Marshall Canyon Golf Club
Played On 03/09/2023Another 5 hour Round, Om!!!
My tee time was at 10:57, hmmm!? What an odd time, but anyway it was a good price. I found out they book every 9 minutes. Not 10 or 15 minutes but every 9 minutes! Well it was backed up by 2nd hole, especially since the 2nd hole is a par 3 and it never let up until some ahead of us quit on the back 9.
Luckily, throughout the round I was in Zen mode (LOL) and started "meditating and chanting" (really, just talking to myself) silently between holes and I survived. My playing partner was going nuts, but I maintained my cool the whole round. At one point I just start laughing historically but in a hidden and silent way, as we waited on every hole. I didn't play my best golf but then again I haven't been out awhile because of all the rain. I still left the course feeling great, which is unusual for me after a 5 hour round.
The course fairways were bit over grown as most courses are this time of year but I did see lots of work being done all over the course while we were playing. The pro shop and bathrooms have been remodel recently and look top notch.
Rounds like this seems to be normal on a course like this so I am adjusting my strategy by playing less golf, meditating and adding more patience to my golf repertoire. The key for me is acceptance that golf will never be what it was before the pandemic! Thanks!
San Dimas Canyon Golf Course
Played On 02/26/2020A Golf Course with Potential
The course was in great shape with well-kept greens and fresh sand in the bunkers. The staff was friendly and helpful. My round took 5 hours and 20 minutes on a Wednesday! The problem with San Dimas Canyon GC is the slow play. I am not sure if the staff can solve this problem. I think this has to do with the players that frequent the golf course. It could be anything from golfers playing from the wrong tees or attempting to read putts like a tour pro. Nothing is perfect and every course has its problems but slow play will keep me away.

Great day playing with great players. The only problem was we waited on every hole. I am not sure where bottleneck was but you should never have to ride or walk up to the tee box before the group before have all tee off. The round ended bad because waiting is the sure fire way to kill my tempo with mental fatigue. It was not exactly the weekend being it was a Friday. I am not sure but I understand why people leave the game based on rounds like this one.
Alhambra Municipal Golf Course
Played On 12/05/2017Great Place to Play!!!
I consider Alhambra GC my home course. It is great because it is well kept and the staff is very friendly. Don't let the length of the course put you off because there are some good challenges on this course for the intermediate golfer. There are some repairs being done to some parts of the fairway but they have been marked off. The restaurant "Birdies" has great food. This is a course worth checking out.
El Dorado Park Golf Club
Played On 11/21/2017Not a 5 star rating but 5 hours rounds with 5 somes!
Visually El Dorado is a nice course but the pace of play was horrible. Two fivesomes went out before our group of four. This added to the fact that two people in my group were flat out bad golfers. So this leads to 5 hour round on a weekday!
The course is a good challenge for an intermediate golfer. The course has carts with GPS which worked well. Based on the number people who were going out they need to have a starter.
I am not sure if I will ever go back. I made need to let this experience subside.
Azusa Greens Country Club
Played On 11/20/2017Nice golf course with potential!
The course layout is simple and fun. The staff was nice and the amenities were good! The problem I see is the fairways had the patches bad grass that grows tall and is hard to hack out when you are near the green. Another problem is the course has no boundaries from the adjacent streets. People wander on to the course taking a leisurely stroll!?
The fairways are bit hard and your ball will roll forever. I felt I was getting more distance on my drives! Most of the greens were in good shape.
I will most likely go back but I find it hard to believe if the course will ever improve.
Altadena Golf Course
Played On 10/10/2017Nice place to play a quick 9!
Nice place to work your game. Pretty open before 3 PM most days. The greens are fast but burnout in places on some holes. The fairways look good but with dry areas in spots. They finally cleaned up the trees that fell a few years ago behind the green on number 7. They have brand new carts. The cart I was driving was really nice.
The range is short and has no numbered targets. I do like the fact the grass day is every day and they have trees on the range.
I never been to the restaurant or bar other than to buy some water.
This course is a good challenge for most golfers but may not have the elegance that some may require.
Royal Vista Golf Club
Played On 09/22/2017Tee time booked to close to tournament!
My tee time was at 1 PM and when I arrived and I discovered there was a tournament that was teeing off on the same course at 12:30 PM. Well, it goes without saying, everything eventually was backed up. The day could have been great but our group was standing on the tee box waiting on all the holes and it got longer and longer. I got a few birdies that put a smile on my face but it was still hard to get thru the round and the wait made me lose my focus. I didn't know whose idea this was to book a golf round so close to a tournament start time but it left me not wanting to return, which is sad because I think this a challenging course that I would like to frequent. I might have to wait awhile to shake this off before returning.
Alhambra Municipal Golf Course
Played On 07/25/2017A great place to learn and enjoy golf!
Alhambra GC is where most intermediate players should spend to hone their skills as a golfer. There are a lot of scoring holes like 3 and 4 but some challenging holes like 6 and 13. Long hitters still can find value in the course by not using a driver on every par 4 or 5. Most of the staff is friendly and helpful! Students (under 18) can play for a dollar! I recommend this course for the average golfer who wants to learn how to score!
