Tijeras Creek Golf Club
Played On 03/14/2019My new favorite course
I mostly play the cheapest public courses I can find. Occasionally I splurge for a little better course and am sometimes disappointed by the higher priced courses. Tijares Creek was fantastic. The staff was friendly and treated everyone with respect. It was a busy day and they were trying to get everyone out on time . they managed to do it without pushing anyone.
Really two courses, front nine meanders thru homes with lush fairways , water and sand traps. Deep rough but not really all that tight. Elevations go up and down over rolling hills . Greens in perfect conditions. Back nine goes thru canyons and with just a bit tighter fairways and are still in great shape. I would play here everyday if I could

I play this course quite often and know it well. Very few holes are the same and I like the changes from hole to hole. It would be considered short for most golfers but do not mistake that as "easy". The greens have always been in pretty good shop (though they are a little small). The fairways have been improve greatly in the last year (used be brown and hard). Trees have been trimmed ( i personally have hit enough of them that i am surprised they are still standing) and/or removed. Mostly the greens are medium to slow speed that it is just best to go right at the hole. Like most courses you will be penalized on nearly every hole if you go over the green (best to be a little short and in front of the greens if you are between clubs). 2, 7, 9, & 18 will play a little longer than they look (ocean breezes) and 10, 12, 17, will probably play a little shorter than they look. Again this course can be much tougher than it looks because the greens are a little smaller than some other courses you might watch your ball run off the green on 1, 4, 12, 15 after hitting what you thought was a good shot. The greens were under repair in early November and as some others had noted were pretty rough , but they have bounced back nicely in the last week or so. There are some pretty good mid day deals on this course offered through golfnow and while there can be an occasional painfully slow playing groups out on the course some days I mostly complete a midweek early afternoon round between 4 to 4 1/2 hours. Saturdays (beer drinking buddys day it seems) or Sunday (couples day it seems) tend to run 45 minutes longer. BTW the weather is almost always perfect for golf in Huntington Beach. The Hotdogs and sandwiches are pretty good as well
Diamond Valley Golf Club

I was out in Hemet for business. Actually made a wrong turn and got lost in the middle of no where when I spotted this lush looking golf course. What the heck I thought. This course was in the best shape I have seen a public course in so cal since drought. Fairways are green , soft and just perfect (wish I spent more time there). Rough is cactus sagebrush and rocks (wish I spent less time there) greens are fast and tiered. Water holes are beautiful and overall the course just a great place to spend a half day. Worth the drive. Clubhouse is just a place to check in. They have some pre-made sandwiches and hot dogs (cooked in a microwave) canned beers and sodas. All and all best wrong turn I ever made.
