About

After being bored and sick of playing the same overpriced courses over and over again I decided to branch out search for deals on the internet and go on golf trips all over the state with my friends. Here are my top courses throughout the state that I have personally played... and the price I paid. All of these courses are the courses that I have played so far that are worth doing at least once in your life, these courses are all hidden gems or top ranked courses in the state, there are no boring local courses on this list that everyone goes to because it’s their local course that is the only one in the area and that is cheap.

They ruined a good farm field when they built this course

Staff- nice and friendly, great staff

Course conditions- Terrible, not maintained at all.

Fairways- not mowed, long grass, patchy grass a lot of grassless spots

Bunkers- worst bunkers I have ever seen, there are no crisp edges to any of the bunkers. None of the bunkers were raked. The bunkers look like someone just dumped a bunch of sand on the ground in random areas.

Tee boxes- long grass and patchy areas just like the fairways not trimmed up nice at all.

Greens- were in good shape they look like some one actually pays attention to them.

Rough- Long and patchy, and full of dry mud. It looks like dried out farmland with some patches of long grass

Replica holes- This course is known for its replica holes. The 10th hole which is the famous 17th hole island green at TPC Sawgrass which is the best hole on the course. All the other replica holes just have parts of the original holes that are nothing special at all and often play minor roles in the hole itself.

Original price $75-90 Price I Paid $30 because of a deal on golfnow
Location is terrible, its in the middle of now where, there is nothing around this place besides the resort/condos across the street.

Conclusion- I drove 3 hours to this course and was alright with that because I only paid $30, if I paid full price I would have been outraged. The layout of this course is nice, but the grounds crew must have taken the year off because it was in absolute terrible condition. I always see this course on the top 10 list of courses in Wisconsin and this course being on the list is an embarrassment to the other courses on the list. Nice staff, but not worth full price, worth about $40 at most because of the poor condition of the course which has been a problem for some years now I've heard.

Must play in Madison Area

Staff- Great staff friendly and nice

Range- Top of the line range with nice practice balls

Tee boxes- nicely mowed and level

Fairways- neatly trimmed well maintained

Greens- A+++++ they just replaced all the greens on the course

Pros- Well maintained course
Offers some challenging holes
The course has large industrial size fans that blow leaves off some of the greens which will be great in the fall part of the season.
Cons- The course is a little boring
the course does not have a lot of holes with water obstacles.

Price I paid $60
Conclusion- This course is a must play I drove 2.5 hours and was not disappointed.

Other course in the area I recommend, Legend at Bergamont

Patchy fairways and rough

Staff- improved from my last visit to this course when I played the links course.

Tee boxes- Not level patchy grass
Fairways- patchy not well kept
Bunkers- no crisp edges, a lot of the bunkers are not raked
Greens- Beat up full of mud spots
Holes- There is a really nice elevated par 3 hole on this course which is there signature hole of the Woodland 18 holes and one of the better par 3 hole's I ever played. There is also another a nice split fairway hole with a shot over a ravine that sticks out to me.

Price I paid $55

Conclusion I would recommend trying this course but not for a price higher then $50 a person. The staff is hit or miss on this course, BUT DO NOT PAY FULL PRICE FOR THIS COURSE YOU WILL BE DISAPOINTED.

Expired soda, group hangout for staff,

Staff- Young non disciplined staff. Upon arrival to the course one of the employee that was working with the carts had his girlfriend sitting on his lap making out while on the clock. Upon entrance to the clubhouse my group waited at the counter while employees sat on a couch in the back room in clear view of myself and my group hanging out for about 5 minutes even after they observed us waiting at the counter. While on the course I was given an expired soda of about 6 months by the cart girl, I went into the club house at the turn to exchange the soda. This time I asked for a lemonade and noticed that even the lemonade was expired by 4 months, the bar tender then had to dig for a non expired drink and was not apologetic at all, which its not her fault but I think an apology was at least in order.

Course- In a little rough shape, (its the end of the year)
Fairways- were not the best kept
Greens- Must have been frozen that day which it was cold out but the greens could not hold a ball at all. Putts were rolling 20 feet bye on 7 foot putts.
Bunkers- were not raked and in rough shape
Carts- have a hand held range finder attached to the cart

I paid $60 and was disappointed

For other links course's I recommend Royal St. Patrick's over this course

Offers different shots

This course offers a variety of shots which is great. Offers a couple holes that has water in play. Has some shots where you hit over swamp land, some exciting par 3's. I drove about an hour and a half for this course, it was worth it. It's a course that is worth doing at least once in your life you will not be disappointed at all.

So So course

They offer a deal for about 45 dollars for 18. The course is in good condition offers a variety of shots, such as blind shots, hitting over water shots. Lacks "must play holes". There isn't a hole that stands out to me, that I have to come back to that course to play again because it is so awesome. I wasn't disappointed with the course at all, but I don't feel the urge to golf there every year. In conclusion the course is kept up its definitely worth doing it once and its worth a drive of about 45 mins to an hour but I wouldn't drive any further then that. Its one of those courses that is worth playing at least once, you wont be disappointed but you may or may not feel the need to come back again.

Great course worth the drive

I drove 2.5 hours to this course and it was worth it. The course is in great condition, it offers great challenges and a variety of shots. It offers shots of swamp land, over water, and 1 or 2 blind elevated shots. Great variety and challenges you to think 2 shots ahead, instead of the boring mundane hit the longest club in your bag over and over.

Great condition, but boring course

This course was in good condition, but its boring. I drove an hour to this course paid around $40. I wasn't disappointed with the course but I wouldn't drive the distance to golf there again and I have no problem driving hours to golf at certain golf course's. It's worth doing it once you will not be mad with what you paid but it may or may not be a course you love. In conclusion I did it once, I liked it, but not enough to golf there again.

Love this course

This a well maintained course that you can search for deals and play at around $40. This course curves through nice neighborhoods and has a lot of holes that involve water which I love. I drive an hour to this course and I'm never disappointed.

Your local everyday course

This is your typical local area course that just has local area golfers golf it. Its not worth driving out of your way to this course. But if you live in the area its a cheap course to get some swings in at.
