Nice Course, Downgraded due to Staff

I will start by saying I was playing solo and was using a golf cart and pared up with another solo who had his own cart. The course was enjoyable and mostly well maintained. Some of the greens and tee boxes were chopped up and the fairways were very wet.

I was enjoying my round until I got to the 9th hole and a staff member (perhaps the head pro or club house manager) drove up and questioned why both of us had our own carts and that ‘policy’’ is that all carts must have two riders. The guy demanded that me and the stranger I was paired up with share carts, mid-round. I will say I’ve been to courses that have this policy but it’s enforced by the club house or the starter. I’ve never had this particular situation happen. Needless to say it left a bad taste in my mouth regarding the course. If your course is going to be cheap and not have enough carts, be sure to enforce your policy before people start playing their round.

Enjoyable Course, Poor Service

I would have provided a higher rating for this course however the staff really took away from the experience. The course layout was fun and presented more challenge than I initially thought. Most fairways are pretty open but good placement of trees, sand, doglegs and water cause difficulties from shot to shot. The course was also in solid condition, the greens were a bit beat up but everything else was very in line. The negative part of my review concerns the staff/facilities. Not only did the staff fail to properly equip the carts (no divot replacement mix, GPS was giving wrong readings, wouldn’t switch holes, and randomly would shut down your cart and tell you to go in reverse even when there was nothing to indicate you were in an area you should not be) but there were no rangers on the course. After being stuck behind an incredibly slow group for 9 holes, I called the pro shop to ask for a ranger, the person in the pro shop acknowledged the slow play and said a ranger would be sent, I also requested a ranger with the cart GPS screen but no one ever showed up. It was a very slow round that caused problems for my group and a caused a pile up of groups behind us. It was extremely disappointing and frustrating that the staff was not up to par.

Good, Bad & Ugly

The St Andrews Course had some nice features , a good club house and was a fun course overall. However, the 5.5 hour round was atrocious and whoever is the marshal/ranger should be fired, I didn’t see them once and it was a brutally slow day. Add to that they charge $23 for a cart, which was almost as much as I paid for the whole round.

Solid, Suburb Course

This was a solid course which had a nice variety of designs on the course. While not overly challenging, there is enough to keep you interested hole to hole. Good blend of trees, sand, long/dry grass, and water.

Fun Golf Course But Pricey

This was a nice course that was in very good condition. The course was a bit wet but I think that’s standard because it’s next to the lake. The course design was pretty good, the holes along the lake are what sell it though. The rest of the holes not along the lake are still nice enough but not anything novel or surprising. Overall this was an enjoyable round but the value just doesn’t add up, it shouldn’t cost $80 to $120+ to play a round on this course (if you can be conservative and hit the ball straight, it minimizes the difficulty quickly). I would recommend the course but I wouldn’t spend the money unless I got some form of discount.

Fun Lay Out Lots of Water

This was a pleasant course. Not overly long unless you play the gold tees, the course layout is very interesting with many bunkers, water and tight fairways. Some parts of the course were water damaged and the traps were filled with stones and pebbles. But there was lots of wildlife, lots of water and scenic holes.

The greens were very slow and fairly damaged. It was a fun course to play.

Solid Forest Preserve Course

This is the best Forest Preserve course I have played in terms of course layout. The conditions are still dry and not in great shape but it was enjoyable. The pace of play wasn’t great and the course was backed up a lot from the course over booking.

Solid Burbs Course

This was my first time playing this course and I can say I would play it again. It was not very difficult and fairly short, however the course was kept in good condition and the greens provided some challenge. There was a good mix of water, doglegs, bunkers, and tree obstacles. All things considered it was an enjoyable round. The rates are a little overpriced but just by a bit.

Enjoyable, Fall Course

I’ve played the west course before but this was my first time playing the east course. While fairly short, this course was entertaining and would play well in the fall. Great mix of water, sand, trees and dog legs to keep you on your toes hole by hole. The fairways and rough were very well manicured. The back 9
plays much tougher and tighter than the front but both are enjoyable. The sand traps were not in great condition and my cart’s GPS didn’t work but that’s about all the negative I have for this one.

Solid, Long Course

This was my first time playing at this course and I was almost rained out. Fortunately, I got out on the course and definitely enjoyed myself. The course has some incredibly long par 5's, many dog legs, and a good mix of water and sand hazards.

The course was not in the best condition, partly because of the heavy rain but there were also many chewed up tee boxes and the fairways were a bit beaten up as well.

Overall, I enjoyed playing this course and would go back. However, I would say book this course as a "Hot Deal" for around $45 for a round with cart, the regular price is closer to $70 which is far too expensive for this course in its current conditions.

Fun Course

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this course but I thought it looked intriguing and I was right. The course doesn’t play too hard but it throws in enough obstacles to make you focus.

The course is full of dog legs, blind shots, tricky sand traps, thick rough placed strategically, and lots of natural hazards. These all ended up giving you a good experience and really not knowing what to expect one hole to another. The par 3’s were all difficult, mix in some long par 4’s and really long par 5’s and you have a good afternoon of golf.

I recommend the blue tees otherwise things get too easy and the tee boxes were a bit chewed up. The worst part was the pace of play, the ranger was no where to be found and there was a huge bottleneck for 14 holes which really impacted things for me.

Beginner Course

If you are a beginner or just looking to have a relaxed round of golf, the Red course is fine for that. The course layout is extremely bland, short and repetitious.

Sand traps are not kept in good shape and there are virtually no yardage markers which makes it extremely difficult to judge your distances.

The greens are small which provides some challenge and they had more roll that you would expect.

Aside from one or two holes, there isn’t anything memorable about this course. It’s quite easy and the only difficulty is trying to figure out how far from the green you are.

Challenging enjoyable course

This course is in excellent condition with a great variety of hazards, well manicured, tough greens and very enjoyable.

The Pace of play was slow but it was hard to be mad playing on a course of this caliber. I will definitely visit again.

Easy Course, Bad Conditions

Perhaps it was just bad timing for me, but this course was in horrible shape. Construction was everywhere and workers on at least half the holes, fair way was patchy with lots of dirt, tee boxes were overgrown, and the greens were soaked despite there being no rain. The course itself was very easy and there weren’t really holes that were interesting or creative.

Cart paths and fairways were very bumpy with lots of obstructions such as big bumps or big construction holes in the ground.

Average Burbs Course - North Course

My round was particularly slow, but aside from the pace the course layout was very bland and there was not much difference between the rough and the fairway. However, the course had been kept up and the greens were cut well in addition to a lot of difficult greens.

Overall this is just a standard suburb course; there is a minor element of challenge and not a lot of complexity or novel holes.

Solid Burbs Course

Not overly difficult but fairly unique course layout, big, rolling greens, and difficult bunker placements make this a fun course to try out. The greens were a bit beat up but otherwise the course was in good condition.

Solid Course but a bit bland

This was my first time playing the Starboard side course. It was maintained very well, the greens and fairways were excellent. There is a lot of good sights on the course as well and it is a competitive course. The lay out does get bland, there are no trees to worry about and despite lots of scenic water most of it is not really in play, so you only have to worry about sand traps and high grass. I found that if you just focus on accuracy and not going into the rough you really remove much of the challenge of the course.

Overall a very nice course but a bit over priced for a fairly straight forward layout.

Solid Fun Course

The course was extremely wet due to rain and the sand traps were basically unplayable but the course was in solid condition otherwise. The layout includes a good amount of water hazards, many sand traps and dog legs. The course keeps things interesting with hills and dog legs but also provides some additional challenges on almost every hole.

It can be tough to know where you are going on your first time through since the score cards don’t seem to have a hole layout on them. There is a decent amount of challenge to the course, it’s not super tough but every hole presents you with some difficulty for errant shots.

Great Course Great Value

Aside from the course playing a bit short I don’t have anything negative to say. The greens were very tough, the course was in great condition, plenty of water hazards and sand traps and some pretty tight fairways. I would definitely play again.
