Lakeside Golf Course
Played On 04/15/2021Pleasant First Time Encounter
I was surprised to learn of this relatively nearby course which I had never heard of. It proved to be a nice surprise, although it lacks water hazards. There are lots of well-designed dog-legs and trees. Due to the drought we have been experiencing, the course was a bit dried out, but I think they are doing a good job of keeping it playable. I played in a twosome and was neither held up nor pushed from behind. I was surprised to discover we had completed our round in 3 hours and 15 minutes. I did not enter the clubhouse except to check in and didn't have time for the restaurant, but the facilities look nice.
Dunes Golf Club
Played On 12/31/2014Great Layout, Condition Improving
We played on a chilly, overcast day, but the round was enjoyable. The layout is challenging, but fair. The greens were mostly in pretty good condition, but there were numerous local areas of distress. There were many areas outside the fairways where the grass was covered in some sort of fungus that looks like goose dropping, making the footing treacherous. I hope the condition continues to improve, but I'll be back because I like the course.
The Spruce Creek Preserve Golf Club
Played On 04/25/2014Good Layout but Inconsistent Greens
The course was in pretty good condition with the exception of inconsistency on the greens. With a few exceptions, the greens were nicely filled in. However, the front nine greens seemed to not have been mowed that morning. They were bumpy and very slow. The back nine greens seemed more consistent and definitely faster than the front nine. This is such an easy fix that I would not hesitate to play this course again.
Oak Hills Golf Club
Played On 03/14/2014Pleasant Course if You Can Keep it in the Fairways
The greens are maintained in generally very good shape on this course. The fairways are fairly well maintained, as well. However, a shot into the rough has a good chance of being played off dirt rather than grass. The clubhouse facilities are non-existent, but once you're on the course, it is a pleasant experience.
Twisted Oaks Golf Club
Played On 8/23/2013Nice course, but what happened to those greens?
I've played Twisted Oaks many times because I like the layout, and it is usually in very good shape. This time, however, the greens were in distress. Nearly every green evidenced patches of significant distress. The flags had been placed in the better areas, but any long putt was forced to pass through some of the bad areas, resulting in bounces and deflections. We teed off very early, but we never saw a green that had been cut - roostertails on every putt!
Pine Ridge Golf Club – Little Pine
Played On 6/21/2013Nice Layout but Distressing Lack of Maintenance
This course has a nice layout, but it has been in terrible shape for over a year. We only played it again to see if it had recovered - it has NOT. The fairways are sparse, but the greens are a disgrace - much bare dirt interspersed with rough, unevenly mown grass and weeds. It's sad to see a course that used to be very nice go downhill so badly.
Sherman Hills Golf Club
Played On 5/8/2013Nice rolling terrain, well-maintained, but lacking backdrops
The greens and fairways on this course, with its rolling terrain, are beautifully maintained. However, most greens have no landscaping behind them to give them character or definition. Many of the front nine fairways are bordered by undeveloped land that has been cleared of native vegetation in anticipation of development that never occurred. Hence, no trees.
Silverthorn Country Club
Played On 3/27/2013One of the best values in the area
Great layout and well maintained. However, players need to learn to repair ball marks on the greens. Greens are well-maintained except for this glaring problem.
Citrus Springs Golf & Country Club
Played On 1/10/2013Nice layout and in excellent condition.
Citrus Springs has a very interesting layout, offering plenty of challenge without brbeing brutal. The greens and fairways were in excellent condition.
Crystal River Golf Club
Played On 10/12/2012Well Groomed and Fun to Play
A forgiving course with wide, flat fairways that are well-maintained. There is a fair amount of water, but most does not come into play unless you hit a very wayward shot. The fairways and greens were in very good condition.
