Solid Golf

Enjoyable experience like always. We had a mix of sun, clouds, wind, heat and cold over a couple of days. Greens played firm and fast, in fact too fast at times given the undulations of the greens and pin placements for the weekend. Fairways were tight and in good shape, although a bit on the thin side for this time of year. Accommodations are always solid, food was great and service was good, golf carts have noticeable wear and having the Dunes Saloon and Pines Canteen closed for the season was a bit disappointing. Overall a great facility with 3 fantastic courses and a well recommended trip for your first time or another repeat trip.

Fantastic views and conditions

Golf club at Red Rock is one of the more dramatic layouts with some of the best views you will find. Rarely does a course have as many up and down holes with far reaching vistas like Red Rock. It is very much target golf and you can end up in less desirable positions even after well struck shots both off the tee and into the greens. The green complexes and 3-4 tiers on nearly every one and are very fast, making putting a great challenge. The majority of the layout is difficult but fair, a few holes

One of the best in the Black Hills

Hart Ranch is a well manicured, interesting but enjoyable layout in a valley right outside of Rapid City and not far from Mt Rushmore. The course has a mix of very playable, straightforward holes and a couple of extremely challenging holes that require well struck shots and well timed fortune in order to avoid big numbers. The greens are as smooth and pure as anywhere in the state and there are some incredible views as well. If you are playing in the Black Hills area it is as good as any course out there.

Fantastic, unique course

Mammoth Dunes is the newest 18 hole course at Sand Valley and while both are top notch, my opinion is Mammoth Dunes is the more unique, more dramatic and more enjoyable course at the resort. Despite the dramatic views and terrain, the Mammoth Dunes course is extremely playable for all abilities. The massive sand dunes the course is routed along combined with extreme elevation changes and large, undulating green complexes make this one of the most enjoyable courses I've played to date. If you can get an early season or late season day with good weather, the value is extremely appealing as well.

Top notch resort

Sand Valley is the original 18 at the Sand Valley Golf Resort and is well worth the trip to central Wisconsin. The green complexes at Sand Valley are incredibly interesting and difficult and make the course what it is. The punchbowl green on #17 is one of the most unique green complexes in the country. Tee to green is enjoyable as well. This course is more difficult than its companion course, Mammoth Dunes but equally enjoyable.

Best course at an overall great facility

The Wolf course at Paiute is hands down the best course on property. While course conditions are comparable among all 3 courses, the layout at the Wolf is by far the best and is worth the drive to play alone. Pairing the Wolf with Sun or Snow Mountain (both good courses just not as good as the Wolf) make for a great full day of golf and definitely worth the drive from Las Vegas. The wind often blows across the property, we played it on a particularly windy day which makes scoring very difficult. If you get the option, pick a calmer day to venture up to Paiute. Consistent conditioning and service make the golf a good value. Highly recommended for a 36 hole day.

Fantastic Facility

Perhaps the best manicured course in all of the Las Vegas valley. The greens are near perfect condition and fast and the fairways are lush. This is a well routed course that can play challenging from the back tees but is playable at the same time. A few holes are difficult no matter which set of tees you are playing as the course weaves around and across multiple canyons. While its not the cheapest course, it is worth the money if you make the trip given the layout, conditioning and high quality expectations TPC provides. Highly recommended.

Consistent golf experience

Always an enjoyable round. The course was in good shape with over seeded fairways and tees, a turning dormant rough and fast Bermuda greens that arent over seeded but painted a shade of green- this makes for faster conditions than most in Arizona all winter long. The grain is very strong on the greens however so this is something that is crucial to pay attention to. Layout is great and holes 16-18 can plays as tough as any courses finishing holes, particularly the uphill par 5 16th hole that always seems to go on forever and where par is always a good score. The staff has improved over the past couple of season and most encounters are now friendly and helpful. One area to improve upon can be an inconsistent beverage cart schedule. At times they seem to be absent during the afternoon. Pace of play is great in the early mornings but can get slow later in the day. Highly recommended to anyone in the West valley and looking for a great value on a 36 hole day where the VIP package includes all day golf, a dozen ProV1s and lunch for One reasonable Price.

Good Value

I would rate this as more of a 3.5 course if that was an option. For golfing options in Scottsdale on a budget I would highly recommend playing McCormick Ranch and their 36 holes. The layout was somewhat benign but it’s also not a course that will beat you up- a nice contrast to some of the tight desert courses in the area. In terms of Arizona winter gold the green fees were very reasonable at $85 and we were second off on a Friday morning and had zero wait, our foursome playing in just under 3 hours. The greens were slow and painted green with overseed so there was green coloring that ran onto your balls, clubs etc. Still a solid overall facility in a great location and a good value for the area. Would recommend as a place to start or end your trip due to the ease of getting around the course as well as for anyone looking to keep the cost of golf down.

Cool Experience

Troon North is a great overall 36 hole facility in a great location in Scottsdale. The course are both in good condition and are fun to play. The Monument course is slightly better than Pinnacle in my opinion as the elevation changes and views set it apart. Both are very tight off the tee which would get tiresome if playing daily but the landscape and conditioning of the course are great. Pace of play always seems to be an issue but a good part of this is due to the tightness of the fairways and the surrounding desert being all but completely unplayable within feet of the rough. Like many Scottsdale courses you are paying a premium for location and Troon is no exception. There is an exciting buzz at the facility each time I’ve been there and it’s an enjoyable and recommended experience for anyone that hasn’t been there.

Enjoyable experience

TPC Stadium was a blast to play with the familiarity of so many holes from annual TV coverage of the WM Phoenix Open. The front nine plays surprisingly long and has a few tight tee shots. The back nine is where some of the most famous holes in modern golf are found in particular, 15-18. 11 is the toughest hole on the property and 14 is second toughest. 15 and 17 are true risk reward holes and would be exciting to play each and every time. Having the majority of grandstands up added an unique and very cool experience. Course was in very good shape although the fairways and greens played much softer than I’m sure they will play come late January. Pace of play was not great as we played in over 4.5 hours. Green fees are on the pricey side but a twilight tee time is a much better value. Range and practice areas are great. I would strongly recommend especially if you can get any kind of bargain for less than the expensive rack rate for the sake of playing holes you can see each year on TV and a great atmosphere being right in the heart of Scottsdale. TPC Stadium is an overall good golf course and facility.

Upgraded Course

Since reopening after a redesign that reduced the total number of holes from 27 to 18 the Phoenician has been in very good shape and the new layout is very good. The conditioning in early December was solid with greens a bit on the slow side but the overseed course wide including rough has a nice look to it. The layout has some unmatchable views for being so close to downtown Phoenix. Great service and location is tough to beat. Expensive sticker price but you are paying for location, amentities and a well maintained course. Highly recommended if you can get a twilight rate or dynamic pricing rate online.

Great Value

Recently played Morris Williams and it was a verity pleasant surprise. I have a soft spot for a great muni and this one didn’t disappoint. Green fee was less than $30 to walk 18 and our 4 some made it around in just under 4 hours after only occasionally waiting on an early Sunday morning. The layout had some nice variety in topography the course conditioning was as expected for November. Some great views of downtown highlight the course on the front 9. Staff was friendly and you can sense the passion from players that frequent the facilities. One of the very best values in all of Austin for the price, location and solid course.

Fantastic Experience

Spanish Oaks certainly lived up to the hype of being one of the best golf clubs in Texas. The greens are smooth and incredibly quick. The course is demanding off the tee with great views from almost every tee box of the surrounding Texas landscape. Overall one of the best facilities and tougher golf courses I’ve played. Conditioning, service, amenities including ProV practice balls, variety of holes and an overall fantastic golf experience makes Spanish Oaks in the top tier of golf clubs for all of the US.

Nice layout and good golf course

Falconhead is one of the best public options in Austin. It’s not the cheapest course and a lack of high quality options in the immediate area allows for green fees to be on the high end. With that said the layout is great with fantastic views of the area from most holes. The course was in good shape and has a nice mix of holes to it. Tight tee shots mixed with more open landing areas on a few holes. The 7th hole stands out as an interesting drivable par 4 and the 8th is a definite photo opportunity with 1/3rd of the green hanging off of a cliff. Certainly recommended if you are playing in Austin.

The Prairie Club - Dunes Course

Great Course

The Dunes course is a wonderful, long but forgiving course. It winds in and out of ancient sand dunes with a traditional outward and inward nine setup. The fairways and the greens are massive- and if the wind blows you will use every inch of them. The course plays shorter than the listed yardage if winds are calm (relatively) but the bunkers, sand dunes and fescue is daunting and while you have ample fairways to hit into, it is very difficult to go all 18 holes without a 3 putt. The fairways run fast and firm and the greens roll well but are challenging especially the first few times around. The Dunes and The Pines make up the main golf attractions for one of the best golf resorts anywhere.

Fantastic Golf Destination

The Prairie Club is a remote destination golf club in Northern Nebraska and worth every bit of effort to get to. From the rooms and lodge to the food to the golf everything was well planned out and executed. The Pines course is my favorite of the two although most feel the Dunes is better. The best part of the Pines is how the course moves from rolling prairie holes to holes along the river canyon and weaving throughout the namesake pines, creating a variety unlike almost anywhere. The conditioning is always great, firm And low mow fairways allow endless options for shots into and around the greens. The green complexes appear to be naturally mowed into the ground however it sits. A few are a bit on the extreme side, notably the 9th. The 16th is as tough of a hole and green as any and the 18th is postcard worthy.

Outdated and in poor shape

Wigwam Gold has potential as a challenging, in town alternative to many of the areas desert courses. However the entire resort has a 1970s feel to it and the course condition was subpar at best with green speeds in the 5-7 stimp range. The layout is promising but much attention to condition and a face lift is needed before this course will be ranked in the top public courses in Arizona again. Your $100 green fee can be much better spent elsewhere
