Good Conditions, Slow Pace

We haven't been to Grey Rock in a while and with the round playing as slow as it did I am not sure when I will be back. Conditions were nice especially for November but the round just took too long.

Welcome back! We are glad to see you were able to visit us again after leaving us such a great review in February. We apologize that the pace of play was less than ideal during your round. We have seen an increase in destination golfers as winter begins to the north and Austin starts to see cooler weather. That is no excuse and we apologize. We hope you can give us another chance. Your feedback will be escalated to our ranger team to make changes right away. Thanks for playing Grey Rock Golf Club.

Augusta's greens are not this difficult

I enjoy playing this course, I like courses that present a challenge and this course always does. However the greens do not have enough grass on them, they are smooth and roll true but for how hilly the course is the greens are just unfair. Balls in my group were rolling all over the place. Bring your light putter until grass gets to grow some more, Course was in great shape for February, just be prepared to have a lot of 3 putts and try and stay below the pins.

Winter Golf Conditions

Grey Rock is always fun and challenging, I thought I would give an update on the conditions. Fairways and rough did not have much grass on them so it was tough making sure to really hit down on everything, also balls rolled forever, I hit a 2 hybrid about 330 yards on 18th, had a wedge into the par 5 2nd, etc. If you hit it offline there is nothing really to stop it. Greens were really fast, nice but just extremely fast and hard (couldn't find ball marks). Bunkers were the problem, wayyyy too much sand, I assume they loaded them up for the rest of the summer but it was difficult. Otherwise great course, great greens, no grass in fairways, not bad conditions considering our weather lately. Will be back.

Expect it to take forever

i live right across the street from MW and have played there 3 times since its reopened and will not be back. 2 of the 3 times it took OVER 5 hours (Sunday 09/01 - 5:22). That is just ridiculous, it no longer becomes fun no matter how well you are playing. The only time it didn't take 5 hours was a Friday at 4 PM and even that I couldn't finish before dark. The new set up is nice, although the course is already starting to dry out, not sure if it is water restrictions. This course just should be ashamed of itself that it takes over 5 hours consistently and no one seems to care or try and change it, they take your money and just stick a million people on the course, embarrassing. I can walk to MW and i won't be playing here again unless it's at odd times, but probably not even then. Terrible.

Forest Creek

Forest Creek is a very challenging course if you have not been there before. I played from the tips which is challenging but a lot of the holes twist and turn and if was difficult to judge just how far away the trees were, needless to say a couple holes what I thought were good drives went flying into the trees. Overall good experience and will be back for the good price. I do have to mention that they have the worst marshals I have seen, pace of play was great not much waiting at all but the marshals definitely made an impact. For one it was the 1st hole and a marshal couldn't stop by the tee had to keep drifting in his cart within my vision, I had to back away and reset. Not the way you want to start. Then later a different marshal comes flying up to a par 3 tee box and instead of going around us with plenty of room decides to go between us and the tee box and then just stop to watch the shot, person I was playing with dropped two in the water and was no happy with how the marshal acted. "Why didn't he just keep driving by" was the immediate response after his shots. Just unprofessional for no reason what so ever. Oh well overall very nice and enjoyable, definitely tricky for the first time.

5-somes allowed Weekdays

Went on President's Day and thought monday afternoon at 1:30 couldn't be too bad. I was wrong, a 5 some was allowed to tee off right in front of us, I talked to the pro shop and they said that was their policy during the week. So needless to say I finished at 6:30 - no thank you for a Monday afternoon. The course still needs time to comeback and grow, the fairways were OK, but off the fairways was no grass at all, a lot of tight lies that don't bother me but also aren't very fun, its called the rough for a reason. Greens were brown and a little gritty I would say - rolled ok but still kinda hopped across the green. Not worth going if its gonna take 5 hours, other courses are in better shape. But if you want a cheap round golfnow offers good deals here but it may take 5 hours - which is never worth it to me.

Hidden Gem

The Falls is a wonderful course, it just is not conveniently located. Played during a weekday and the course was empty. Beautiful layout, couple holes that restrict driver distance and have a tough second shot that cannot be made easier. Fun course, great value.

Challenge from the tips!

Golfnow did not have the Aeration special up and last time I played they had aerated the day before, was very disappointed. Course is very challenging from back tees, has high rough. Course conditions could be better (played other times and greens are not worth the normal price.) Usually empty in afternoon can play round quickly. GPS is nice feature.

Best Greens for the $$$

D. Springs is not the longest course out there but they have the best greens not only for the price but in general their greens are top notch - consistent. Have played there many times and greens are always in great shape.
