Fun, very playable course.

Once my ego allowed me to play the blue tees, I'm really enjoying this course more. Some great short par 4's, very playable par 3's and challenging par 5's. If you can keep ball in the fairways, you will avoid most of the trouble and dirt areas. Greens in good shape. A fun course, not long (but not an executive course) and you can score on. Very reasonable green fees.

Not worth your time.

Although course layout is links style and could be good, don't waste your time or money. Worst fairway conditions I've ever experienced at any course played. Hardly any grass, mostly dirt with a few patches of grass. Only positive were the greens.
Checking in at 9 AM on a Saturday and being told it was "pretty quiet" out there should have been my first clue! I guess bad news travels fast within the golf community.

On Its Way Back.

Found out course just reopened 2 weeks ago after being closed for months and quite run down. All that considered, course in pretty good shape. Fairways a bit spotty and bare in spots;. could be due to recovery from the winter as well as recovering from being closed. Greens in very good condition, rolling true and good speed.
Very challenging and tricky layout, but it was expected of a Mike Strantz designed course. Lots of elevation change and blind shots. Hats off to Mathieu Lecompte, Green Superintendent for a fantastic job getting this course back in shape, as well as being very helpful opening the pro shop and getting carts out in order to start the round when no one showed up to open the pro shop for my 8 AM tee time.
This course should be supported in order to get it up and running once again.

Good bones but poorly maintained.

Layout was good and POP excellent - 3 1/2 hours on a Sunday morning. Maintenance sorely lacking. Greens were recently punched and sanded = very slow;. Hard to find grass on tee boxes;. Spotty conditions in the fairways and rough. Just showing a lack of attention to care of the course.

Thank you for playing with us. Greens were aerified a week ago, and are slowly healing due to the frosts last week. Fairways and roughs have not begun to grow yet, due to the weather. We are making improvements daily to the course, so I would encourage you to give us another try soon!

Conditions Are Improving

I have avoided playing here for the last few months as the condition of the course had gotten pretty bad: plus two holes had been shortened in length. Happy to say course is back to its original par 72 layout and conditions have improved somewhat. Fairways are still devoid of grass in many areas; greens are good; rough is also bare in spots.
Biggest negative - I booked a 6:32 am tee time and no one showed up in the pro shop until a bit "after" 7:00! Hope to see more improvement in the future as layout is fun & challenging.

Varied terrain and nice conditions.

Better than expected for a busy course. Nice rolling hills;. Keep it in the short grass as the rough was fairly thick and ball sits down. Nice par 3s and holes have some character. You can see staff working to improve conditions on the course. Very playable as well as interesting layout.

Beautiful, scenic course.

Beautiful course with rolling hills and no two holes the same. Need to keep ball in the fairways as rough was thick and sometimes difficult to find your ball. Greens in great shape and rolling true. Lots of trees lining many holes; very little bare spots, even in the rough. Course maintained very well. A challenging but fair golf course.

Good, straight forward course.

fairly straightforward golf course; flat but in good shape. fairways wide and greens pretty flat w/minimum undulations. have played a number of courses in so. cal. recently that were in far worse shape. fairways have plenty of grass; rough not very thick. plenty of maintenance staff out in the morning and it's obvious they are taking good care of course.
definitely worth the money.

Great Conditions.

Played with a threesome of novice golfers as the first group off on a Sunday morning. Even though they were not good players, they were not slow and we finished in 3 hours.
Course in beautiful shape; fairways green and plush; ball sits up nicely. No dead or brown areas. Greens in great shape also, although they rolled a little slow. Starter was very friendly and got us out a little early. Overall conditions were excellent. Course very playable, but challenging as well with water on several holes coming into play. Definitely worth playing.

Worth the Drive.

Course overall in good shape. Greens were a bit slow but rolled true. Fairways also in nice condition; plenty of grass with some bare spots. Layout always fun to play, with some shorter par 4s sprinkled amongst more challenging holes, along with elevation changes and minimum h2o hazards. POP less than 3 hours teeing off early morning as a single. Definitely worth the drive.

Hope This Course Survives

Course conditions have deteriorated over past few months. Lots of brown areas and overgrown weeds. 2 holes have been changed; one from a par 4 to 5, the other from a 5 to 3. Not sure why the change or whether it's only temporary. First available tee time is 7:10 even though it's light out by 6 am. Pro shop pretty basic and lacking products. Just doesn't look like course will survive.

Almost NO public course in California will be around in 10 years if they cannot charge over $40 a round and get at least 150 week day tee times and over 300 week end tee times at $45 or more....and that will only happen when the number of courses is so low you have to pay the price to play.....by 2030 public golf will be a very rare activity....

Course Improving

Had not played course in about 6 months due to poor conditions. Decided for $20. I'd give it a try again. Very glad I did. Obviously Billy Casper Golf is making positive improvements to course - fairways are filling in with grass; greens, although recently punched & sanded, were rolling fairly true and good speed. Overall look & feel shows marked improvement. Hopefully it will continue to improve as layout is fun and challenging.

Teach the Starter to Have Common Sense!

Golf course itself was enjoyable - very nice tree lined course with a variety of holes. Greens rolled well although some were recently punched (small tines). Problem however started before teeing off. A twosome came into proshop without a tee time and was given a time before my 7:08 time. When I went out to Starter I was told to pair up with another single - fine so far. He was also instructing a group of women on how to operate golf boards and they obviously were having some difficulty. This 4some had the tee time before me so I asked if we - 2some - could tee off before the 4some of women. Oh no, the tee sheet had them going before us. So for the entire front 9 we followed the 4some. A few times we were on the same tee waiting for the 4some to tee off and they were oblivious to us. Thankfully they did let us play thru on the back 9. A frustrating round of golf could have been avoided by a starter with a little common sense.

Worthwhile experience.

great rate due to punched & sanded greens. greens rolled fairly quick and true even with the current conditions. course has held up well considering the heavy rains recently in So. Cal. Fairways in great shape; no really bare areas encountered. course is maturing well since the redesign in the past year or so. still a challenging layout that makes you think twice before hitting driver on every hole; definitely you'll use every club in your bag.

Avoid the Swamp!

Worst conditions I've experienced at any course played. Standing water all over the course; hard to find a dry lie. Walking from cart paths to ball an adventure; water almost up to ankles in "many" places. Golf course should be closed until the drainage is solved. I will not return for a very long time. Spend your money more wisely elsewhere.

Nothing good about a 6 hr. round.

It's disgraceful that a golf course allows numerous 5 -somes out on the weekend. On one par 3, there was one group on the green while 3 groups waited on the tee. I left the course after playing for 5 hours and still had 3 holes to go. Not my idea of enjoyable golf.
Course very wet from recent rains, with puddles and soft spots everywhere. greens in decent condition. will never play here again if ever in the area. to add insult to injury - all this for $60.!

Save Your Money.

Course has seen better days. Despite the great views of the mountains as backdrop for many of the holes, course maintenance and upkeep is lacking. Lots of bare spots throughout, dirt areas, etal. Only positive were the greens; rolled true albeit a bit slow. With so many nicer courses in the area, don't spend your money here.

Very playable course a short drive from Tacoma.

Played as a single in under 3 hours on a Monday morning. Doesn't get much better than that. Very playable course with not much trouble off the tee. Plays through a housing development but houses are well out of play. Some rough spots in the rough but overall conditions are good. Greens rolling true and not overly fast. Hole 18 can be a challenge with a large tree in the middle of the fairway and it plays uphill all the way to the green. A very good finishing hole.

Challenging but fair test of golf.

Course in great shape; fairways plush with no noticeable bare or dead spots; greens rolling true. Need to keep your ball in play as some fairways are narrow with wetlands gobbling up errant shots. Beautiful scenery throughout. Definitely a course you want to play more than once.

Immaculate course conditions.

Challenging but fair golf course. If you drive the ball fairly straight, you can score well. Fairways are plush and the ball sits up. Greens were a bit slow and all putts roll towards the valley. One warning - stay out of the desert. Cactus can cause some really painful stings. Just a treat to play this course.
