Royal for a reason

Every 2 years, we have a group of guys that go somewhere on the world and golf for a week. This time we chose Ireland and we chose wisely!

There are not enough words for this course. The course, the view, the caddies....everything was first class.

We teed off around 9:30. It was cool and there was a slight wind. My caddy was Rory and he was a great lad. The course will challenge all aspects of your game. You have to drive it well, you need to be able to draw and fade, the greens are just amazing and the course will test you’re imagination. We were finished in less than 4 hours. It was absolutely a treat to play and I would play it 100 Ax’s more if I could.

Not bad for the money

I was in Scottsdale on business and I wanted to check out the TPC. The Stadium Course was my first choice but it was closed so we booked the Champions course. I got a great deal on their website, so I took it. We arrived an hour early and the staff was very friendly and inviting. We putted for a while. I noticed the greens were very slow on the practice green. This was the case throughout the entire course. The driving range was nice and I was able to get warmed up for the round.

The course is challenging. There are lots of spots where you can get into trouble. There is hidden water and lots of desert areas that can trip you up. We were lucky to be paired with 2 locals and they provided lots of good local tips. It truly helped. The greens were very tough to read. They are slow. I know that happens in the summer but it was still a challenge to get any type of check on the ball. The course does have some areas that are in bad shape. There are fairways that are transitioning and that led to some tough lies and some scrambling on the course. The bunkers were in excellent shape and there was no issues when I was in them. The rough is tough. It was thick and challenged you to hit the ball true.

All in all I like the set up. I bet this course is amazing in the fall. I would play it again.

Unbelievable experience

I was in Durham on business and was a guest at Old Chatham. If you ever get a chance to play this course, play it! The club house was gorgeous and gives you a feel for the history of North Carolina. The amenities in the men's locker room were top notch. This place is unreal

The driving range was in incredible shape. We warmed up for 20 mins and hit the course. This course was long and a challenge. You have to drive the ball accurately to score well. Most of th Par 4's were well over 410-430 yards. The shortest par 3 we played was 180. The fairways are wide but the rough can be tough if you miss the fairways. Most of the greens are surrounded by bunkers so you better be on your sand game. The greens were running around 12-13. Very fast and firm. This was a challenge.

I cannot recommend this cours more! Best I have played in North Carolina

A hilly challenge

I have heard about Gary Player courses and decided to give this one a try. It is a challenging course. The layout is good and there are a ton of elevation changes. You better bring all of your shots to play well here. The greens were in good shape and were running a 12. I found them to be hard to read. I did hit one long putt but most were in the vicinity and weren't falling. The course is in good shape. They were doing some work on the course. There are some long Par 3's where you need to be on or you will lose your ball. All in all the course was a good and I would recommend and I will play it again.

If you can stand the heat.....play Troon

I have golfed all over Phoenix and Scottsdale and when I am in town I look to play a new course. This was my first trip to Troon North. I will definitely play this track again.

The course was in great shape. The greens were rolling a 9 and were very soft. I really liked the feel and actually made a few long putts. The fairways were as nice as I have played and we got a fair amount of roll off the tee. I drove with my 3-wood as much as I did with my driver. Bunkers were in good shape. The par 3's were a challenge and required a very accurate tee shot.

It was hot the day we played. There were water stops almost every hole and the marshall drove by and gave us cold towels for our faces and neck. What a difference this made! The staff was excellent and very nice. If you want the "true" desert golf experience, play Troon North!

A challenge

The course was booked for us with our stay at Secrets Resort. We had to pay $45 for the cart per person. The staff was very friendly and everyone was very helpful. We had to take a taxi to the course and it took about 15 mins.

The Driving range was nice and the course itself is really tight. There is water on almost every hole and signs that warn you of Crocs. They are there. The fairways were in perfect shape. Not a bad lie. The rough is really tough and the drives are mostly tight so you will need to be accurate. The bunkers were soft and it took a little to get out. The only disappointing thing was the speed of the greens. The greens were very soft and lush, they just were very slow.

I would highly recommend this course!!

Best course in the Hill Country

I have played here a few times and I am always impressed by the conditions and the hospitality. I was at the resort for a party and we were lucky enough to play 2 rounds. If you play in July....it is HOT. There was a small wind but the weather is absolutly draining. I was exhausted after the round. There are tons of water stops on the course and you will use them. Staying hydrated is a must,

The course is long and FAST!! I hit a drive on #4 that went over 350. I am not a long hitter but got massive roll out of the fairways. If you have ever played off zoysia you will understand. This course requires accuracy off the tee and a daft short game. The par 3's are challenging, and the greens are as fast as I have ever putted on.

If you get the chance to play....do it! It is the best in the Hill Country.

Unreal course

This course was my favorite to play in the Denver area. The views are unbelievable!!! The course itself is in pristine condition. The greens we're rolling an 11. The rough was thick and will challenge you. The elevation changes make this course a memorable experience. If you are in Denver and want to play a great round, play the Ridge! It was well worth the time and money.
