Bring a lot of balls

Admittedly I’m not the most consistent ball striker out there, but the deep rough that surrounds every hole just 10-15 feet off the fairway is a nightmare that makes finding any errant ball nigh on impossible. The holes were well laid out but they might as well have been islands in a lake for any high handicappers. It doesn’t even matter if you watch your ball trickle into the barest edge of that rough, the gremlins and pucks that reside there will abscond with it never to be seen again. But enough about that.

The staff were friendly enough both before and after my round, and the facilities and new cart paths were wonderful. Unfortunately, GolfNow paired a single with my threesome and we were only issued two carts (one for us, one for him) Well, after 5 holes he decided that was going to play on ahead because he had places to be, so we were left 3 to a cart. Not really the Club’s fault but it would have been better if they had issued two carts to the threesome and one to the single.

Otherwise, there were some maintenance issues, beyond just dead spots in the fairways. The bunkers hadn’t been raked in days, and it seems very few of the local players take the time to fix their ball marks.

Lastly, and most irksome was getting to the back nine and playing behind two teens that were taking 15-20 minutes every shot and just messing around hitting multiple shots in the bunkers and fairways. I couldn’t play through or pass them because there was a threesome and a foursome slow playing ahead of them. It took 4 hours to get through 14 holes (1 1/2 hrs to play 11 - 14) and I had to skip the last 4 because I didn’t have an additional 2+ hours to play them.

A gem of the NC foothills

First time playing this course after playing several in the area. I was taken aback by the beauty of this course and it’s immaculate condition. I kept wondering how on earth I could get to play it so cheaply, then I’d giggle. The course itself is excellently designed within the natural landscape and challenging with greens that were neither too fast or too slow. Unfortunately, my round got called on the 12th due to lightning, but there was no hassle in the pro shop about getting a refund or rain check. In fact, I didn’t even have to ask. They just took care of the golfers. Since I had booked through a third party, they gave me a 9-hole rain check which I am excited to redeem in the near future.

Beside the golf course, there are nice practice facilities, a pool, tennis courts, and grill/restaurant with pretty good food and friendly service.
