My husband and I played here several times on our last trip to Phoenix and really looked forward to returning on our recent trip. We weren't disappointed!
We played twice during this visit, and enjoyed both rounds. The course is in great shape and the greens are crazy fast -- which is fun, but can cost you a lot of extra strokes around the green, and it's hard to make a chip stick.
It's really important to play the proper tees as the course is very challenging. Definitely not a course I'd recommend to beginners, or anyone who can't hit a fairly straight shot.
My only complaint would be that during our second round there, the marshall came by after 6 holes and told us to pick up the pace. Okay, the people we were playing with were getting into a bit of trouble, sure, but there was no one waiting behind. Then, on the next hole, he came back and told us that he had moved a twosome (members) onto the hole ahead of us. Seriously, of course a twosome, and members to boot, will play faster than a foursome who are less familiar with the course. The annoying thing was that none of us in our foursome had even seen the twosome waiting. At all. We noticed that after several holes, we were now following another foursome., so clearly the two members were just playing through everyone.
We kept pace with the group ahead, as did the group behind and we played in a totally reasonable 4.25 hours.
Love the course (though the whole marshall/member thing left a bit of a bad taste in our mouths). It's a little out of the way, depending on where you're staying, but well worth the drive.

This is a fun course to play. There are some nice views, and while not quite as scenic as Sedona Golf Resort, it was a pleasure to play. After playing Sedona and some other really spectacular courses in the Phoenix area, my husband and I were initially disappointed by the parkland style. After a couple of holes, though, we really started to enjoy it. The course has some challenging holes (water, narrow fairways, etc), but was also quite forgiving. There are a number of fairly short par 4s that can help you redeem yourself if you've gotten into trouble elsewhere!
We were sent out as a twosome (sandwiched between two foursomes), so we had some waits here and there, but all things considered, the pace of play was pretty good. If we had been a foursome, it would have been perfect.
Overall, a very pleasant experience. The staff were super friendly and the course was in great shape!

Starfire Golf Club - The King Course
Played On 04/18/2015REALLY slow!
This was the first course we played on our trip. We were looking for a mid-level course/price. The course itself is only okay, and for the $50 green fee, you're better off elsewhere. To make it worse, it was a 6 hour round. The twosome that we were paired with had to cut out early to make their dinner plans.
