Foxtail Golf Club - North Course
Played On 12/12/2015Your Average public course
I played this course and rather liked it but I think it was the condition of the bunkers that lowered my score. They were just hard and not that well managed. The tees, fairways and greens were pretty good and the course was reasonably fair. I would play it again and look forward to trying the South course.
Mauna Kea Golf Course
Played On 11/19/2015Fantastic Course
I've wanted to try this course for a few years and finally took the plunge. The whole experience was just fantastic. The conditions were first rate, from tee to green. I would love to go back and play again, though it was not cheap as a non-guest.
Bennett Valley Golf Course
Played On 06/28/2015Good municipal course with nice facilities
This is a very good course and in very good condition. It has a section of the driving range dedicated to practicing with irons on grass, a nice pro shop and restaurant, and a good putting green. My only real knock is that some of the bunkers were a little light on sand but they were not that bad.
All-in-all, this is a very good muni course at a good price.
The Links at Everline
Played On 06/20/2015Does not tolerate miss hits
If you are not straight and accurate with your shots, this course can be very frustrating. I was paired with two other singles but I was the only first-timer. I'm struggling with a slice when using my driver and I paid the penalty (I think I lost 9 balls). However, one of my partners, who normally shoots in the mid-90's (I usually show in the 100's), said he lost 12 balls. When you have a 195 yard par 3 where you lose the ball in the hazard if you're 10 yards short of the green is a bit rough. A push or pull can be just as hazardous to your score.
Valley of the Moon Golf Club
Played On 07/06/2014Very reasonable course
All around, this is a very reasonable course to play as long as the rough doesn't get too high. Not too many bunkers and the greens are not overly defended at all. Greens were pretty true, too.
Indian Wells Golf Resort - Celebrity Course
Played On 02/02/2014A very reasonable course with some nice challenges but not too hard
We really enjoyed this course. After being pretty beat up at another course yesterday, this course was a lot more fun to play. It's absolutely gorgeous, expansive, and well-maintained. The Celebrity course is a little challenging for this 25+ handicap golfer but it doesn't punish you.
The staff was great, the pace of play very good, the overall conditions were first rate. Of the places I've played, this is one where I'll definitely want to come back to play again. It also probably has the nicest clubhouse I've experienced. I'd love to come back and try out the Callaway performance center.
SilverRock Resort
Played On 02/01/2014Tough douse for the novice
This is a beautiful course but it is very tough. The conditions were great but a golfer who is not dialed in with direction and distance will pay a penalty. I'm glad I played here but I won't be back until I'm much better.
For the record, I've only been playing semi-regularly for about two years and have only broken 100 twice. The bunkers and the water really killed me on this course. The wide open spaces really messed with my sense of distance, too. I had a much better time playing at the Indian Wells Celebrity Course today.
I would only recommend this course if you're consistently a sub-90 player and want a challenge.
Chardonnay Golf Club
Played On 9/8/2013Pleasant but challenging
Chardonnay is definitely a challenging course for the novice player. Unlike other courses where a hook or slice might end up in an adjacent fairway, here you end up O.B. in the vineyards or the trees. If you're not accurate with your driver, you'll might want to consider leaving it in your bag.
There were some beat-up areas with patchy grass resulting in difficult lies and the sand traps felt a little thin but the course is in good condition. The rough felt a bit tall and it was difficult to get a clean hit out of it but this might have been due to them trying to compensate for the hot weather. The greens were reasonably true.
One nice thing to note is that unlike some other public courses in the area, they do have cart service on the course and a decent snack bar at the turn.
Rooster Run Golf Club
Played On 5/26/2013Nice course, good value but with a few rough edges
There are lots of courses that can really punish a golfer but this course is pretty fair. The course was in good condition -- the driving range felt a little beat up but absolutely no complaints on the course. The staff were also very friendly.
My biggest complaint is the lack of food cart service. Be sure to bring something to eat or drink if you can't make it through to the turn.
