Beautiful layout and a first class Pete Dye design

The La Quinta Resort is a fantastic place to play golf. This clubhouse is where Fred Couples got his start and it's a part of the "Western Home of Golf." The Mountain course is built among the mountains surrounding the desert valley. The 4th hole par 5 plays directly next to the mountain the entire way, ensuring that an errant shot to the right ricochets high up in the air to make sure everyone knows.

As you head to the back the course begins to move up into the mountain and it's at this point you'll be glad you're not walking the course. When you reach the par 3 16th, the signature hole of the course, walk up to the spot where the tips play during a tournament. There are stairs and a handrail, bring your camera and get a shot of your group with the valley.

This is a fun course with the signature Dye railroad ties. It's very challenging while at the same time not punishing you (most of the time) for an occasional bad shot. This course is worth a replay!

Difficult and Awesome!

I've been playing the Dunes since I was 6 years old. This course is exceptionally challenging. Most greens are raised and the rough (especially if it's been a rainy season) is thick and deep. This course has everything you would expect in a Dye design. It's worth the effort! The course is much more playable from the silver and gold tees. Once you get to white and up it's a very different challenge. I love this course!
