Might be better in the summer

Was told that the greens were aerated the middle of March.... wasn't told that there was still significant sand on the greens that made them slow! Most of the grass is still dormant, with a lot of bare spots. It was a very windy day so that affected play! Sand traps were cementified.... hard as cement! Would play again, perhaps later in the year when the grass is green. Perhaps the bare spots will fill in!!

Not a typical day of golf

I was in the Venture county area for work and decided to play a round of golf on my way back to San Diego, so this was the first time I've been to this course. The marine layer was thick at the coast so I assumed I would be okay inland. Got to the course at 7:30 am for an 8:08 tee time. The marine layer was thick.... the staff said they don't delay tee times for the marine layer. I decided to tee off 15 minutes early as a single. Between the staff's advice, the carts GPS, and the map and advice on the score card, I did alright! The 1st, 3rd, and 5th hole I couldn't see past 100 yards. I played conservative and it worked out! I said all that to say some of the course conditions I can't say for sure. The tee boxes were in great shape. Quite a few holes are very narrow so you had to be accurate. I was in several sand traps and most were in good shape. Fairways & greens were in great shape and the greens were fast. When the marine layer finally lifted, about 8:50 the course is very pretty! As a single two groups let me play through so I played in 3 1/2 hours. I would definitely play again!!!

Decent course

Good course in good condition. The fairways, bunkers (I was only in one), tee boxes, and greens were in very good shape. The staff was excellent. As a JC course, this course usually runs a bit high.... I got a great deal on GolfNow! I would play this course again with another great deal!!!

Decent course

We've played Miramar many, many times. The course is in good condition right now. The greens were in great condition and so were the bunkers! I don't regret landing in a bunker with soft sand compared to the concrete other course have!! The tee boxes were also in good shape. Some holes I was really impressed with the fairways, others not so much. The course is very flat, easy to walk.... not very many hazards. We've played it many times, will play it again many times - but usually only when we get a great deal < $25. BTW, I always play the blue tees, the whites are just too easy!!!

Not bad if you get a cheap rate!

My wife and I played Oct 13th, had an 11:30ish tee time. Last time we played here was 2+ years ago when it was Lake San Marcos, now it's St. Marks Country Club. The course design hasn't changed much. We stopped playing there because course conditions were so bad that it was a joke to be called a golf course! Since the 'new name' course conditions have improved quite a bit. Most of the course had grass, and green to boot! The rough wasn't too tall that you couldn't hit out of it. Sand traps were excellent condition, best part of the course!! The fairways had grass, about 60% of the fairways had good grass, the rest was so thin and hard it was hard to hit off of. The greens for the most part were not in good shape! All of them looked good from a distance but two thirds of them had bare spots and looked bad! About 4-5 greens were in good to veyr good condition! My wifes biggest complaint was the womens tees were too close to the blue tees where I hit from on quite a few holes! We played for under twenty-five bucks and decided we'd go back but wouldn't be willing to pay more than that!

Great course away from it all!

Played as a twosome Sunday June 22nd...... got a good rate on Golfnow! The previous reviews said this course was in good-great shape! Overall the course was in great shape. Tee boxes, fairways, sand traps (was only in 1 or 2) and greens! I usually play the 'blues' and kept to it as the 'white' tees would not have been challenging enough! Hardest part of the course was the rough..... it was very thick and hard to hit out of!!! Would definitely play this course again as long as the rate was resonable!!!

Great course, thanks for the reviews

Played as a twosome Friday June 6th.... the reviews said the course was in exceptional condition and it was! Haven't played this course in a while but got a great rate on Golfnow with a promo code! I usually play the 'blues' maybe I should have played the 'whites'! Tough course!!! Tee boxes, fairways, greens, sand traps were all in good to excellent condition!!! Absolutely would play there again & recommend this course to others!!!

Let me say part of the rating I give this course is due to players not fixing their divots on the tee box, fairways, or greens. Also, we didn't realize there was some maintenance (sand-traps mostly) being done on the course! The greens were the best part of the course, fairly quick, but we did have to move our ball at times to avoid the divots. Fairways were ok, the rough was pretty rough, hard to get out of, the sand traps started off ok but then were very wet to mud puddles. If it wasn't for the good rate we got I would be tempted to complain more.

Great course for what we paid!

We played on 23 August 13, our normal beautiful day in San Diego! We started on time as a 3-some following a 3-some. The course was in very good condition! Fairways had a few thin spots but overall not bad. We were only in a couple of sand traps and they were in good condition! The greens were in great shape!! They were fairly soft but repaired easily and most if not all players were good about fixing their divots! The only negative thing to mention was the pace of play. There was a foursome playing extremely slow, with no one in front of them and NO marshall around to speed up play!!! I'm sure we could have played in 4 - 4.5 hours instead of 5 if they would have played faster!

Good course

We always enjoy playing this course. Course was in overall good condition. No major problems with tee boxes, fairways, greens, or sand traps (I think we were only in one!). Some of the fairways were bare but if you don't mind moving your ball a little to some grass it makes a difference. We picked a hot day, around 90, and some of the water coolers were empty so make sure you have plenty of water with you & keep them filled up!
