They have had multiple problems with the greens when they were bent grass. The solution was to install MiniVerde Hybrid Bermuda grass. Since the installation of the new greens, every spring there has been at least one green they have almost completely lost and up to almost 4 entire greens one winter.
This spring is no different. The front of hole 3 needs a re-sod and a growth period to repair the damage. It is nothing but green sand and painted dirt. Just when I thought that was bad, I saw the green at Hole 4. The Hole 4 green needs to be closed down and completely resurfaced, there is more painted dirt then blades of grass on the green.
I appreciate the initiative Mill Creek showed to put in Hybrid Bermuda greens. However, over time it has been proven in the region that MiniVerde is a failure. Champions Bermuda greens have lasted better through the very cold February / March months we have gotten the last few years.
The facility, the staff, the conditions elsewhere on the course are all very good. However, without any greens you really don't have a golf course, you have a well maintained an expensive driving range.
Until late summer or early fall, I would pass on this course and opt to play at one of the other courses that has Champions Bermuda greens.
