Since the city took over this course they've made a ton of improvements. This week they punched the fairways and greens so Im looking forward to seeing how they turn out in the next couple weeks.
The staff is awesome, too! I love coming here, always feel welcomed.
It's a great executive golf course and you just can't beat the price.

I always get excited to play here. At first glance, one wouldn't expect much from a golf course that is built in a municipal river system. However, it is well maintained, challenging, and beautiful in it's own right. Bring lots of balls, especially if you play a fade, as the tee boxes and even fairways mostly favor a draw shot. I recommend a before-7 a.m. tee-time as well if you want to be finished in under 4.5 hours. This can be easily accomplished, as they tend to start as early as 5 a.m. The first 3 holes are well lit, also, so don't worry about starting a few minutes before sunrise.

I enjoy the layout of the course, and the greens are consistently in good condition. If it wasn't for how rude and pushy the staff is, I would play here far more often. I might even put up with them if I could play a round for around $20. Sadly, this is not the case.
On my last round our group was 20+ minutes ahead of schedule after the 5th hole, according to the GPS in the cart. Yet, somehow, the starter was hounding us about our pace and saying we were behind and needed to catch up. Reality is that we had started 15 minutes after the group in front of us, so naturally there was a gap. We caught up anyway within 2 holes and then ended up waiting at every tee box after that.
This is only one most recent example of receiving terrible customer service at San Juan Hills. This course requires a serious staff culture adjustment if they want people to keep coming back. Multiple staff members are rude, pretentious, and unwelcoming.
