The Courses at Watters Creek - Player's Course
Played On 03/12/2015Great Facility
I recently played the 9 hole par 3 course at Watters Creek when I came across their hot deal on Golf Now. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. It was in fantastic condition for early march especially considering how brutal the winter has been. The employees were extremely friendly and the price was fantastic. I did not realize they had a full, state of the art, practice facility. I can't wait to go back and try it out. Highly recommend this for a total golfing experience.
WestRidge Golf Course
Played On 12/10/2014Fun track in great condition!
I played this course because I found a great "hot deal" on GolfNow.com. I was surprised to find it was home of the Hank Haney golf school. The course was in great condition and a lot of fun. The fairways are the greens large, making for a fun round. It has 6 par 4s, 6 par 3s and 6par 5s. I loved it! This allows for practice on all aspects of my game. A good time and I would highly recommend this course for anyone lookin for a fun change of pace!
Briggs Woods Golf Course
Played On 10/09/2014Back 9 Ruined my oveall experience.
This is decent little muni course. I gave this course a less than glowing review for one main reason. It seems the people that maintain the course and maybe even the original architect have a very evil sence of humor. There are about four holes on the back nine on this course that set any golfer up for failure. I am a single digit handicapper and I was playing with some friends that are avg golfers with handicapps between 15-24. After playing an enjoyable first 12 holes the nightmare began. With on one else on the course, it took us two hours to play the remaining 6 holes. The next five holes are very heavilly wooded with fairways barely 15 yards wide and that is after splitting a gap of trees that is maybe 10 yards wide. Anything other than a perfect drive resulted in a lost ball. Dont get me wrong, I like a challenging course as much as the next guy, but it is safe to say that this stretch of holes are beyond challenging, they are down right unfair. The tee shot on Holes #13,15 & 16 are a joke! The sad part is, they have such potential to be a great holes if only they would trim back some of the trees. If you decide to play this course, remeber my words, your score will take a beating in this stretch of holes. Like I said, it is a joke and unlike anything I have ever seen. The only reason I would ever come play this course again is because it is very cheap with the GolfNow Hot Deal.
Honey Creek Golf Club
Played On 10/07/2014I Was Truly IMPRESSED!
This course blew me away. I have been working in northern Iowa for three months and whenever I get a chance to get away I usually get on golf now and look for a good deal on a round of golf. Im one of those guys that only looks for th "Hot Deals". Well I literally stumbled accross Honey Creek and boy and I glad I did. This is by far my favorite Public Course in Northern Iowa. The front nine is a fablous layout with wide fareways, large bunkers, tall grass and water hazards. It is fun and fair with plenty of places to get in trouble if you are not on your game. I absolutly love the front nine layout. It reminds me of some of the PGA courses I've played in the past.
The back nine is a different story. This is a beautifully scenic nine holes. So if you like to take pictures, you will quickly fall in love with the back nine, it is truly gorgeous! However, it is my opinion that they tried to hard to squeze a golf course into the hillside and river valley and it loses its PGA feel. The back nine is extremely challenging with a lot of elevation changes and slanted fairways. It will test even the very best golfers. Double digit hadicappers will struggle to enjoy their round.
All and all it is a very nice golf course and most likely people will remember it because of their good play on the front nine and the beauty of the amazing scenery on the back nine. I would highly recommend this course to anyone and everyone. A great value, an amazing experience and a beautiful place to spend the day.
Moody Gardens Golf Course
Played On 6/19/2013Great track, A must play if your are in the Galveston area!
I was on vacation with my family and went to play golf while everyone else went to the beach. I am a 6 handicap and play golf all over the country, but after looking at the condition of the beach in Galveston, I wasnt expecting much from the golf course. Boy was I wrong, this golf course has a great layout and it was in fantastic condition. The fairways are very large and forgiving but with water on every hole and strategicly placed bunkers it is challenging enough for even the scratch golfer. The condition of the fairways and greens were perfect, some of the best I've seen in Texas. The large greens are not what I would call "fast" but because of the perfect condition, they roll true and straight. The wind is always blowing off the gulf coast, so expect a 10-20 mph wind, but the course is laid out in a way that 1/2 of the holes play into the wind and the others play down wind. The course has five, Par 5's, a feature that I really liked.
They have a good driving range and a fantastic practice putting and chipping area. A great course and worth the green fees, I wish I could say the same about the beach!
A really, really fun course to play!
Cypress Lakes Golf Club
Played On 2/3/2013Good layout but rediculously fast and undulating greens
I am a 5 handicap and have played courses all over the country, but the greens at Cypress Lakes are rediculous and unfair. I normally like fast greens as long as they run true. These greens were covered with spike and ball marks and they are as hard as a rock! The day I played was windy and the ball would roll around due to the wind. One hole I had an uphill put and hit it just past the hole, the ball stopped and began rolling back down the hill. This kind of thing was not the exception but rather the rule on nearly every green. It made the course unfair and I will not go back to waste my money.
