Now I know what the pros feel like

This is a tough course, designed in a way to be really punishing in the last 4 finishing holes as you can get really strong headwinds on holes with lots of water, with greens that are not very forgiving. The greens are deceivingly tricky, they roll pretty fast and are hard to read the breaks. I was in a scramble, and we could not drain most of our putts to save our lives. I would love to come back and play this course on my own and I expect it will eat my lunch. The price point to play is a little high though considering you could play at much much nicer and prettier courses in the area, like North Palm Beach and Sand Hill Crane. However, if you want to get a taste of what the pro's have to deal with, give the Champions a try.

Gorgeous and Pristine

Red Hawk is a gorgeous golf course nestled in the foothills of the Rockies in the town of Castle Rock. The course is spectacular with gorgeous holes that are unique in every way. Being a Florida golfer, this course was an absolute delight and a change of pace from the flat, difficult and tight courses of Florida, and playing at elevation makes the ball fly much much further than what I'm used to. We had a group of 20 guys and the course was very accommodating, so my hat's off to the staff. From tee to green the course is pristine. Some tee boxes were a little chewed up, but that's normal for a public course that probably gets lots of traffic. The greens were a delight and rolled very true. I have nothing negative to say about Red Hawk Ridge, if I'm ever back in Colorado, I'll definitely want to play here again.

So nice!

I've only been to a few country members only country clubs. This one ranks way up. It's so nice through and through. The South course was a delight. Although it's index and elevation is not as high as the North course, it played pretty difficult. The greens are a thing of dreams, they roll so true and are in perfect condition. Although not a Dye design, this course has a little bit of a Pete Dye influence with strategically placed bunkers that seemed hidden from plain sight. A couple of the par 3s are grueling with average 200 yards distances from the 2nd tees. The layout of this course is unique hole by hole. I can why members wouldn't get bored playing it over and over. I really enjoyed the course although my game was not up to par for the course. If I ever get a chance to play here again, I'll jump at the opportunity.

Great track!

At the time I made this review, golfadvisor gave this course 2.4 stars, which is pretty mind boggling because this IMHO this is a 5-star course. The resort and facilities are going through major upgrades, but it doesn't take away from my round or how good of a shape the Palmer course was in. I used the SFPGA golf pass deal which is $55 for a round. The driving range is pretty nice, you could only hit from the mats, but the mats are pretty nice and fluffy. The course was in excellent shape, and although it is surrounded by housing, it has more of a resort style feel than the Fazio course. Also, Palmer has a nicer design over the Fazio, and it's quite challenging, no matter what tees you play from. Follow the hole-by-hole tips on the website, I felt they helped me tremendously, so much to the point that I was able to break 90. I was surprised how green and lush the course was despite the lack of rain we've gotten this summer. The greens although they weren't super fast, rolled pretty good. The back nine, especially the finishing holes seemed to play a lot harder than the rest, which forces you to stay focused all the way to the end. The 18th hole is gruesome and pretty, very worthy of a finishing hole. I rank the Palmer over the Fazio. Next, I'll try the Estates and Champion courses and come up with my final ranking.

Deceivingly challenging

This course just like the Dye course was in absolutely superb condition. Although, I would give Dye a higher ranking when it comes to the conditions and the design, this course ranks really high among Fazio courses. I haven't played Wanamaker yet, but I would rank Dye first, then Ryder second. Some players like this course over Dye as Dye seems a little more punishing with its strategically placed bunkers and difficult green complexes. Ryder has more receptive greens, but Ryder on the other hand has more water and it really punished me, as I lost quite a few balls in the water. Next, I'll try Wanamaker and see how it ranks compared to Dye and Ryder.

Not bad at all

The previews reviews on golfadvisor made it seem like this course was atrocious, but it is definitely not the case. Yes it does have a feel of a typical residential Florida course especially in the front 9, but it is not as narrow and it doesn't have as many doglegs as other residential courses. I liked the back 9 a little more as it seemed to be more wide open; more like a resort style course with nice features and mature trees in some of the holes. The one negative was that the greens were punched so most of the putts didn't hold the line or hold the right speed, making it for a pretty frustrating round. I can't wait to try out the other course to see how they compare to Fazio.

Pig rooting is out of control

I play this course weekly. Over the past few months the areas around the fairways have been destroyed by pig rooting, so if your ball lands on pit root, we take relief to a playable spot. However, last time I played, the infestation of wild pigs and their rooting has now taken over the fairways and slow but surely the entire course is getting destroyed, and the staff hasn't seemed to take any action. This course went from being my favorite course in the Palm Beach county area to just an ok course, and it's all because of the wild pigs. Either eradicate the pig problem, or kiss the golf course goodbye.

PBC public golf courses best!

If you join the PBC frequent player membership, you get 4 options for golf (Okeeheelee, Park Ridge, Southwinds and Osprey Point). I'll have to say that Osprey Point is the best of the four options. IMHO it is the flagship course. This was my first time playing at Osprey Point. I got a chance to play the Hawk/Raven combination. It was a humbling experience. My first nine at the Hawk I was playing lights out, only shooting 3 over par, then the back nine at Raven brought me back down to reality and ate my lunch. Raven is a lot tougher, with a stretch of 4 holes that are very tight, that if you don't want to take your medicine and play for bogey golf, they will make you pay and I sure did. Overall, the golf complex and golf courses are very pretty, super well manicured and in excellent shape. The course gets a lot of traffic as you can see from the ball mark repairs on the greens, which oh by the way, people need to be given lessons on how to repair ball marks. Nonetheless, the course is perfect tee to green. It's a 5-star course at a great price. Good luck getting a decent tee time in the morning as it is very coveted. I was told Falcon was not open because it's getting aerated. I loved the fact that they can aerate one of the nines while the other two nines are unaffected and open for play. I can't wait to return and take on the Raven challenge again and try out Falcon for the first time.

6 out of 5 stars!

First of all, I can't believe golfadvisor is giving this course 2.4 stars. Either the previous reviewers went to a totally different course from what I experienced or the golfadvisor website is buggy. All to say that don't trust the 2.4 rating, this course is easily 5 out of 5 stars, and if I could I would give it 6 stars. Absolutely everything about this course was perfect. This has been the best golf course I've played at in South Florida, ranking up there with Trump Doral's facilities. The tee boxes were so flat, plush, green and spacious, they looked almost fake. I actually made it a point not to take divots off the tee box, because they were so nice, I didn't want to ruin them. The course is a beautiful classic Pete Dye creation, with bunkering, mounds and hazards laid out perfectly all throughout to make sure you stay concentrated all throughout the entire round. Even the holes which seem to play easy will punish you if you let your foot off the gas. Distance and accuracy are a must all throughout the 18 holes. I found the how to play the hole by hole tips on the course website to be extremely helpful, without them I would have probably had a much worse score. The fairways are absolutely perfect, nice and flush, with zero blemishes. The greens are world class, rolled very true, with tons of undulations, multi tiers, table tops, and shaped in a way that force you to play strategically and demand you to have accuracy. The practice facilities from the driving range to the putting greens to the chipping areas are a golfer's dream. Balls are complementary at the driving range and chipping area, and they're premium chromesoft balls. Lastly, take time to enjoy the atrium by the pro shop, where you'll find the trophies from all the major championships, among other cool trophies and famous golf displays, it's pretty breath taking.

Top three in palm beach county

I've had the chance of playing quite a bunch of courses in Palm Beach County. IMHO out of the accessible courses there are in PBC, this is the top three, with North Palm Beach and Sand Hill Crane taking the top two spots. I absolutely loved that this course is not in a residential complex with housing surrounding the fairways, making it a pretty open course. Great for amateurs like me who can't be straight on every tee shot. I was super impressed at the practice facility, especially the driving range, which was worthy of a country club or high end resort course. The golf carts were super nice, with plushy bucket seats and great GPS displays on it, that would show you the distance to the pin. This again is what you would find at a fancy resort course. This course has a great amount of undulation, very atypical of a Florida course, so what a sight to see. Get ready to play approach shots from all sorts of different lies. The thing that kicked my butt were the greens, holy smokes do they roll true and fast, and boy were they tough to read due to the good amount of undulation. The trick is to keep it pin high. Maybe the best greens I've played on. I can't wait to come back and play over and over, and get more knowledge on how to play the course.

Only a few days left to enjoy this gem!

What a beautiful course. Very pretty and challenging. This course will make you use every club in your bag and will make you shot shape all throughout. I was informed at the pro shop that the club will close for renovations in July until end of the year, at which point it will become a members only club, so if you haven't had the chance of playing it, go and try it. They don't let you walk this course as some of the holes are pretty far from each other. On to the review: overall this is definitely a 5-star course and worthy of becoming a members only club. It is pristine from tee to green and very pretty all throughout. The greens are challenging, with good amounts of undulation and they roll pretty true. The sand in the bunkers is super soft, you if hit the sand way before the ball, the ball won't come out. The course itself plays pretty tight, it is my only negative as I'm not a very straight golfer, but this is pretty typical of golf courses in Florida in residential complexes. One thing that surprised me is that this course has a decent amount of elevation for Florida, which is pretty nice. I would love to play here again, but seeing that it's going to go full private, I doubt I'll have the chance. Though I had a pretty bad round, I enjoyed every moment as if it was my last time playing here, because it probably was.

No walking allowed - seriously?

I haven't had a bad experience like today's in a while. I asked the guy at the pro shop if I could walk and he said absolutely not. Seriously? This course is super super short. The guy said if they allowed walking how are they gonna make any money. Seriously? That's the reason why? Just charge $10 less for walking and I bet you could still make money. The pro shop guy then became a sarcastic jerk to after this point. I'm pretty much never coming back here. What a horrible experience. On to the golf course, it does play short but it's challenging because it's pretty narrow with water or really tight fairways. A lot of the holes have houses lined up pretty much against the fairway, so if you can't hit it through a tunnel, good luck. Nonetheless the course was in good shape, lush and green. The greens were a bit slow and fluffy probably because of all the rain. If it wasn't for the jerk at the pro shop and the fact that they don't allow walking, I would come back. Lastly, I think they charge way too much, $60 it's not worth this money. You can play much nicer courses for less than this.

Still in good condition

I played this course about two years ago and was very impressed by it, giving it a 5 star. This last time I was a little less impressed only because the greens rolled a bit weird, seemed to have been punched recently and some of the tee boxes were pretty beat up, probably due to all the play they get. If I could I would give this course 4.5 stars. It is still pretty impressive, the layout is awesome, requires all your clubs in the bag, calls for lots of shot shaping. It's in great condition especially with how much play it gets. What I was most impressed with is that this course seemed to be the only one open in the area when all other courses were closed due to heavy rains the day before, which means this was a well designed course that drains really well.

5 out of 5 stars

I have absolutely no complaints about this club. Everything was perfect. From the staff, to the facilities, to the golf experience, to the feel of an unassuming yet fancy country club. I was privileged to have a buddy invite me as a guest and it felt like a true exclusive yet made you feel at home type of experience. The clubhouse was super nice and the staff was friendly, the Turtle swag looked pretty cool. The practice facilities were of a true members only fancy country club. The driving range with unlimited complementary Pro V1 practice balls and different colored flags to help you dial in your clubs and absolutely pristine grass to hit off from. The practice green was immaculate. Now on to the course. We played from the Blue/White combo, and it was perfect length. One thing that I've noticed of fancy private courses or resort courses is that the course index and elevation seem a little low for how difficult these courses could be, compared to munis. Everything about the course was perfect, the tees perfectly trimmed (loved the turtle tee markers) and nice and flat, the fairways with no blemish, the bunkers were perfect, and the highlight were the greens which rolled so true. If I was in the hunt for a private club membership, Turtle would be at the top of my list, it's no wonder why there's a double wait list to get in. Crossing my fingers I get invited again.

Tees are getting worked on

When I played here 2 weeks ago, 4 of the 18 tees were getting worked on so they make you play from makeshift tees that make the holes way shorter. I wish the course website or booking through GolfNow would give you a warning that the course is undergoing tee maintenance, knowing so, I would have picked a different course. Pro tip, before playing here call to make sure the course is not going through major maintenance.

Make sure to pick the right tee

So I went on a buddies golf trip and we all played from the 7th tee. However, I had a pretty miserable time because my 2nd shots after teeing off where way too long to reach the green. Also, although the course doesn't seem overly long at over 6600 from the tips, it plays longer than that due to the elevation changes and the wind factor. The par 3's are also really far from the tips. I really love the idea at the practice facility where it tells you that whatever number you can reach with the driver should be the tee you're using. Knowing that I should have played from the 5's or 6's. I will return to this course and will definitely follow the practice facility suggestion. Given that this is a course with 7 tee options, I would love to bring my wife and kid to golf with me and make it a true family experience. I loved that the putting green has a nine hole challenge, sort of like a putt putt fun experience. The course is very scenic, lots of uphill and downhill shots, lots of shot shaping holes requiring you to draw and fade shots. The back nine plays extra long, and it's flatter more linksy style than the front nine. The front nine kind of plays like a mountainous course.

Most magical experience ever!

Pinehurst has to be one of the most if not the most magical golf experiences in the US, if not the world. I feel privileged and blessed to have played in the original and first course ever built at Pinehurst, and boy it did not disappoint. From the moment you drop off your golf bag to the moment you finish the round, it feels like you're in a beautiful dream you never want to wake up from. To top it all off, I played one of my best rounds ever, which made the experience even more delightful. Everything about the course was absolutely perfect, as if created by God, and pictures or video don't do it justice, it is a place you have to be there in person to experience its true beauty. The OG Pinehurst #1 is perfect for guys like me who are not very long hitters. Play it from the tips! Every aspect of the course is perfect and pristine. The greens are absolutely perfect. I've never been on greens where putts have rolled so true.

Tough track, lots of elevation changes

This is a tough track. A lot of elevation changes, in some holes you fill like you're playing in a mountain course in the Rockies. The course will challenge you if you're not hitting long and straight shots of the tee. The course is very pretty and in excellent shape. There are quite a few carries, especially on the back nine. The water holes are super beautiful. My only recommendation is that if you're thinking of playing here, make sure your game is on point otherwise, it'll be a miserable round. The only negative is that the driving range is atrocious; it seemed like it was an after thought. I do want to play this course again but I want to make sure my game is on point before I do.

Prettiest course I've played in years

This is a true gem. This has to be one of Georgia's top 5 courses and it's accessible to the public. Tucked in Saint Simon's island, this course has some of the most beautiful holes you'll ever see in your life. Especially when you get to the marshlands. The course is in pristine condition. Tip my hat off to the course superintendent and the greens keepers. It's a tough challenge but it's also fair. Totally worth the $100.

The most unique Florida course

This course was built on top of a land fill, and I'm quite amazed at how well the space was used, especially how the golf designer took advantage of the elevation changes. As you immerse yourself in the course, you get a feel that you're not in Florida, it feels like you're playing a mountain course. Every hole is quite unique, lots of uphill and downhill shots, so make sure to bring your GPS finder. There are a few blind shots as well. I played on a very windy day, and it was a tough challenge, given that the wind really picked up due to the hills. The greens are in great shape, the fairways and tee boxes were in decent shape. The course was quite green, which is nice. I hear they're going to make renovations which will make the course even nicer. The price was right, at $21 walking rate for patrons. I can't wait to come back and play over and over again. Solid 4 stars, and with more TLC, it could be a 5 star course.
