Talking Stick Golf Club - Piipaash Course
Played On 05/01/2022Immaculate
Course is in fantastic shape, and the greens were absolute perfection. When these greens are quick the course becomes fairly difficult. The fairways are the size of runways but the challenge comes from the second shot on in. If your irons aren’t dialed in, don’t miss in the correct spots, or your short game is in a bad place, it could be a frustrating day. Also, it’s always going to be a bit breezy, which makes it that much more challenging.

The course is in fantastic shape from tee to green! My only complaint (and it’s not entirely valid) is that the “Tournament” tees are never setup. I’m a pretty solid player and 6,850 yards just isn’t enough to make it a stern test of golf. Aside from that, I can’t say enough good things about the staff, layout, superb course conditions, and V’s Taproom. Just a really good experience every time we tee it up out there.

This is always a fun course, and the condition of the greens didn’t change that. I saw many reviews as to how bad of shape the greens were in and had to see for myself. Are they in good shape? No, they aren’t, but I attribute that to attempting to manipulate the winter grass in to living longer. This year was a tough transition for golf courses. The tees, fairways, and areas around the greens were more than solid so I have no complaints. Most folks leaving poor reviews couldn’t 2-putt from 45 feet regardless of the condition of the greens. I’d recommend this course to anyone who enjoys a good, solid challenge as it is a second shot golf course.
Rancho Manana Golf Club

The course is priced well for the time of year and, don’t let the scorecard fool you, it’s a tough trace. Your tee shots will be at a premium and your second shots even more so, with super tiny, tough to read greens. You can hit driver all day, but you MUST know that anything that strays too far from center will be gone. Also, obvious “driver” holes like nos 8 and 12 aren’t what they seem. Plot along and aim for the center of the greens. Toughest short course I have ever played, but plenty of scoring opportunities. Very fair.
Lookout Mountain Golf Club
Played On 01/06/2021Excellent Course!
Tee to green this course is only slightly challenging, offering huge fairways (on most holes) and short second shots. That said, get on or around the greens and the course becomes a lovely headache. We were fortunate to play with a gentleman who plays the course a handful of times a week and he gave us reads that I thought were ridiculous. Well, they weren’t. Awesomely fast greens with huge yet subtle steep slopes. You have to take a GOOD look at the entire green if you wish to make putts. Second shots are almost always better left 30+ feet short of the pin rather than 15+ feet past the pin. NEVER miss long and over the green as you will be left with a chip that is nearly impossible to get within 3-5’.
Rydawg83,
Thank you for taking the time to review Lookout Mountain Golf Club! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the course golf, layout, and conditions. Yes, the greens do offer the most protection against good scores and are often regarded as the best part of the course (especially if you like fast greens!). We look forward to seeing you again!

First, let me mention the guys at the bag drop. Usually this is an forgettable experience, but the guys who welcomed me were super upbeat, welcoming, and seemed genuinely interested in my experience. Side note: I hope the afternoon employees share tips with the morning guys. The afternoon folks were good, but I left a solid tip hoping they were shared with the gentleman I encounter before my tee time. Anyhow, the course was in excellent shape, without the thousands of gallons of water than have been on other courses the past 30 days. It was dry, green, and the ball was running out, just as it should be in the middle of summer in the desert. Great experience beginning to end.
