Pace of play

I have played this course many times over the years. This time I played at 10:30 in the morning. That may have had something to do with this but there was great presence on the course of marshals who were clearly monitoring the pace of play and moving people along. That’s the one complaint I’ve had about this place for years. I’ve actually left twice in the past because the round went on too long and it was just absurd. At those times, the pace of play was 5 1/2 to 6 hours. I’m not making that up. Congratulations to the ownership for paying attention to this important detail and making some serious progress. I hope it continues. It’s a good layout, reasonably well-maintained, and a good value option.

It’s over with

I played this course quite a number of times. I’m not sure who the ownership is but the idea of not having water coolers and no water on the golf course is to put it mildly absurd. They don’t have ball washers, or water coolers for drinking water. All in the name of Covid. Give me a break. I saw a dude on the driving range wearing a face mask. I guess some people feel good about their virtue signaling. Or they’re just intimidated and sheep.

Horrible

Worst managed course in Atlanta. Pace of play is abysmal. No one cares. You call the pro shop, ask for a Marshall, no one shows up. Took us an hour 40 minutes to play five holes. Gave up after nine. Not coming back.

Horrible course management

I played here on 6 June. It was a slow play nightmare. Despite the fact that there were multiple golf staff and marshals managing the course at the front end, they were too busy visiting with one another to go out to the course and manage the slow play. For example, the group in front of us was for novice golfers in their 20s, playing from the back tees and they couldn’t even hit the ball to the fairway in some cases. They were constant gaps of a half a hole to a hole and we only saw one Marshall the entire round. We finally quit after 13 holes because we were on a 5 1/2 hour plus pace. Despite the fact that there are signs everywhere saying 4 1/2 hours is the maximum round time acceptable. This course has a problem with their personnel who are way too comfortable and don’t manage the course properly. It’s a decent layout, with some challenging holes and from the back tees is a good golf course. I’ve played here many times but it’s going to be a long time before I come back on a weekend. It was just ridiculous.

Early Coore Crenshaw design easily the best course on Oconee

This is one of Coore/Crenshaw's first efforts as a team and an outstanding track. Built on a former pine tree nursery, the routing and aesthetics are both amazing. The course has softened in recent years - removal of some pine trees and cutting native grass areas.
From my perspective those were not positives. Still the course retains its challenge and enjoyment. Plays much harder than its slope and the switch to Champions Bermuda on the greens several years ago was a huge plus. Unfortunately, the management of the course and project have made a lot of questionable decisions about the amenities and infrastructure in recent years, including inexplicably tearing down a wonderful clubhouse building and grill.

Waterlogged and punched greens

There should’ve been a notification from the course and or golf now that the greens had been punched. On top of that, the course was completely waterlogged. Just unplayable both on the fairways and on the greens. Yet we were paying a full greens fee. After nine holes, we quit went into the pro shop and they gave us a refund for a part of our round. Golf now, you need to get it together.

Slow play abounds

This course is a good track. It’s a good layout with some nice holes in some challenges. Overall, worth the of playing. However, you have so many people that are out there playing but have no idea about how to play golf or anything to do with pace of play. And the course management does absolutely nothing about it. It just happens, you put up with it and it is a miserable experience. It took us almost 5 hours to play golf today. Uncalled for. Not a single ranger or staff assistant ever appear in the tire five hours. This course is a good track. It’s a good layout with some nice holes in some challenges. Overall, worthy of playing. Hello, Jeff. Thank you for reviewing the course. We apologize for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We work hard to accommodate everyone who visits our course to allow our guest the chance to play there rounds. We work hard to control pace and allow everyone to finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve. We are glad to see you enjoyed the challenge, great course conditions, and layout during your game. Thank you for playing Cobblestone Golf Club, we hope to see you again soon.

Poorly managed pace of play. Not coming back. Staff is rude and indifferent.

We had an 11:16 AM tee time. We were 15 minutes late going off. We finished the first hole and there were two groups on the second tee. We waited on every tee from that point for at least 5 to 7 minutes. We saw rangers with the title of "Ambassador" a number of times. They were doing absolutely nothing to speed up play. This is a public course with a lot of bad players who are out for beers and have no idea what golf is all about. Not raking bunkers, not playing ready golf, disobeying signs. The sad fact is that the 'ambassadors', who appear to be a bunch of retired guys getting free golf out of their job, could care less. Finally after twelve holes we were four hours and 5 minutes into our round and we went in. A visit to the pro shop elicited a response of shrugged shoulders, 'we do the best we can' and no offer for any kind of rain check, free beverage or coupon towards future golf. Just basically, we could care less. Indifferent. The girl behind the counter at the turn goofed up our order and then got super snippy when we politely told her, no we did not order four Blue Moons and four Ultras, just one each. This is the second time playing this course in the past 6 months and the only way I am coming back is if someone else is paying for it. Pathetic excuse for a golf experience.

Good wintertime golf

I had heard a lot about this course and finally got the chance to play it. The Golf Now pricing was a key factor in my coming there, as I am not one to play $100 per round, at least not in a week when I am playing 2-3 times.

The layout was interesting, typical Florida with some tweaks. The greens were in good shape with 2-3 exceptions where there was absolutely no grass in a certain area of the green. They had just lost the greens in those areas. If you were paying full price, this would be a red flag for me. The rest of the course was in fine shape.

All in all, if you can get the discounted rate, I recommend it.
