Forest Park Golf Course
Played On 09/10/2021Needs Renovation
The excuse that is often given for a public course is "it's in pretty good condition considering how much play the course gets". In the case of Forest Park that just doesn't fly. Of course it gets a lot of play, but the condition of the tee boxes is horrific, not necessarily because of too much play but because the trees on the course are so overgrown they completely shut out natural light on the tee boxes. The fairways and shot lines to the greens are also blocked out by overhanging limbs, so even if you think you have shot at the pin quite often you don't. The course needs to have about 50% of the trees taken out or cut back. Our group also had a confrontation with the group in front of us as the waited for the group in front of them to clear the green on the 7th hole, a 325 yard par 4! When I questioned why they were waiting they got insulted as if I was questioning their manhood. When they finally chose to hit they all hit miserable shots nowhere near the green, then blamed me for rushing them.

Played for the first time today, got out right on time, paired with 3 nice players. Most tee boxes were in good shape, fairways smooth and lush, greens in great shape but a little slow. Played from the white tees, about 6300 yards. Fairways were hard, so got nice roll. Water on only 2 holes, bunkers were in beautiful shape. Greens has some deceptive break and rolled very true. Overall, a very pleasant round and would definitely play there again.

Because I like the layout here I have played this course for years. I have seen it in various states of condition and currently it is in pretty bad shape. The bunkers are a disaster, either mud or hard pan. The fairways were either overgrown or littered with grass clippings, and although the greens were lush, they were so overgrown it was nearly impossible to get the ball to the hole. Excuses usually range from either not enough rain or too much rain, but it all adds up to a less than acceptable playing experience.

The new owners of this course deserve huge credit for the transformation of this once downtrodden hard pan track. Even though it gets lots of play from hackers, retired cops and robbers, the course's beauty is starting to show. The greens are tough but beautiful, the fairways are lush and even most of the tee boxes are in good condition, despite the heavy play and broken tee carcasses. The addition of new berms over the last few years has added to the variety of the landscape and also provides some protection from incoming shots from adjacent fairways. There are several new bunkers with lush sand but many of the old ones require refurbishment. Overall it is a fun and challenging course, even from the white tees at close to 6600 yards.

Played On 12/28/2014Challenging but fair
Played from the whites, at just under 6200 yards, this course has several challenging par fours that require a good tee shot hit to the required landing area and an accurate second shot to a well guarded green. The fairways and tee boxes are in very good condition and the greens are playing better than any other daily fee courses in the area that I have played in the last 2 weeks. The only negative feature that I can cite are the bunkers, while fairly placed, have too much sand, making it very difficult to hit anything more than a short blast out. I discussed this with the pro shop and was told that is something they recognize and will hopefully address in the near future. What I particularly like about this course is that although there is some water on the course, like all Florida courses, it is not the dominant feature dictating the way the hole is to be played.

Played On 9/3/2013Classic design with multiple tee boxes. Plays long for 6400 yards due to bunker complexes that protect the greens.
I expected a 5+ hour round but was pleasantly surprised that we were practically the only ones on the course after a storm threatened morning. Fun, classic layout with little water hazards but well protected greens. Fairway and green side bunkers have consistent sand; greens and tee boxes show typical public course wear and tear but fairways are in great shape. Really enjoyable round, would definitely go back on a day when weather is iffy.
