Continental Country Club
Played On 03/11/2018Very average lower-midrange course.
I gave this course overall average ratings because that's all it is. I must say the greens were in good playable condition and the tee areas were okay however there was no discernable difference between the rough and the fairways. For whatever reason it appears the fairways were not over-seeded for this winter's play. The grass that was there was sparse and the ground was almost hardpan throughout the 18 holes. Made for long rollouts which some people might deem favourable however not the easiest to hit approach to green shots. Probably acceptable conditions for higher handicap players but not for lower handicappers.
Links of Spruce Creek South
Played On 12/29/2015Great value for money
A nice average course with good overall course conditions and great value for money in the $20 to $30 range depending where or how booked. The greens were fast paced but, due to extreme hot Florida weather this fall, the rye overseed did not take 100%. Some greens were sparse in some spots however most were grown in enough (as you would expect) to provide for accurate putting. The pace of play was very good at just under 4 hours due to good organization re: staff beginning in the pro shop, the cart area and the starter. Marshalls were evident on the course. Don't we wish all courses had on course marshalls!
Generous fairways with some ponds and bunkers providing some challenges here and there.
I generally play somewhat more upscale courses but will play this one again if others are not available.
Stonecrest Golf Club
Played On 11/13/2015Good Value For Money
Always look forward to playing this unassuming course. May holes are not straightforward offering above average challenges. Course conditions at this time are overall good however a few greens require some work to get some spots back into a better condition. The staff is pleasant and helpful.
I would recommend this course to all levels of player.
Harbor Hills Country Club
Played On 02/02/2015Good course conditions. Good challenge.
I've played this course many times and am always happy I played it once again. The greens are in great shape, probably 9.5 on the stimp so a playable speed. Not an overly difficult course however it is a good challenge from the blue tees which are roughly 6500 yards. Very scenic amongst very expensive homes but not tight at all.
Developmental tours play here.
Sanctuary Ridge Golf Club
Played On 10/30/2014Nice scenery but........
Greens weren't in good condition and as a result were slow and difficult to putt. This resulted in a less than satisfactory round for us. Otherwise the course and facilities were average with good service.
Deer Island Country Club
Played On 02/21/2014Aesthetics and Design A+
This course pretty much has it all. Beautiful natural surroundings, abundant wildlife and above all a terrific course design or layout. Of course the most significant hazard is the water, which is everywhere but add the traps and your round can quickly become a bad day. For 10-15+ handicappers the slope rating ie. 129 for the white tees at 6218 yards is about right but for those under 10 I think the slope is actually a little high. The greens, which for the most part are in great shape, are cut fast and are undulating. One green in particular has unfortunately become infected with large patches of clover. It may ultimately need to be resurfaced.
All in all a course you should add to your bucket list.
Stone Creek Golf Club
Played On 02/19/20149 out of 10 facility!
I played this top shelf central Florida course for the Hot Deal price of $16.00. How did I get so lucky? I can't find anything detrimental about the course condition. Greens were near perfect and rolling at a 10 on the stimp. Pace of play was good at about 4 hours which is good because it was packed, as usual. Don't miss an opportunity to play this one folks.
Black Bear Golf Club
Played On 02/10/2014Pro shop service??
I have played this course before, more than a year ago, and I considered it to be well groomed, well kept with good service. I was just told it went into new ownership a year ago and I have to say I was disappointed with my latest experience. I booked as a single to be joined by a threesome. Pro shop staff told me to go look for them as they had already booked in. I put my clubs on a cart (no help with this) and drove around but I couldn't find them. Went back to the shop but the guy behind the counter seemed confused or maybe just incompetant as to how to deal with my predicament. Played by myself. No one to greet me when I arrived, lousy service inside the pro shop and no starter to keep things straight at the 1st tee. Not a great experience. Course conditions were only average so overall not the greatest day for me.
Too many other choices out there so I won't go back.
Mission Inn Resort & Club - El Campeon Course
Played On 01/09/2014Well manicured resort course.
I've played this course many times when I can find a 'HotDeal' on Golfnow, otherwise it's usually more than I care to pay being a resort. All aspects of the course are above average and it is a good challenge with hills, ponds and large bunkers with good sand. Greens are fast but not too fast and they are always in great condition. The pro shop is well stocked with a friendly, helpful staff.
Candler Hills Golf Club
Played On 01/06/20149 out of 10 course.
This course deserves to be in the top 10 of central Florida courses. A true 9 out of 10 track in every way including large, fast and slopy greens in excellent condition. Traps are located very strategically, they are well maintained and the sand is just right. They make up for the lack of water hazards. Fairways are well groomed as are the multiple 'flat' tee decks in front of each hole. The pro shop is well stocked and employees helpful and friendly. A terrific value for the money.
Water Oak Golf Club
Played On 12/30/2013League facility.
I wouldn't recommend this course for the following reasons. It is primarily a facility geared to the residents of Water Oak Estates with men's leagues, lady's leagues and mixed leagues resulting in very slow 5 hour play. The course condition is poor to average at best with postage stamp greens, sub-standard sand in the traps, narrow tree-lined fairways, up and down steep hills and some ponds to contend with. It is a short course in the mid-5000 range from the tips. It is also comparatively priced to nearby championship courses ie. way overpriced for what you get.
Eagle Ridge Golf Club - Champions Course
Played On 12/17/2013One of the better affordable golf facilities.
There are 4 nine hole courses at this facility and they are all very well groomed tee to green. The greens, which are about 9 on the stimp, are in great condition and roll straight to the cup. On average most holes aren't overly challenging but there are enough hazards to keep you thinking. Nice scenery with some rolling terrain to top it all off.
Ocala National at Golden Hills Country Club
Played On 12/9/2013Good value for the money.
Front nine is easier than the back. More hazards ie traps on the back. Slope of 130 from the gold tees is about right. Nice aesthetics. Well treed but not that playable and somewhat hilly but not overly. Grass everywhere is in great shape, including the greens which rolled about a ten. Would play again.
RedTail Golf Club
Played On 3/28/2013Hazards in all the right places.
The greens are a little late changing from rye to bermuda, likely because of the cool/wet winter, so they are still in great shape and quick but not ridiculous. Hazards are everywhere so plan your shots. An aesthetically beautiful course with marshy areas near many fairways and greens.
The Country Club of Mount Dora
Played On 3/18/2013Great value for the money.
A slightly tight course in places, not to housing but to hazards, however I would not call it 'target golf'. The greens are transitioning back to bermuda at this time but are still in great shape and they are fast. A nice challenge for sub-10 handicappers.
Country Club of Silver Springs Shores
Played On 2/1/2013Excellent playing conditions. Course in terrific shape.
I have played this course many times but this round was the first this year and what a pleasant surprise because of the playing conditions. It has always been a course I would go back to but this January all playing areas are in terrific condition. The greens couldn't be much better, if at all, the fairway grass is very good and the tee boxes are flat with good grass. It's not a course that blows you away visually (it appears average) but it is quite aesthetically pleasing with many water hazards that must be flown, traps and waste areas that must be avoided to score and most greens are cupped, mounded or sloped so that two putting is a bonus.
The clubhouse is large with all amenities and a well stocked pro shop is manned by pleasant employees. After my round I went back in to compliment them on the course conditions.
A great value for the money, which certainly doesn't break the bank.
Juliette Falls
Played On 1/30/2013A 5 Star layout with large undulating greens and wide fairways with no housing present.
Course is in excellent playing condition with good grass on fairways and greens in excellent condition. Tee boxes are flat with good grass. A very aesthetically pleasing course with waterfall features on two holes. Very well maintained. It could provide a few more ball washers but this is something that more and more (even good) courses seem to be lacking these days. Overall a great value for the money, whatever the deal you get on GolfNow.
Pine Barrens at World Woods Golf Club
Played On 1/7/2013A premium course well worth the drive. Not one house anywhere on the property.
No water but bunkers and waste areas everywhere just waiting for your shots. Greens very well protected in the fazio way. Difficult rolling greens are in great shape.....2 putts are a bonus. Fazio did a terrific job with the terrain and plentiful pine trees.
The Plantation Golf Club - Cranes Roost Course
Played On 12/31/2012Regardless of the greens I would recommend this course as very good value for the money.
Course in generally good condition with the exception of at least half the greens each of which had several areas of undergrown, very thin grass. Aesthetics are nice with marshy areas and some fairways, that do wind through housing, are wide enough so that lawns/yards aren't a factor. A better than average test even for a sub-ten handicapper.
