No warming up & bad ruff

The course staff was friendly and the greens and fairways were in good shape. But there is no driving range, so you get no chance to warm up, which matter a lot to me, as I am recovering from an injury and need very much to warm up before I play. The fairways were decent, not terrific but playable. But if you got off the fairways by more than a couple of feet the ground was in bad shape. While some may say "well just stay on the fairway", I think most average golfer must be able to make a few shots a round from the rough. In this case the gravel, sand, and tree roots, but not much grass made it difficult to do that. So from the fairways every time and the greens, IT's a good course and great value, but since mere mortals every often must hit from the rough, it loses a few points in rating.

Good course that needs a little TLC.

The course needs a little TLC. Greens had lots of poa ana pods sticking up making them bumpy. The traps were hard as rock and need to be shoveled/raked. Some of the fairway bunkers were walked in with footprints left behind and not raked (sometimes due to a missing rake). I realize COVID made us all panicked and shut in, probably dropping business and funding for golf courses, but its time to make some small fixes to the courses and they'll be better for it. Lion's Paw was in need of these simple fixes and if done will make it a really nice course.

Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to Lion's Paw Golf Links. We apologize you didn't catch us at our very best due to the poa annua outbreak. Fortunately this has been aggressively treated and will improve quickly. Due to Covid concerns, like many other courses, we removed the rakes from our bunkers and have just recently begun re-implementing them. We have an order in right now for more rakes and that will help dramatically with any bunker issues. We hope you will visit us a again and see our continued improvement.

Good round while course dried out

Played here for the first time. Good layout, staff was friendly, for this time of year things were in good shape, but they had gotten lots of rain during the previous two weeks, so the course had spots where it was soggy. Standing water in a few bunkers and everything played cart path only, but it was a very enjoyable round. I will definitely play here again. Look forward to doing so in spring after it dries out a bit.

Thank you very much for reviewing your recent round at Tiger's Eye. It has definitely been VERY wet in our area in recent weeks, but things are drying out nicely now and it looks like a great spring season is at hand. We hope you can come visit us again soon!

Good conditions after all the rain

The course had received lots of rain (& a tornado) recently, and was therefore wet and soggy in places. I look forward to playing it again after it has had time to dry out. Standing water in some bunkers and low spots on the course, as well as balls stopping (plugging) on the fairways after a drive made for different challenges, but considering this, the staff did a great job preparing it for play.

Thank you very much! Yes, it has been incredibly wet in our area this winter, but we are looking forward to some warmer and drier conditions this spring, which will have Tiger's Eye and all the Big Cats courses in excellent shape for golf season. Thanks again and we hope to see you out Chasing Birdies with the Big Cats again very soon!

Like this course

Mt. Woodson is a delightful course. HAs a little bit of "Target golf" not lots of wide open holes, so you need to play with course management in mind. Not a "grip it and rip it" kind of course. No driving range for warming up, so often the first few holes become your warm up. Beautiful location great staff, good value for the money.

Cold day on terrific course

Today the weather was gray, cloudy, and cold (45-50º) but that didn't dampen the day. The course was in terrific shape and the round was a great one. The course "postcards" with paces and info to traps etc. make the playing the course and avoiding traps, OB, etc. easier. I am a 10 handicap, and usually have a few shots that could be better, but the course was fairly forgiving, yet challenging so as to not make it really easy. The views ( on a clear day) must be really great. The only thing was 1 or 2 holes had cart path only which made it harder (slower) to play. But all in all I loved the course and will definitely play it again if in Phoenix again.

Hoopologist,

Great views but some LOUSY HOLES

Several of the holes are just down right awful. From a friendly staff I was instructed on 4th hole to play the ball to the right away from the water due to the slope of the fairway. I took this advice on this and several other holes, but even with the advice and a good shot, the ball still rolled into the pond/water OB. The design of these holes was so bad that a reasonably good golfer still has trouble scoring. That combined with cart path only and a paranoia of frost that delayed the tee times nearly 45 minutes 3 days in a row, make this course very Undesirable in my mind. The really nice staff and few holes that offer great city views don't overcome the start of the course. Most persons complain about "target" golf, but that doesn't bother me. I expected typical desert golf, but this layout goes beyond this on several holes, making the entire round not worth it. I played Legacy, and Lookout Mountain Courses while here and would definitely recommend both of those courses before I would even consider playing here again.

Tee off at Dark

I arrived a little early to see the sunrise on the Arizona sky. The weather was really cold for the Phoenix valley (48º). Once I teed off, and the sun came up the weather got warmer. The round was terrific. I was a single and paired with two "regulars". They made the day really enjoyable. The course was challenging enough for me (index=11) but yet not unreasonably so. The pace of play was really good. The members of our foursome walked, but we never seemed to rush or back anyone up. The fact that I shot a 79 and birdied the final hole only served as a "cherry on top" of the really good day. I look forward to playing their again.
