Nice Rees Jones design with plenty of doglegs and elevation changes. Tees and fairways ok, greens in excellent shape. Traps are simply horrible, so avoid them at all costs! Would be a good idea to remove whatever is left of the "sand" in the traps, put in sod, and turn them into grass bunkers. The rest of the course infrastructure (tee markers, ball washers, water stations, etc) are in sad shape as well. But all that should not prevent you from enjoying this great design in Ocala horse country. Friendly staff and a terrific value course!

Excellent Desmond Muirhead design on a course that's not built for neighborhood real estate views. Plenty of interesting holes that will not bore you. Excellent greens with all other conditions typically good for this time of year. Yes, the cart paths and on-course restroom facilities are terrible, but won't interfere with your game. Great value on a real golf course.

Quite a few area courses are experiencing conditions ranging from fair to just plain terrible. Give Water Oak credit for keeping the fairways playable and the greens and traps in excellent condition. The super smooth, quick greens are impressive.The approach fairway on #15 needs work, and has been in subpar shape for a while. Likely due to plenty of leaves and tall trees to block the sun. Went out as soon as a rainstorm cleared, and played extremely fast. Not long, but a great layout in fine condition for mid-March.

Fairly short course with a classic design. Several holes go up and down a large valley, making it challenging and not typical of Florida. Small greens in good condition. Fairways and tees OK for these winter months. Friendly staff and a good value if you are looking for something different than a housing development golf course.

Course is holding up pretty well for the Winter months, with tees, greens and traps in good condition. Despite all the rain, the fairways are a bit thin and hard. The ball will roll forever, especially on the down hill holes. Expect to drive a couple of Par 4's with a well placed shot. Strategic placement is essential to be in the right position for your approach shot. Several holes are close together, and a few stray balls may be flying your way. Overall, an interesting place to play.

Course conditions are holding up well for the winter. Greens are great, healthy and smooth.
If you like doglegs, you've got them here. Great layout for strategic placement of shots. Greens on front 9 are much smaller than the back, requiring accuracy. Borders Ocala National Forest, making it a peaceful place to play.

Played this course in the past and I've seen it in some terrible shape. So I was pleasantly surprised to see it in very playable condition for this time of year. A nice little executive layout in a small community, great for sharpening your golf skills, and fairly priced. A lot of vegetation was removed a few years ago that gave the course more visual character around the ponds, which now just resemble sink holes filled with water. But still a welcome place to play.

I enjoy playing Stonecrest. Good design, decent conditions, friendly staff and a great value for this time of year. However, be aware that the recent spate of warm weather has triggered large amounts of poa annua on the greens. No problem if you get to play soon after mowing. If not, you can expect your putts to jump all over the place. Interestingly, there are several areas on the greens where the poa spread suddenly stops, leading one to think there was a supressant applied there. If you don't mind a bumpy putting surface at this time of year, Stonecrest may be a good choice.

Plenty of doglegs to make things interesting. Course is still in good shape, with the greens being exceptional. Place of play was great, since we came across only 3 other people that day. Fun back nine that borders the Ocala National Forest. A real golf course that has not been built for the sake of housing development view lots. Friendly staff and a great value.

Course is in fine Winter shape, with all of the greens being exceptional. Plenty of doglegs and well laid out holes to make the course interesting and challenging. Clubhouse facilities are not much to look at, but staff was friendly. Excellent pace of play and a great value, especially during the winter.

Good conditions and outstanding greens. But if poor cart paths and dismal rest rooms bother you, go someplace else. Great golf a a reasonable price.

Plenty of elevation changes and well-designed holes that will hold your interest. Traps, tees and greens in good condition for this time of year. Played here a couple of weeks ago, and the fairways were in much better condition. Either the overseeding did not hold up or some sort of fungus or disease is killing the fairway grass. But just roll it over and enjoy the course. Better than shoveling snow!

Always enjoyed the layout of this course, which is in good shape with the exception of the greens which are exceptional. Eye-popping overseeded green and true-rolling. 18 perfect examples of what conditions are obtainable at this time of year. Our pace of play was fine, since the starter let us play the back nine first. The par 4 third hole on the front nine is subject to a big logjam since some players will lay up in front of the pond and others will try to drive the green. You usually end up with two foursomes waiting on the tee. Other than that, a very enjoyable 18 holes despite the rainy weather. Yes, the cart paths are beat up, but who cares? A great value on a great course.

A much better course after the recent re-design and renovation. Greens are larger and in excellent shape. Several holes require accurate tee shots to avoid trouble. A couple of fairways are in need of growth, but efforts are in process to improve these areas. Lots of elevation changes that are not typical of a Florida course. Nice to see that groups are well separated to keep the pace of play on track. Friendly staff makes Water Oak a great place to play.

Course is in good overseeded shape for the Winter, with the greens being in exceptional condition. A few fairways are a bit weak in spots, but nothing to complain about. Staff was very friendly and pace of play was good. Plenty of doglegs and the back nine has several holes that will certainly get your attention. Not much of a clubhouse, but who cares when you are golfing instead of shoveling snow somewhere. Worth a trip.

Pace of play was amazingly fast (2-1/2 hours!) since there was only 2 of us and the course was empty that Monday afternoon. Friendly staff and simply a great day of golf.

First time playing Water Oak since their extensive renovation, and we were not disappointed. Beautiful new layout with outstanding conditions all around. Hard to recognize the course from previous years. Larger, super smooth putting greens and well-groomed traps and approach areas. Not long, but a true shot makers course to enjoy. Terrific staff and well spaced out tee times that eliminated waiting or the feeling of being pushed by the group behind us. Water Oak has now evolved into a true gem. Looking forward to playing it again and again.

Great layout with interesting holes and smooth, healthy greens. Fairways are fine for this time of year but the tees and traps need some serious work. Perhaps they are too far gone and are in line for some complete renovation work. But they are playable, if not pretty. Staff is very friendly and the pace of play was good. A gem of a course that just needs some expensive work. Great bargain at this time of year!

Well designed course that is not too long for most golfers. Months of dry weather has stressed some tees and fairway areas to an extent, but the course is still very playable. Several hidden hazard areas come into play that require caution if you are playing this course for the first time. Overall, a nice experience.

Fun design with a wide variety of holes, no two alike. Overseeding has held up pretty well for this time of year. Greens run true, with only a few small areas with bad spots. Otherwise, very playable and well maintained. Rain stopped just before we went out, and with few people on the course, we finished in 3-1/2 hours. Great!
