The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie - The Woodlands
Played On 08/23/2020First time in a looong time
First time playing here in about 17years, back when it was Meriwood (and Vicwood). Couldn't really remember the course prior to arriving.
Upon arrival, everything is at the Links clubhouse. We went to the Woodlands (Meriwood) and it wasn't open. No issues there, makes sense. Driving range at the Woodlands ok, but nice being right by a practice green and fairly close to 1st tee.
The nines are switched and most likely have been for years. And there are now homes all around the course, which is mainly why i couldn't remember much, and my golf memory is really good especially when it comes to lay-up areas, green slopes, positions, etc.
Tees were ok, somewhat sparse. Fairways i thought were good. There were some holes on the back nine that looked like they hadn't been mowed in easily 4-5 days which was odd. Bunkers were spot on compared to some of the prior reviews. fairly unkempt with weeds growing, but thankfully i didn't have to play out of any. I was concerned about greens based on a prior review, but was pleasantly surprised. I thought the condition and speeds were excellent. i bet they rolled around 9.0-9.5 with some a bit quicker as the day progressed since we teed off at 6:30am.
There were a few holes that i'd like to play again, not really knowing (remembering) where to lay -up, and that was even with a rangefinder. should have taken the time to drive up and check it out but there was a group playing somewhat quickly behind us, even though we were cruising along. But you can't knock this against the course and this rating.
I pulled on old old Meriwood scorecard out of my collection and recalled some of the holes after the round. With all the homes now around, i remembered #2 (used to be #11) and #13 (which used to be #4...waterfall hole). It felt more open, in my opinion, when there were trees. For some reason houses make it look tighter, when in reality there is probably more room now if you need it off the fairways.
this has to be a tough walking course, because there were many lengthy drives from green to next tee, but we saw plenty of walkers out there.
All in all good course, and will definitely be back.
Lake Wilderness Golf Course
Played On 08/02/2014Easy to walk
Very underrated Seattle course. Played at 615am and spun a 3hr round, walking. Greens in excellent condition (i'm very picky about greens) and the pro said they were rolling around 11. Fairways are good; tee boxes need some grass in spots. Not a very long course but a fun course for all golf ability.
Apple Tree Golf Course
Played On 08/01/2014Good course but very wet
Fun course ,and have played it numerous times. A lot different than when it opened and no homes built on the course. Very lush and green. Tees and fairwarys very good; greens a bit on the slower side. Course is very very wet, creating a LOT of humidity.
