Course to Play
My friend and I play this course a couple times a year. It has a great variety of holes with a good selection of tees, depending on your level. The views of the lake and surrounding area can be spectacular with the elevation changes.
With a hot time deal, this was a great value. We started just as a Senior Scramble was finishing, so the course was pretty much open and we flew around in about 3 hours.
Fairways are outstanding. #18 is one of the strongest finishing par 4's in the area. People in the clubhouse always seem glad you are there; that makes a difference to me.
Ocala Golf Club
Played On 03/05/2017Great Value
My friend and I were in Ocala for a golf trip. We booked this course, are glad we did and will definitely play it again. Be prepared for a tough start. If you can get past the first three holes without destroying your scorecard, you have easier holes the rest of the way. Wide fairways, not too much trouble, ample greens, which were surprisingly good. We played with someone who told us all greens and bunkers were redone in 2016. This was the best "bang for the buck" value we experienced in our 5 rounds in Florida.
Juliette Falls
Played On 03/02/2017Strong course; bring your "A" Game
Would definitely like to play this memorable course again. It's a wonderful layout in a nice setting. No two holes alike; no weak holes.
I listed weather as "perfect," which it was until the rain came on the last two holes, but the course was not responsible for that.
My friend and I were in Ocala on a golf trip; this was the strongest of the 5 courses we played. Even at $40 plus, it was a decent value. If you go to Ocala, don't miss this outstanding course.
We played JF on our first day in Florida; wish we had played a few rounds before tackling this challenge.
The Prairies of Cahokia Golf Course
Played On 02/22/2017Fun course to play, good value, worth a second look
Course is short from the regular tees, but it offers several classic risk/reward holes where you must decide at the tee whether to gamble or play smart. Gamble and hit it in play and you've got a flip wedge to the green; gamble and miss and you're in jail or reloading. You can make a lot of birdies, but also some bogeys, doubles or worse.
I can't wait to play this course again when it's green and the grass is not dormant. It appears you need to play this course a few times to know how to play it. There are 3-4 holes I will definitely play differently the second time: a couple more aggressively, a couple with more "discretion" off the tee.
St. Peters Golf Club
Played On 02/16/2017Fine place to play a round with friends
I must say up front that this is my "home course," so I am somewhat biased. However, my friend and I play a lot of courses in this area, so we are qualified to say this: St. Peters has the best greens in the area. We just took a golf trip to Ocala, Florida. Neither of us can putt Bermuda greens worth a shanked wedge; but all that did was remind us how much we missed the greens at St. Peters Golf Club.
The City has been doing extensive work improving the drainage and flood control through rock work on the creek that runs around the course. New cart paths have been installed in some areas. A new green on #8 (to the left of the old green) will be open this spring. Get a Hot Deal at this course for a fantastic value; you will come back.
Bear Creek Golf Club
Played On 11/17/2016Skip this until next year
This course must have about a one-man maintenance crew. The greens are apparently being mowed once a week, if that. There is no sand in the many bunkers; it's like trying to play out of a dry river bed: hard pan clay. If they are not going to maintain their bunkers, they should fill them in and make them grass bunkers. They have mowed the dormant zoysia fairways almost down to the dirt. Play elsewhere: even a hot deal isn't worth it. It takes forever to play, with no course marshals. Perhaps next spring this place will be better.
Thank you for your feedback! We have received a lot of positive feedback on the course this year so your response is important to us. Please try us again in the spring!
