Ocala National at Golden Hills Country Club
Played On 10/28/2022Sad, just Sad
Too many courses like this in central FL. You can see its prior greatness and appeal but sadly those days are long gone. Conditions are marginal to terrible everywhere. Greens are poorly maintained and slow but at least they are consistent. Tee boxes and bunkers get little to no attention. Saturday afternoon, perfect weather and the bar wasn't even open. Sad, just sad- the people who live on this course clearly don't play it.
Papago Golf Course
Played On 03/17/2022$184 is outrageous
Every course everywhere has to aerify, I get it but GN usually let's you know before you go. Booked this time through the course via GN and the course had no such notification. The greens were in recovery but we're still in discount condition. No such luck! Fairways were cut but bunkers were thin and very pebble heavy. No way on this earth was it worthy of almost 2 hundred dollars. Go play Aguilar instead.
Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club
Played On 03/05/2022Not for 2 and a quarter.
I played on a Saturday at 11:40, waited excessively on the last 5 holes and still finished under 4 hours (in a 4some) which was (unfortunately) the highlight. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and refreshments weren't highway robbery. The course was not worth $225. Anything not in green grass was waaaay dead- out of the rough was totally unkept, greens were good, not great and hard to hold. Only 1 restroom. Just not a premium experience for the premium price. Why is golf in AZ so expensive?
Lake Tansi Resort
Played On 05/21/2021But for the excruciating pace...
Really nice, all-around golf course. Great breakfast (and reasonably priced). Layout features trees more than the namesake lake (only heard boats and never saw them on one hole) Back is a real test. Enjoyed this one a lot. EXCEPT for the 5 hr round.
Amelia National Golf and Country Club
Played On 08/16/2019Happy accident
I had never seen Amelia National listed on golfpass before yesterday and as of this writing can not find another tee time for any future date. So- as it happens I was the beneficiary of a very happy accident at golfpass HQ. This course is pretty fantastic. Fairways are generous with lots of bunker framing and risk/reward options. All of our rain lately has made the rough, well.. rough- try not to hit it there. I played from the blues so there was a lot of slope (but still fair). It's got a good variety of par 3's, both distance and green design. Everything is well maintained and the greens run True. The finishing hole could be dropped right onto any PGA tour course and be right at home. I played on Friday at 11 and only saw 3 other groups all day, I felt like I owned the place. I was sad when it was over. I tried immediately to book it again but alas, nada. I mean nothing going forward. I'm glad this accident happened to me.
St. Johns Golf & Country Club
Played On 10/25/2018Pro style greens
I played SJGCC for the first time today and it was really nice. It's easy to see why they hosted Q-school once you step on to a green, they're as true as bent grass and are very quick right now. Through the green is well maintain as well but the star of the show there are the sand traps. Thankfully I was only in a couple but they were the most consistent sand I've ever played from. Overall a top notch golf course.
Palm Harbor Golf Club
Played On 07/05/2018Pretty nice.
Pretty nice layout. Some extremely tight fairway landing areas and if sand is your thing this course is for you. With the amount of rainfall recently you would expect the green cutting schedule to be a little more aggressive, truly the only disappointing thing about the round were the very slow greens. Pace was great, chicken blt was outstanding, beer was very reasonable. One other thing; put more water coolers on the course, 3 just doesn't get it done. I will play this course again.
Hyde Park Golf Club
Played On 04/24/2018Love to have seen it in its heyday!
Early Donald Ross design with almost all of the green complexes above the level of the fairways. They are still bumpy from recent aerification and are correspondingly long and slow. I made a nice 3 on #6 and would have made up 8 shots on Hogan in '47! If they can continue to improve the greens; the layout, challenge, and the true beauty of Hyde Parks history may bring back its greatness.
Thank you for your feedback and great job on #6! We appreciate your patience with our greens and your understanding of the punching process. Another week and we will be running much smoother and faster! Hopefully you will give us a chance to earn those 4th and 5th stars!
