Bella Collina Golf Club
Played On 10/16/2015Bring your best game and hope for the best
This is arguably the hardest course I have run into in 50 years of golfing. It offers up to 7600 yards of demanding shots. Length alone will not make your day because the course demands controlled shots to specific places and distances.
It is always in great shape with fast running greens. The facilities are beyond belief beautiful. The views are scenic. The staff treats you like a member at a private facility.
At the end of the day I always feel like O gave it my all but maybe I just don't have enough in the tank to beat this place. I always want to come back and try again. I recommend this facility for good players that are up to a significant challenge.
Shingle Creek Golf Club
Played On 10/12/2015Excellent Golfing just about on I Drive
About one mile from the Convention Center on International Drive is a beautiful golf course that is always in great shape. It is called Shingle Creek. While you are right in the hub of things going on in Orlando the course projects the views of an isolated course.
The greens were rolling nice and holding perfectly after the Summer aerations. The rough was challenging although not impossible, The fairways were a bit soft after an early fall rainy period but in excellent condition. The course is demanding but generous thereby allowing you to hit your driver. All-in-all, an excellent choice for quality golf.
Our reception was excellent with free valet parking service. The Proshop was friendly and perfect in handling our reservation. Before our round we had an excellent lunch. In summary, it was just as if we had arrived at our private club for a relaxing day.
Even the weather cooperated. October starts some great weather for Orlando and this was a defining day.
Smoky Mountain Country Club
Played On 08/12/2015So you want to play a mountain course!
This is a course that will challenge any golfer. It will probably overwhelm a higher handicap player. Ladies will have difficulty climbing the hills but my wife likes the challenge. So, with that caution, it is an place that provides some exceptional views, drop shots with excitement and a demand for accuracy.
The conditions were okay but not great. The rough is ragged and difficult to play from. The greats were decent but have a fair amount of foreign plants (course grasses) growing. The fairways were good.
The course demands accurate shots. It starts off docile but on the fourth hole you will start to see the demands it offers. The fifth hole will make you wonder how you got to the International Space Station and ask "how do I get down?" Play it on a day when you are rested and feel your game is in good shape.
Linville Falls Golf Club
Played On 05/27/2014Same old story, great course, no money!
I live in Florida where many courses are operating on a shoestring so I am not surprised to run into that situation again. Linville Falls is a beautiful layout just off the high rise into the Banner Elk, Beech Mountain, Boone area so it gets less attention than the courses at the higher elevations. I played this course for three years in a row now and I have never seen it crowded with a full tee sheet. On this trip our car stood out in the parking lot, all alone. Pace of play was whatever we made it.
The course had apparently just changed hands over the preceding weekend. The conditions were the worst I had seen in the three years I played there but conditions were never pristine the entire time. Surprisingly, the greens were good albeit a touch on the slow side probably because they were full of grass except for a few damaged areas. They had a pretty tough Winter so that explains a bit of the problems on the course. Some of the fairways were very stressed showing large areas of dead grass. But, there was a lot of maintenance activity on the course with spraying taking place aggressively so maybe here is hope for the conditions to improve.
This is a fun layout that will keep your interest throughout the round. At the current prices it is a steal even with the conditioning problems.
Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club - North Course
Played On 05/14/2014A quality facility in Central Florida
This wasn't my first time at Lake Jovita and i hope to have many more trips there. This is a lovely community away from the busy parts of the state. The course(s) provide a nice challenge in usually very good condition. One this tripo the course was a bit dry and showed some signs of stress on the greens where there were several bare areas. This is unusual at Lake Jovita and I suspect will be rectified soon as the Summer rains move in.
RedTail Golf Club
Played On 04/09/2014Redtail, challenging and enjoyable
This is a place you will want to play again, no matter how many times you have already played there. The course was in reasonably good condition after a pretty difficult Winter. Because it is well liked and reasonably priced it does get a heavy amount of play but that has not taken a heavy toll on the course. The pace of play was around 4 hours and on pace. The course makes you hit the right shot at the right time. There are number of holes that you will remember but none more so than the 18th. It is a perfect finish to what always proves to be a fun day.
Royal Oaks Golf Club
Played On 03/26/2014Royal Oaks - A good name for the course
This is a nice tree lined facility that will challenge your accuracy but give you a lot of fun in doing so. It is in good condition after a fair.y difficult Winter season (laste March 2014). The greens are full and running fast. The fairways are good. The trees are full. I have played here many times over a five year period and found the conditions are good each time. Take a trip to the putting green and have some fun with a really nice warmup green.
Country Club of Silver Springs Shores
Played On 3/20/2013A quality design hidden in Central Florida
Silver Springs offers a golf course designed by a well known and first rate course architect. The greens will offer a challenge to even the most proficient players. In an eceonomy that is not allowing courses to get high fees the facility has been able to maintain playing conditions at a nice level. The greens are very nice and fairways are decent with the Winter overseed still strong. I so wish they had another $1Million to add to the maintenace budget.
Brooksville Country Club
Played On 10/17/2012The Quarry Holes Distinguish the Facility
Your round will start out on a traditional Central Florida course and take you to a WOW experience when you get to the quarry holes. We have played there a number of times and it has become a favorite of ours. The course managers are very accomodating and they make the place affordable.
Timacuan Golf Club
Played On 03/04/2015New greens on a really fun layout
Prior to starting the round I was told the greens were rolling pretty fast. Wow, was that an understatement. They were rolling true and fast but holding pretty well on full shots. The fairways were nice and the rough is Bermuda so it is still a bit dormant and therefore playable.
This is a quality layout that makes you think your way around. Water comes into play on quite a few holes. Bunkering is very effective. I played the Blue tees at 6500 yards and it was plenty for me. The course ratings seemed very low to me for the challenge presented.
A very friendly round of golf on a fine facility.
Bella Collina is regarded as one of the more difficult golf courses in the area, but we are very happy to hear you had a fun time! Come back and see us soon!
