Breakfast Hill Golf Club
Played On 08/30/2017Top End
Pricy but still a good value through Golfnow. Mostly straight and narrow treelined fairways. Greens are short, fast and beautifully maintained, groomed traps, lush fairways, smooth cart paths. Definitely a few marks higher than most public courses.
Crystal Lake Golf Club
Played On 07/14/2017Much improved
Like most local courses the weather has been perfect for greenskeepers and Crystal Lake is no exception. Compared to two or three years ago the course is playable now, with very good greens. Several hidden carries for a challenging round.
Granite Fields Golf Club
Played On 07/10/2017Level course with mostly forced carries
Played a couple weekday rounds here in the past few weeks. Most holes require a shot over water or tall weeds. Greens and traps are well maintained. Fairways and rough are mostly "firm" so allow for roll overs. Senior discount, $2 dogs in the clubhouse, free bottled water on 1 and 11.
Stow South at Stow Acres Country Club
Played On 09/12/2016Still needs work
Great value using Golfnow. That being said, its probably the most technical course I've played this summer but the greens had been aerated a few weeks ago and there were quite a few bare spots and ball marks. Played in a foursome on a Monday afternoon but let several single players and a twosome thru which wrecks the pace. fairways and traps are above average, even close to the greens the rough is long, uncut and very grabby. Sparse yardage markers. Practice green is nice, driving range not so much. Will probably go back soon for the challenge.
Crotched Mountain Golf Club
Played On 09/06/2016Challenging Course
You will use every club, the holes are that diverse. Tight tee shots, bunkered greens. 11 and 12 are confidence builders then 13-17 wreck your game. Fairways and greens are in good shape for local conditions. Tee boxes not so much.
Exeter Country Club
Played On 08/29/2016Much better than a year ago
The greens are fast and in good shape. Fringes and most of the fairways have come back nicely, huge improvement over exactly one year ago, especially with the drought. bunkers raked, all in all an interesting course layout, mostly blind shots to the greens so you'll want to play twice. Got around in under 2 hours on a Monday.
Loudon Country Club
Played On 06/27/2016Whats expected
Wide fairways are playable but wilting quickly. Small tight greens are long and slow but in good condition. Gravel cart paths but not a terrible ride. Looked like a tough walking course. Some interesting holes, mostly straight forward with plenty of elevation changes. Don't remember ever hitting a tee shot over a public road intentionally before. Will play again soon.
Townsend Ridge Country Club
Played On 06/15/2016Nice course
Greens are best in two years, aerated about six weeks ago. Fairways starting to wilt in the heat but still very playable. Mostly treelined fairways making for tight tee shots. Play the fade on par five fifth for a good runout to reach in two. Eight and thirteen will get your attention.
Ellinwood Country Club
Played On 06/06/2016Very good day
Threesome, got around in 4 hours. Greens are the best i've seen this year. These route 2 foothills courses are among the best in new england. Ellinwood is usually a fast paced but bumpy ride with an excellent layout. Plenty of elevation and distance, tight but forgiving par threes. big course, so a few bare spots but very well-maintained otherwise. A good ride, rte 2 moves along quickly, will be back thanks to Golfnow!
7/22/16: fairways are burnt now, mostly acres of dry grass, open ground and lots of rock. Greens are still in very good shape, not too fast. Difficult finding improved lies, so its a different swing til the grass comes back.
Westminster Country Club
Played On 06/03/2016What you expect
Typical hilly layout. Greens, tees and bunkers in good shape; fairways ok. Rough getting longer. Twosome, played in 3.5 hours on a friday afternoon. Rough cart ride, mostly walkers. I'll be back.
Gardner Municipal Golf Course
Played On 05/19/2016Becoming a favorite
Have played several times on weekdays with no delays. Friendly staff, friendly golfers, most walkers stay on the front nine. Greens, traps, tee boxes in good shape. Grain cut on the fairways. Good layout, nice views.
Exeter Country Club
Played On 09/06/2015Burnt to a crisp
Fairways and roughs are burnt to nothing, greens were better. Lots of ground under repair including a sand trap on seven that just needs weeding. Can't describe how terrible the fairway conditions are, not one decent lie all day. Worth the $30 on Golfnow....maybe.
Breakfast Hill Golf Club
Played On 09/03/2015Manageable first time
Straight forward design, no hidden shots. Fairways, greens and traps are well maintained. Some treelined narrow spots add to the difficulty but you won't hear "fore!" all day. Professional staff. Gladly replay it.
Crotched Mountain Golf Club
Played On 08/10/2015Note the slope rating
Super deal on Golfnow is the reason we went. Small SMALL greens and slope rating make a difficult day for the newcomer. Very challenging layout in above average condition. Nice location and amenities. Will definitely go back soon.
The Crotch was sweet today for a late fall course, greens are mint, fairways clear of leaves too, but plenty still on the oaks. Holes 2,7,13,15 &17 blind tee shots have to be straight up the middle, 15th green rolls off sharp right.
