Riverside Golf Club
Played On 05/10/2022Greens are the best municipal greens
Best greens I have played in the Dallas area. No markings or blight, the greens rolled smooth.
Enjoyed the links style layout. First time on course, so played conservative, not knowing the doglegs or terrain around the greens or up the fairway.
Definite new playing course for me, as I look to break 80.
Old at Firewheel Golf Park
Played On 04/19/2022Good to be out at Old Course
Come to FireWheel about once a month or so to take advantage of the uphill and downhill slopes where playing the good roll can come into strategy when getting out of tight spots. The elevated greens are challenging and were rolling smooth. Drive able fairways.
back nine is the best, with the lake, and I think 16, 17, 18 are great closing holes.
Shady Valley Golf Club
Played On 12/16/2021Great Course with excellent greens
A little windy and chilly, just under 60 degrees but the day was clear and the course was relatively clear.
Great greens, easy to reach, and the fairways played well, with limited divots -- course is well maintained.
Enjoyed my day and liked the uphill hole followed by reverse direction downhill, believe it is early in the back nine.
Good uphill/downhill run
Grand Oaks Golf Club
Played On 11/24/2021Great course for sharpening skills
Last two major golf lessons have been followed by trips to Grand Oaks. The wide fairways on the front nine, small greens, and elevated greens on par 3s make the course ideal for learning and fine tuning your game.
par 4 Dog leg right on front nine, not sure of #, is drivable, and goes along a creek, that runs parallel to the next hole. Good two hole stretch.
Greens are small, bunkers are playable and one of the reasons I like this course, as so many are giving up the bunkers for grass traps or none at all.
Tangle Ridge Golf Club
Played On 04/29/2021Finally
Been playing courses around the Dallas area for about a year now, give or take and finally found a course that I like. Not playing in someone's backyard, where I have to worry about a long iron not fading and going into someone's house and a drop for an OB.
Wasn't a flat course laid out between tree lines, where you go back and forth, with fairways parallel and tight with each other, like Grand Oaks or Prairie Lakes, there was actually some course architecture at work here.
Course was on a ridge, with real elevation changes, not just a tee on a hill. Fairways did not interact with each other, leaving plenty of room for shots back to the fairway.
Differs from other flat courses that just go back and forth between tree lines, with no real imagination to course design. There were times where I had to actually shot shape and play the course as it was designed, not hammering drivers here and there, but using a 1 iron and 3w off the tee, and taking advantage of the downhills and valleys to get your ball in play for an approach shot.
Best course I have played for less than <$30 in years!!!!
Hi, u4030194. Thank you so much for the great review. We are glad you had an incredible time, and we hope to see you again soon! Thanks for choosing Tangle Ridge Golf Club.

Riverchase Golf Club
Played On 10/13/2020Good open course
The play starts off tight around the man made lake, but opens up as you go further during play.
Par 3s are challenging with elevation changes, and par 5s offer plenty of landing space.
Bunkers are not offensively in the way, but play to bad shots and mishits.
Greens were smooth, no blight or rough spots.
Hi u4030194. We appreciate you leaving a review and rating us. We will inform the entire team, so they know their hard work is paying off. We look forward to having you back at Riverchase Golf Club!
Irving Golf Club
Played On 10/12/2020Open Course
Very open course, with inviting fairways and good selection of 4s and 5s.
Driver came into play on most of the longer holes, with definite use of 19 degree and 22 degree clubs for second shots.
Bunkers are avoidable, greens played well, a few were a but dramatic with valleys and hills, but nothing a good putter couldn't handle.
u4030194, thanks for the amazing review and for choosing Irving Golf Club. We hope to see you again soon!
Old at Firewheel Golf Park
Played On 10/10/2020Get out your Driver
Links type feel with the open fairways, only thing missing was the fescue grass roughs and rolling greens. First time playing Old Course and Driver was workable on every par 4 and 5. One tight fairway on 9.
Fairway bunkers were well placed and had actual sand, not lump clay. Cannot wait for rakes to come back into existence, but was able to get clean outs from them anyhow.
Hybrids are a definite for 2nd shots - overshot two greens by playing a 19 degree when I should have hit the 22 degree. Par 5s are reachable in 2 for long hitters, and 4s are there for you to take advantage of.
Loved the dogleg left 18, calls for strategy whether to hook one down the dogleg or play it safe with a layup.
Par 3s invited a good landing, allowing for left to right play.
Good place of play, greens a but dry, but we are in Texas.
Old at Firewheel Golf Park
Played On 10/10/2020Great Course, Rolling Fairways
Loved the course. Open fairways allowed for use of Driver on most of the holes. Linkish play, without the high fairway rough. If you like swinging big and going long, the old course is for you.
Water really not a factor, you have to really hook or slice to get wet. #18 is a good sharp left dog leg to finish, and #9 has a challenging valley shot with bunker protected green that calls for good short iron play.
Hybrids came into to play on most 2nd shots, with 4s reachable due to generous pathways to greens. Flew two greens with a 19 hybrid, should have toned down to 22 degree.
Fairway bunkers were placed well and the sand was fine, as is, not lumpy clay.
5s were a challenge - open fairways allowed you to go for the green in two and smooth, clean fairways allowed for beneficial rolls and easy pars.
Greens were good, no blight, and they ran smooth. Can't wait till we get rakes back in the traps.
Duck Creek Golf Course
Played On 08/19/2020Great Holes
Very challenging holes with great pin placements, especially on the par 3s.
#8 is a great hole, calling for precise 2nd shot, with water in right coming into play unexpectedly.
Bear Creek Golf Club - West Course
Played On 07/01/2020Great Course
Started as solo, picked up a partner on hole 1, and we added another on hole 2 to speed up play for everyone.
Great course layout, fairways were clean, greens were moderate and challenging. Good placement of bunkers. Lot of open fairways to hit Driver on, good fairways to hit, with bunkers placed in areas to 'reward' misplaced shots.
One of the better courses I have played in the Dallas area. Yes, you are near the airport, the plane noise is worth the green fee. Good finishing hole, and the par 5's are reachable in 3.
Loved the elevated par 3 on the back 9, and the blind shot 4s are fun to play.
A definite course to play in Dallas, especially if you are on a layover and have your clubs.
Starter was real helpful, and staff was courteous.
Waterview Golf Club
Played On 06/29/2020Windy Day but fun
Course is well laid out, fairways were clean with very few divots. Greens had no blight or burn marks,.
No rakes on bunkers, but very little traffic in them.
Wind was a nuisance all day long, and called for hybrid on most long holes to keep it in the fairway. The slightest off hit on 3W or Driver and you were up against the fences.
Tree lines along fairway made getting back on fairway a challenge and called for short stickin a 5I or pumping a 9I high and hoping it cleared the trees, went between them and landed green side or better.
Had a threesome in front of me that had no idea of golf etiquette of 'playing thru" or I would have finished in 3 1/2 hours, not 4 1/4. They should have let me tee off on #2 at the latest. Passed the wait time by re chipping green shots and daydreaming. Can't expect everyone to be courteous and respect fast play.
Let a group behind me join in on Hole 16 to finish off behind the slow moving folks in front (new golfers spraying left and right like drunken fireman). We have all been there at once.
Highly recommend course. Greens and fairways were pristine.
Old Brickyard Golf Course
Played On 06/26/2020Fade won't cut it
Great, challenging course. Elevated tees playing thru a valley, with hills, water, mounds, and fairways that call for hybrids and long irons over 3W and Drivers.
Windy day, and I stuck to 19 degree hybrid to keep ball in play. Watch for water, ravines, and balls going off the fairway to 40 ft drops.
Your mid iron game must be accurate. Due to wind and Tstorms, was only able to play front 9.
There are air pockets, valleys where you have to aim at 45 degree angle to green if you want to play the wind on #4 par 3. Better if you half swing a 5 iron and play it low. LOL
If you are good at carving the wind, and have a natural draw, then this course is for you, for all the hazards are on the right side. If you have a fade, bring a few balls you care not to lose and hope for the best.
Bear Creek Golf Club - West Course

Country View Golf Club
Played On 06/25/20201st timer
Great course, liked the layout. Good par 4s, only 2 par 5s.
17 is tricky. 4 of the 4s are drivable.
Course calls for strategic play. Use your hybrid on some short doglegs, and tight fairways.
Definitely play again.
Thank you for your review. We will pass along your positive experience to our team at Country View Golf Club. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

The Links At Muny
Played On 09/01/2019Home Course
Grew up playing this course, The city has allowed it to go into slight disrepair.
Greens are so so, with not a lot of smooth puts, but the greens are also small and challenging, good for bump and runs, not loft shots.
Ease of pace, and wide fairways allow for quick rounds.
Some remodeling and use of all open areas would make the course better, #6 could be turned into a dog leg left with a new green, and the 6th green used for #4 tee. Just ideas.
The Rockland Farm Course at Shenandoah Valley
Played On 05/08/2019Do Not Stereotype People
First thing said to me was "There will be no cutting holes!"
Had no clue what the golf attendant meant, until he said people skip around holes to avoid slower players. There was a Senior League that morning.
1. That is rude to accuse me of being a skipper before you even hear me say Hello, Sir, How are you? This is the 4th time in the last two weeks that courses sold me tee times during tournaments, either before or after, and gave me attitude about it. Please do not book tee times during tourneys and treat ME as the intruder. Show some respect for the solo golfer out to work on their game and enjoy a day playing golf.
2. Former Navy, I follow the rules and respect the game of golf.
3. Jack, one of the Starters and Rangers joined me on the back nine, which was fine, but I was enjoying a solo round working on the mental aspects of the game. Not liking someone just "joining in" who was not even on the tee times near me.
Some golfers play by the rules, like me, and respect the game, please show some respect to us by not calling us 'hole jumpers' before we even say Hello.
Bull Run Golf Club
Played On 05/02/2019Tournament Really?
My tee time for 12:20 was moved to 12:45 due to an ongoing tournament, You should not be taking tee times during a tournament.
I was given a cart to drive, then immediately had it taken away.
Next time I hope there is not a tourney.
Thanks for the amazing review and for choosing Grand Oaks Golf Club. We hope to see you again soon!
