Gave it another try

It's been over a year since playing there. 3 years ago considered joining and they said that they were spending money on it to try to bring it back to its Old Glory. They spent money for sure, on the clubhouse. I would say if you want to have a golf course be a source of income, maybe you should spend some time money and energy on getting it into shape. Booked 18 holes but quit after 9. I would say over all the courses in worse condition than what it was 3 years ago. For playing on a Saturday evening it looked like the holes have not been changed out in a week. The edges were Brown and grass was growing over them down into the hole. The fairways had grass if that's what you want to call it and sporadic at best on some holes. It's sad because it seems like they care more about hosting Banquets and weddings more than the course. I would suggest taking your own golf cart if it's four wheel drive because the cart paths need help. I will say the greens overall were fairly plush but not fast because it seems like they keep them wet enough to keep them growing they just never cut them. It would take an act of God for me to go back. Sorry Oak Valley I had high hopes.

Pace of play

It just seems to be the standard that anyone willing to pay for a round of golf can take as long as they want to play with no consideration for the rest of the course. If you have more double, triple or worse bogeys than pars or bogeys maybe you should play weekdays in the day or evenings, not on the weekends. Use the weekends to go to the range and practice until you acquire some consistency. I have played a lot of golf in my life and even the golfer that shoots a 90 can still get around a course in 4 - 4 1/2 hours. Be ready when it's your turn and don't forget that there are golfers behind you waiting. Keep up with the group in front of you. Pay attention to what's in front and behind you. Enough rambling. LOVE this course will be back and hope there is some kind of marshalling. Maybe the Midwest should be like every where else I've played in the country. If the marshal sees that you are holding people up they tell you to pick up and go to the next hole or let them play through.

Like Everywhere else

Don't get me wrong. This is a nice course but like most of the nicer courses, since COVID they have hiked prices because they are trying to capitalize on the influx of golfers. How about leaving prices so the average Joe doesn't feel like they have to choose whether or not to play or feed their kids. LOL I mean with a full tee sheet I get it but 70.00 is a little much and if it were 50.00 they would still feel the tee sheet and have happier customers that would probably spend it at the 19th or for future outings. Just because you can doesn't mean you should

Pace

While the course conditions were great and it was well worth the 1-hour drive made, the pace of play grew increasingly worse throughout the round with no remedy effort made. It took an hour longer to play the back nine than the front (5 1/2 hours total), as the twosome in front of us continuously waited for the group in front to clear the fairway or green, while playing from the back tees, and did not hit a shot more than 150 yards all day. My daughter attempted to say something to the group early in the round about not waiting to tee off because the group in front of them was on the green and it measured 360 yards from the back tee, but had no luck in improvement throughout the round. The two groups behind us caught up to us where we discussed the pace problem, as they told us the front nine was completely open, but it seemed every hole on the back was jammed because of this group. This was especially frustrating because there was no marshal out to check the pace, which I would have assumed there would be considering we are now in the middle of the summer where the course would have a lot of play on a Sunday afternoon. Upon arriving and paying, the staff did not provide information about where to get a cart, go to the range/putting green, or where the first tee was located. I was also directed to the pro shop to retrieve a scorecard, pencil, and cart key, with no shop attendant present, also something I assumed would be available during the middle of the summer on a busy day. Will I be going back? Yes, I would just like to see some of these small remedies put in place to make a better experience for all guests.

Still Over Priced

The course is coming along. Still think its overpriced and especially for this time of year. Pace of paly was what I thought it would be. They packed the course because of the rare nice weather which I understand. If your going to make my 2some into a 4some then you should have done that to every group and maybe the pace would have picked up a bit. 5 hrs. and 15 min. is to long. We'll see again after the spring greenup if the fairways are coming along as good as the bunkers

Over Priced

Looked forward to playing this course and finally got to it . Paired up with a member and all looked well until about the 3rd hole and things came to a crawl. We were a threesome so I understand that we will move along a bit quicker but after 3, that's right 3 hours we finally finished the front 9. We saw a marshal on the 10th tee. There were also 2 other foursomes on the tee. He told us all that, and I quote "Everyone's playing at the same pace so there's nothing he could do to speed things up". How about tell everyone in front of us to speed it up...there's an idea. As for the course. I've played on many St. Louis courses for less money and better conditions. I guess some will say your paying for the reputation or the views and atmosphere. Whatever. By the 13th we were on pace for a 6 1/2 hour round. We left and chalked it up as a good lesson. They should get better marshals or everyone need to quit thinking they are getting a big check at the end of the round for that 95 or 72 they just shot with their buddies. Won't go back. It's a shame that people are no longer considerate of other people.

Better than expected

I had been wanting to play here for sometime and finally got around to it. What took me so long?! I will definitely go back. Nothing negative to report. Great layout, course conditions and friendly staff. The only thing which had nothing to do with the course was it was very windy and there was a funky smell which I assume was coming from the neighboring , I think grain processing plant. Highly recommend.

Never Again

I played the course a couple times over the past few months, and thought maybe the weather has been kind of crappy and maybe it will be better when it warms up. Well here we are, the first week of May, and only one hole had full growth grass on it. 13 of the 14 fairways were basically dirt. If you would call them teeboxes, as they are marked for you to tee off, were apparently optional in terms of grass. I guess you could call them cartpaths, because they were that at one time, but the experience would have been better with off-road golf carts in this case. Bunkers... this was my first experience of playing a golf course that actually had grass growing in all of the bunkers. Shockingly, the greens are of adequate size and were in an 8/10 condition. We were considering getting our child who plays college golf a membership here for the summer for access to playing and range time, but the driving range tee boxes looked just as bad as the rest of the course, which would not benefit a collegiate golfer, considering the conditions they play on. The guy in the pro shop told us earlier this year that they would be getting cartpaths this spring, but I guess that has been put on hold or they have not started yet. In my opinion, the money they intended on spending on cartpaths, should be spent towards the course, fertilizer, sod, sprigging, etc. In conclusion, I played this course again in attempt to see the course in good condition with the good weather, and if I had not received the hot deal at the time, I probably would not have played it again. Chalked up as a lesson learned.

Senior Scramble

The course was what I expected from what friends had told me. I will definitely play again. The only issue I had was I played during the week and there was a Senior Scramble in progress when I arrived. They started us on the 13th hole and it didn't take us 4 holes to catch up to them. Our 2some took 5 hours to play.

Maintenance has gone to the wayside

The cart paths are basically deteriorating and flooded. It rained the day before so we expected some standing water but WOW. They were more like a goat trails. Tee boxes are worn out to the point that it hard to find a good level spot or grass to tee from. The greens were in surprisingly good condition, not to many ball marks. The groups in front of us and behind us were a loud bunch that seemed to be in their mid to late 20's that had no respect for the course or the others playing it. At one point there was 8 of them, yes 8 because they were playing in two seperate foursomes that decided to pair up as two foursomes and scramble. At one point they were all trying to get something out of a tree next to a green, no it wasn't a ball because we had to wait for them the entire hole because they refused to let us through which brings me to the Marshall or lack there of. The food at the turn was your run of the mill food, ie... hot-dogs, chips, soda and of course beer. 2 Powerades and a hot-dog should not cost $12.50 on any planet. Bar staff was very friendly but the Pro Shop could be more warming to the none local face. That will be my last and only time playing here.
