Mystic Golf Club
Played On 08/16/2019Not worth the pricetag
Played yesterday in a money match versus my friend from the Brantford area. Our tee off was set for 9:50am. First impression of the course: I noticed that there was a very tiny clubhouse. I went in to settle up with the pro shop attendant, he said range balls were not included with the round which was a minus. $75 for a round deserves complimentary range balls. After dishing out $5 extra for a small bucket making my round $80.46 total, I proceeded to the range. It was in good shape, however, the post with yardages wrapped around I experienced difficulty reading. A replacement with a flat sign + posted yardages is needed. After finishing the basket, I went to the practice green and saw holes without miniature flags inserted (on both greens). The starter was attempting to get us out in a foursome (our other twosome backed out morning of), I attempted explaining to him that our match was for money and I drove all the way from Barrie; he replied "I don't care you have to go as a foursome". Thankfully, we ended up going at our scheduled time and played as a twosome. Before even hitting a ball off the first tee, my impression of this course was subpar at best. On the course, there is a handful of holes that I would consider to be gimmicky. A majority of greens were in rough shape as soft spike marks and ballmarks galore that I had to repair prior to putting. Maintenance needs to take these thoughts into consideration and make future pin placements away from these areas of concern! On hole #4 my second shot found a area of ground that was NOT marked as ground under repair, although it should be staked/roped off/spraypainted (approximately 140 yards away from the green on the right hand side). It looked like a bunker that was getting removed or fixed. My partner made me play it as it lied since there was no marking, that could have proven to be costly but thankfully it wasn't. In conclusion, despite winning my match, the initial feeling of Mystic Golf Club is that GolfNorth has once again taken a property and refuses to implement proper maintenance. Since there is no real formal clubhouse, this course should be $45-50 max with a cart for a green fee. I have played a handful of other courses within the local area which are superior to this track. The layout is but some additional TLC is needed from maintenance + proper first impressions go further than one may think!
Horseshoe Resort - Valley
Played On 08/10/2019Avoid!
I booked a Golfnow twilight round at the Valley Course with hopes that it would live up to the "unique 18 holes" that Skyline Resorts boasts for it to be; however, this course has deteriorated from good quality since I last played (spring 2018) to virtually unplayable for all types of golfers! In the three holes I played before realizing that it was nowhere near worth the price tag of $50, I experienced unkept tee boxes (all 3 holes), a entire fairway that should be marked as ground under repair (#2), and putting greens that were full of dead grass patches and dirt (all 3 greens). With that being said, the Director of Golf should highly consider closing the course for the remainder of the season and focus on getting it up to standards for the 2020 season. As for the 2019 season, do not waste your time or money here! The lack of maintenance shows and better value/quality of golfing experience exists elsewhere within the local area!

Innisfil Creek Golf Course
Played On 08/03/2019One and Done
Booked a twilight round at this track for the first time with reasonable expectations. The pro shop employee gave me pointers of what kind of course it was which was nice prior to tee off. The Bad part: he mentioned that I needed a GPS as yardages are incorrect out there on all 18 holes...why they don't address that issue and make a priority to fix it is beyond me. There was plenty of yellow grass spots in the rough; greens showed that it is a public course as moon craters from lack of ballmark repair was on every green making putting very unenjoyable, especially on those birdie chances. Pace of play was BRUTALLY slow, it seemed like this course was a magnet for weekend hackers as I was waiting 5-9 minutes between shots. Pace of play enforcement and some additional maintenance will bring this course back up to par where it needs to be for the pricetag. It has a nice layout could be fun for all varieties of golfers, Unfortunately, you can find better bang for your buck and playing experience within the local area.
Tangle Creek Golf & Country Club
Played On 07/04/2019Looks can be deceiving
This course has gone from pristine to a mediocre commercialized money grab in the last couple of years. Tee decks were in the worst shape I have ever seen them, greens were rolling reasonably fast but public players do not repair ball marks which makes putts full of landmines leading to bumpy rolls. The course needs to reconsider layout, elevation changes make mid handicap golfers struggle. A major problem that I encountered specifically for the round was no pace of play enforcement + a in-cart GPS that would constantly advertise and not display how many yards to the hole after pressing the screen multiple times! In terms of cost relativity for what you receive at Tangle Creek, I would rate it a C+ to D- at best on the golfer report card. Better value exists with other courses in the area.
I want to apologizes for the experience at the club. We strive to exceed everyone expectations and failed to do so in your visit. We have maintenance practices in place to ensure conditions are consistent throughout the season. Tees decks are aerated yearly to maintain the conditions. We do have a recommended tee program in place to help with the play ability for all players. Thanks for your comments and feedback. I wish I had an opportunity to address it when you were at the club. Contact me directly if you would like to experience the club again in the future.
The Rock Golf Club
Played On 05/18/2017#1 In Muskoka
For a public course, this is second to none in the Muskoka area. Never in golfing life have I seen such beautifully manicured fairways, equal cut rough, flat tee decks, true rolling greens on all 18 with minimal ballmarks. My hat is off to all maintenance crew for making this track look so picturesque. Some holes even offer a sense of peace and serenity; other holes will literally take your breath away (for better or for worse). One thing I suggest: make sure you bring a GPS as there are some blind shots on certain holes. This course is a must play on golfers bucket lists!
Brockville Country Club
Played On 05/12/2017A little sickened...
I was a member of this course for a decade + am not ashamed to mention the following regarding the course. Greens: the practice green was evidently faster than the actual greens. Course conditions: very soggy and not enough areas spraypainted as ground under repair, especially where there was visible signs of maintenance equipment that affected current shots [Golf Canada Rules don't permit movement of ball?]. Lastly I found it absolutely repulsive that the course record is hung directly above the mens changeroom urinals. Grant the best round yet to be played where it deserves to be, in plain sight to both men and women!
Heritage Hills Golf Club
Played On 04/18/2017First Time Experience
The fairways were soggy but in good shape, sand bunkers were hit and miss (some were maintained, some washed out). With the winds howling, some holes played extremely long. The course should take note of that and move the tee decks based on weather conditions in the future for pace of play purposes. Fortunately I played when hardly anybody was out. Greens were running slow and felt grainy. I am not sure if they mow them down by peak season but they are in need of grooming. The only major complaint: the flag locations were tournament Sunday locations; to elaborate, some of them in ridiculous spots. I am almost a single digit handicap so I could only imagine how difficult it would have made it for recreational players. Overall it is fair in terms of value but it wouldn't hurt if they shaved 5-10 dollars off for a green fee for this time of the season.
Rolling Hills Golf Club - Classic
Played On 07/05/2016even at 28 dollars, not worth the money
extremely disappointing first time experience. this property is NOT up to Clublink standards by any means and I stand very firm on that! 2 hours and 50 minutes to the 12th hole? Marshal finally came up and I inquired why pace of play was not emphasized, he claimed that it was a good pace if that was the case. On a course where par 3s rule, I firmly disagree as did my playing partner. The cart girl was seen ONCE all round and we had to actually yell at her to come over. Maintenance crew was also very disrespectful. My playing partner hit a tee shot which went astray, the maintenance worker doing pesticides around a tree told him to move his ball despite his vehicle obstructing his view. Do not waste your time on this course, better value exists.
This review is hilarious. Spike marks on greens are now a maintenance issue, nice. Pins get changed every day, would you like us to cut a new pin for every group? No 'miniature' flags on the putting green, you don't putt with the flag in. It's a PUTTING green. The fact that your partner made you play out of a very obvious ground under repair is also comical. When you show up as a twosome you should expect to be paired up, this isn't the PGA tour and we have a diligence to all customers to ensure pace of play is met, sending out multiple twosomes does not help especially a course as busy as here. As you can see looking at the other reviews yours is clearly an outlier. Thanks for commenting.
