Very challenging course

Ever since I first played here, I've loved this course, as it's very different from all the others. As others have outlined before, this is a not a course for high handicaps or learner golfers, as there are a lot of longer ( 200yd) carries over deep valleys and the greens are very challenging.
This course will eat you up if you make mistakes, so bring your best game.

Gem of a course

Played yesterday morning @8am with a buddy, so we got paired up with a father & son ( Hello to the 2 Mike's ;) ).

Every staff member we met was extremely courteous. There was one instance where we were travelling between holes and encountered three greenkeepers heading in the opposite direction. They all moved off the path, stopped and gave us right of way. I thought this was a nice touch that was an obvious management instruction. Super customer service.

Course conditions were great.

- Greens quite fast and very true. I would suggest to improve whatever they're doing once they moved the holes, as older holes are very apparent for a seemingly long time after they're replaced.

- Bunkers have lovely white sand and are great to play out of. The natural areas ( large bunker-type areas beside some fairways) are very well kept too.

- Tee boxes are huge, well kept and flat.

- Fairways for the most part were good but need a bit more work. The 9th hole especially is quite bare. If you go to a high end course then you'll understand that a good fairway is like a carpet, with a little bit of bounce.

Didn't sample food.

Speed of play was good, 4hrs for the round. Spotted a marshall a few times, making sure everything was in order.

Liked the way the starter was organized and gave a wee speech about divots etc.

Carts are top notch, with a big screen that can keep score and gives GPS distances to everything. I didn't use my rangefinder once, which is alien to me lol. Just don't drive too far into natural areas or the cart will stop. Found out this last year when my boss got in trouble ( was so funny).

Can't wait to go back!

Fantastic golf course

Great layout. Relatively easy course for your driver, as there's barely any trees, so lots of space for wayward shots, but fescue awaits the really bad ones. No big carry's to worry about.

Immaculate conditions everywhere.

Greens rolled fast and true.

Bunkers have deep and fluffy sand.

Carts use batteries which are quieter, so less intrusive on other golfers. All are equipped with a very clear GPS.

Every employee, from the cart guys, the starter, the marshals, the cart girl and the wait staff were all very friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Quite short but well looked after

First time playing, pace of play was fine for a Sunday afternoon, about 4.5hrs.

Quite hilly so definitely use a cart.

Bunkers were amazing, deep and soft sand.

Greens have a lot of break to them but they are true. A tad bouncy which makes them slow. Very well looked after though.

Appreciate the signage, some courses don't bother.

Beautiful course with great greens

Just got back from playing CW for the first time and was very impressed.

Great fall rate of $45 incl tax walking.

Very friendly starter, who gives a bit of course advice and also hands out a little sheet telling you the pin positions for the day, love this touch.

Greens are one of the best I've played all year, never mind this fall. They haven't been aerated at all yet, which is a rare find at this time of the year, but they have put some fertilizer on, but this didn't make any difference at all. Greens are massive, so make sure you get on the correct level, otherwise you'll find a two-putt hard to come by. Putts were very true.

Layout is great and can be challenging, esp for a first timer, but this just adds to the experience in my opinion. Fescue was cut back but my playing partner told me it's thick in the summer.

The sand in the bunkers is nice and fluffy, which to me always says a lot about the calibre of a course.

Unfortunately we didn't get to sample any food inside, but might be playing again in a few days and will try then.

Overall, can't find ONE issue with the course and will definitely be back and will also be recommending to others.

Great setup overall. Could use a few tweaks. Play it before its gone!

Lots of friendly staff to help with setting up the bags/carts. Just drive up and pop your trunk and they'll look after your bag while you park.

Course is very nice, back 9 being nicer. Greens were just ok, I expected them to be faster. But they are massive, so you should be able to hit them easily enough.

One thing I love about this course is the way course information is displayed, both the rocks showing the hole details and sign posts telling you where the next teeboxes are. Some courses fail in this regard but Lionhead does it best.

Pace of play was a little slow for a weekday, but I think this is mainly down to the fact that the other 18 was booked up with a big outing of what looked like 60+ players. About 5 hrs total with cart.

One major peeve I would have with this course is the bunkers are terrible. The sand is not deep and are full of rocks. My playing partner damaged his SW in the bunker on 18, dented a groove in fact. I realize some courses want the 'natural' elements in a golf course but not at the expense of damaging someone's club.

I'll play Legends next week, as that looks to be the better track, hoping bunkers are better ( or else I should just try avoid being in any :) )

Word on the street is that 9 holes from the masters course will be developed into housing in the next few years.
