Peninsula Golf Club
Played On 07/31/2023I Love this place
Peninsula is a fun place to play 9 holes. It is easy to make a reservation, it is a full-size 9-hole course, it is not full of serious golfers who frown at playing with us hackers, etc. The staff is friendly, the course is kept very nicely, and I always get paired with people that are fun to share the round with.

Challenging layout, some greens are ridiculously sloped (one actually has a "crater" in it). Tees and greens are not in good shape.
Cherry Creek - The Woods Course
Played On 08/09/2019Gone way downhill
Have played here every year once or twice. Long ride from home, but always enjoyed the course. Not so today. The tee boxes were awful - more bare spots than grass on many. The fairways were filled with bare areas. The sand traps had not been maintained in a long time - what looked like animal holes in them, long strips that looked like they were eroded by water, etc.
We were told they lost their sprinkler system after a lightning strike (on both courses they run) - I don’t buy it. If that happened, the place would be full of brown grass - this was bare and that is also no excuse for the traps.
It resembled other courses I have played on Long Island in their final year after selling the property to a developer.

Course always kept well. Staff very friendly & helpful. This year, pace of play seems to have come to a crawl. I have had 4 consecutive 3-hour 9-hole rounds. The rough is usually dense - maybe that is why thee rounds are slow.

Played On 8/16/2013Nice course
Very tight OB areas - they built a housing development and fit a golf course into it, not the other way around. The course is fun to pkay, despite the several fences needed to protect players from being hit by golf balls from the very tight-fitting holes adjacent to each other. The back-9 greens are called "undulating". They should have windmills on them - they are not really tests of putting, but extreme hills and valleys. In other words they are "tricked up".
Beautiful piece of property, unfriendly residents (hey, they bought homes 5 feet off a golf course - what did they expect?), very friendlystaff
