About

Wow, time has certainly flown by. I've actually started playing the game of golf in 2017 and needless to say, I'm hooked. I'll travel just about anywhere to play, as long as the group I'm playing with has a good time.

I'm constantly evolving and learning the finer nuances of the game. I'm a Metro Atlanta resident that loves to play. I have an immediate goal of lowering my Handicap from 16 to less than 10 by the end of the 2019 Golf Season. I know that's a big goal, but I do feel it's attainable.

I'm open to learning more about the game and love to pass on the knowledge that I've gained over my short period of time.

The Frog

This is my 6th time playing The Frog and I have to admit that this will most likely be my last time playing in the Winter/Offseason months. To be transparent we did experience a big rainstorm a few days before I played the course and overall it was reasonably dry. There were a few spots where you could feel and see parts of the fairway somewhat saturated from the last rain.

Check-in was quick and efficient. Bryce checked me in and let me know that it was Cart Path only for the day and was very helpful in alerting me that the pace of play may have slowed down a little. Grabbed the key to the cart and a bag of range balls to warm up.

The starter alerted me and my playing partner to approach Hole 1 and off we went. Overall the Fairways were dry but you could see where the grass had washed up on the Fairway and in some shots, your ball would sit above or below your feet.

Now once you were on the Greens this is where I was not pleased with a lot of Divots on the Greens that weren't repaired and just patchy spots on the Greens. The Putts didn't roll smoothly but were rather bumpy on the way to the cup.

We had a couple of very slow 4somes in front of us and no Ranger to help keep the pace of play consistent. A slower Pace of Play, Bumpy/Patchy/Divot filled Greens and subpar Fairways led to a less-than-impressive Round. Also not to mention that for many of the Bunkers, we saw, Sand was missing and you could see where the Rain pretty much washed the Sand out of the Bunkers or made them hard as a Rock.

If they improve in those areas The Frog will be back to its normally good condition. Will I play it again, maybe on my way to RTJ but I won't be making any special trips to Villa Rica just to play The Frog. I will exercise some optimistic patience and hopefully, the Course Super will make things right.

Good Course

This was my first time playing John A. White 9 Hole course as they have recently renovated all their Bunkers and Greens. The course was wet from all the rain and the greens were very slow. In my opinion, this is not a bad or terrible thing as the greens have just been installed and the course reopened on 8/19. With some time to mature and heal, the greens will be fantastic.

Playing the course is fairly straightforward as you open with a Par 5. I thoroughly enjoyed playing the course as it will allow you to work on your shots with your Irons and Hybrids. You definitely have to manage your play on this course. I can't wait to come back and play once the greens firm up and the fairways are drier.

One more thing, I love the fact that on the range warming up they have a cover that can protect you from the elements. Pretty cool to get loose before your round. I highly recommend you check out John A. White's course.

Seen Better

I typically don't give Fair or Poor reviews on Golf courses but I have to say that Callaway Garden's Lake View course was a tremendous disappointment. When I booked the course, it did not mention the Greens were being Aerated nor the overall condition of the course.

We arrived and checked in at Callaway and the attendant Brian was accommodating and friendly throughout the check-in process. There was no mention that the Greens on the Lake View course had been Aerated and the overall condition of the Fairways, Tee Boxes, and 1st Cut off Fairway was not in good shape.

We noticed that when we arrived at the First Tee, there was a group of 4 somes lined up, well to our surprise the Mountain View course was closed, and they had everyone playing on the Lake View course. No one mentioned this information at all.

As we Tee'd off and made our way to the Greens, we discovered that they had just been Aerated. After playing RTJ's Grand National courses (which are in Awesome shape) I had the same expectation that Callaway wouldn't disappoint, but boy was I WRONG. I don't mind playing a course that's been Aerated if given proper notice and the fee to play the course is Reduced obviously.

We contacted the Pro Shop and were given the option of receiving a free 9 Hole Round or coming back to the Pro Shop to receive a Refund and find somewhere else to play. We decided to cut our losses and turned around on the 2nd Hole to go get our Refund.

I'm not sure if I'll ever come back to play Callaway as this has left a very sour taste in my mouth. Brian at the Pro Shop was definitely great to work with, but it would've been an enjoyable experience if Callaway was Open and Upfront about the Maintenance and Upkeep of the course.

Nice Round

Nice course to play. The Front 9 had some interesting holes where you definitely had to use every club in your bag. The Back 9 was more open where Driver was in play but the elevation changes made you carry additional club length on your shots. My only issue I had with the course itself were that the Bunkers were unplayable on most of the holes. If they add some new sand the course would definitely move into my top 5 in the area.

Overall a pretty good track to play!

Great Course

This is my 3rd time playing Chicopee Woods and it's a course that I highly recommend to any golfer of all skill levels.

The course is in fantastic shape and dare I say that it reminds me of some courses on Robert Trent Jones (RTJ) Golf Trail in Alabama. Chicopee has three 9 hole courses to play on. Each course (IMO) has challenging holes that test your shot-making abilities. Multiple sets of tees to play from and my suggestion is that you play from tees that you can score from. It may take you a few visits to get used to the layout as there are some Dogleg holes and some that are fairly straightforward.

The courses are well maintained with the Fairways in great shape. I will tell you that the 1st cut off the Fairway can either help or hurt your shot. Some shots were slowed down by the thickness of the cut and others were helped to take away from OB shots.

The Greens were in great shape overall. Plenty of Rangers on the course to help keep the pace of play (even though) there was a slower 4 some in front of us. Definitely coming back to play the course in the next few days.

Unfortunately my Last Time!!

The staff at St. Marlo is a friendly and welcoming staff. Due to the number of golfers that day, by the time I checked in around 3:50 PM they were all out of Range Balls. This is the 2nd time this has happened here but no worries. Pace of Play was rather slow even though we were playing so late in the day. My Tee time was at 4:54 PM. The course in my opinion and especially the cart paths needs a lot of work and attention. The Greens were very soft (and I suspect) that the previous day showers had minimal effect on it. There were numerous unrepaired divots on every green.

The most troubling portion of my round were the Bunkers and Greens that were poorly managed and didn't seem to be maintained whatsoever. I've included a few pics of some of the bunkers and it just left a terrible taste in my mouth. Sad to see this course look the way it does, as I truly feel this could be a very pristine course. Needless to say, this is my last time playing this course, unless someone wants to pay for my Round. I hope St. Marlo is able to turn it around until then I wish them good luck!

St. Marlo Greens

This was my 5th time playing St. Marlo and I've noticed that the course is not in bad or terrible shape but let's just say that certain portions of the course could definitely be improved.

I'll start with the Check-in process. Checking in was simple and efficient but I've noticed that the Pro Shop is not stocked like it used to be when I've played there before. There were not a lot of options as there have been in the past with apparel nor clubs. I did notice a sign that they had Cleveland wedges On Sale. I didn't see any out in the open (or rather I didn't look for them either.) After checking in went to the range to warm up a little before my round. To my surprise the range was empty. I thought that was unusual for St. Marlo as this is a popular course to play. Was greeted by the Marshal and warmed up.

The greens and chipping area were in great shape and this is a typical indicator of what's to come when you play the course. Met with my playing group and headed off to the 1st Tee. I found it a little unusual that the grounds crew were out mowing the fairways during the middle of the day. We teed off at 12:45 PM, so I expected the grounds crew to be out of sight at this point. I must admit that the fairways looked to be in excellent shape. As we approached the first green, I noticed that there were bare spots along the edges of the greens and a plethora of weeds along the fringe. For a course of this magnitude, I didn't expect to see this. This was a recurring theme on the Front 9.

My playing partner commented several times that they didn't expect to see this and also the Greens were sandy as well. The pace of play was great as we were the only group out playing. I'd also like to mention that it did rain in the morning and we were Cart Path only? I found this very odd, as I'd expect the drainage of the Fairways to adequately handle the rainwater. We also noticed that it was very soft and wet around the Greens as well. So there wasn't a lot of run out on your approach shots onto the Greens.

We finished our Round in about 4 hours. Will I play St. Marlo again, not sure when there are so many additional options to play in the North Atlanta area. Hopefully St. Marlo can get there Greens in Championship shape throughout the course. Hope this review helps.

Great Time at Omni Amelia Island

Found an excellent deal on Golf Now to play The Omni Amelia Island resort Oak Marsh course. I do want to stress that you have to enter via Security (which was no problem, I gave the Guard my Last name and Tee time.) Upon arrival, you are greeted by the Valet's that place your golf bag on your cart. From there the check in process was very quick and efficient. Directly across the street from the Pro Shop is the area where you can warm up and practice on the putting green.

The Marshal calls you by your last name to begin your round and checks your receipt. Pretty standard stuff here, I asked about the overall condition of the greens on the course and he told me to stay pin high and that was most certainly the case. Now playing in Georgia where we have many elevation changes is quick different than playing on flat fairways for about 95% of the course. Obviously no complaints from me at all. I was paired with a group of great guys that actually lived on the course. They were very helpful in identifying areas to avoid that were hidden from the naked eye.

All the Tee boxes were in excellent shape and the fairways rolled true and fast. If you haven't played this course before some of the bunkers were not that deep and actually had a mixture of particles from the Marsh which made it very easy to get out. All the Greens rolled firm and fast with some slight undulations on each one.
It took a few holes to get used to the speed of the greens but I was thoroughly pleased. The Wildlife, Marsh and overall scenic views of the homes made the course fantastic to play. We finished our round in about 3 1/2 hours and I enjoyed myself so much, I decided to play an additional 9 holes.

I do want to caution you that during the afternoon you could feel the wind coming across the course on various holes which could significantly alter the flight of the ball. Great job by the Pro Shop staff and I will definitely play the next time I'm in town.

Lake Spivey on the Rise!!

This was not my first time playing Lake Spivey but I must admit that I'm impressed with the direction the course is taking compared to the previous years.

I treated my Dad with a Round of Golf for his Birthday and specifically chose this course because he doesn't play Golf that much and I knew the Layout and Course would suffice for his game.

Check in was very efficient and the Staff member was very welcoming. We began our round with a 30 minute head start on the group of Seniors who play the course frequently. There are 2 critical areas that I look for when I play, 1. How are the Greens, and 2. Are the Tee Boxes in good condition. The Greens at Lake Spivey had recently been punched and we didn't figure this out until we reached the Flag on the first hole. Putting was really bumpy but I can tell once the Greens heal they should roll smooth and true.

Overall the course is in Average shape, some Fairways in need of overseeding and other areas as well. For the amount I paid, the course was about what I expected. I can definitely see brighter things for Lake Spivey as we move deeper into Spring and not receive as much rain.

I will definitely play Lake Spivey again, once the weather is more consistent.

Hidden Gem

I've played Reunion a few times before but I've always played the Front Nine only. I had an opportunity to play 18 today (March 7, 2019) and it was a great day. My original Tee time was pushed back about 20 minutes due to the frost conditions. The guys in the Pro Shop are top notch and one of the things that I truly enjoy about Reunion is that while you are warming up, they announce your tee time and when you should head over to the 1st Tee to begin your round. You don't have to worry about guys sitting around the 1st Tee. The starter takes care of that and checks you in right before you Tee off.

The course is in really good shape considering all the rain that we've received since December 2018 and quite frankly most of the Winter. Fairways were in good shape, Tee Boxes were in good shape, the Greens were in pretty good shape (even though the rolled slower than expected.) The only portion of the course that needs some immediate maintenance (and this is no fault to the Grounds crew) the bunkers. The rain has pretty much washed large portions of the sand away, and with the bunkers drying up, it's almost like you're hitting off concrete. I know one simple way of alleviating this issue, and that's by keeping the ball out of the bunkers!!

Overall I had a great time playing the course as I feel the Front Nine is really warming you up and when you make the turn, this is where the course shines. Holes 13 - 15 will definitely test your accuracy. I recommend buying a Yardage book from the Pro Shop before your round. I'll definitely be back to play the course more frequently. Excellent staff, Excellent course for the Value. Can't wait to play as the weather becomes more consistent. Hope this review helps.

Improvements

Went to Golf.now to find an early Tee Time and decided to try Collins Hill. I read some reviews before I finally booked the Tee time and went ahead with it. Upon arriving at the course, noticed that some of the grass needed to be mowing. Not a big concern initially as the area had received lots of rain. Checked in and headed over to the range. I need to mention that I let the guys at the Pro Shop know that me and my playing partner were only playing 9 holes. He said no problem, told us to come in and get our receipt for the Rain Check to finish the back 9.

Get the cart, head over to the Driving range which is nestled in between the 10th and 18th Holes. A little different than what I'm use too, but we warmed up. I figured since we are only playing 9 holes, and no one was on the Back 9 we figured we'd start playing the Back 9. Well as we approached the Greens on the 10th Hole, the Golf Marshal came over and told us we had to start on the Front 9. Didn't really understand why but we did. I can tell you that the Fairways were in need of being mowed as well as the Tee Boxes.

I noticed that most of the Bunkers were in terrible shape, they either had no sand and just dirt with Grass and Weeds growing in there. The Greens we somewhat soggy as well from all the rain. They were slow and I noticed lots of divots on them. I guess the reviews I read were true. I could tell this use to be a really nice course, but over the years the wear and tear has taken it's toll on the course and there are other options to play golf in this area.

Overall, if you want to work on your game and the quality of course doesn't matter, then this is the place for you. If you are looking for a course that can display it's beauty and well manicured, then unfortunately Collins Hill doesn't quite fit the bill. I'd give this course 2 out of 5 stars. Like I mentioned earlier it all depends on what you are attempting to accomplish playing at Collins Hill.

We appreciate your patience. We apologize for the course not meeting your standards, but as you mentioned in your review, we had over 5 inches of rain in the week before your tee time. The course was too wet to get all areas mowed. We hope you will come back when the weather is more conducive to proper course maintenance.

UGA Welcome Home Round!!

Well I had the pleasure of playing UGA's Golf Course for the very first time. I'm a UGA Alum and thoroughly enjoyed my round on Saturday, February 24th. I found a last minute deal on Golf Now. Once arriving at the course, check in was very easy and the staff was friendly. I let the Pro Shop know that I'm an Alum and was able to procure the Alumni weekend rate. Pro Shop was filled with all the UGA Paraphernalia that you can want for a Golfer. I purchased the Yardage Book and also a Switchblade Divot tool as well.

Once I finished up in the Pro Shop, I proceeded to the get my cart and head over to the Driving Range to warm up. The Range facilities were in excellent shape and the range attendant directed me to the 2 Chipping areas along with the space to warm up. Once I was finished on the Range, headed over to the 1st Tee to check in with the Ranger.

I was paired with a threesome who had played the course before and gave me tips on the various holes as we played the round. The pace of play was excellent (we only had to wait once on the Par 3 on the Back 9) as some golfers were Walking and others were using the carts. I noticed immediately that the first few holes were a warm up and the challenges of the course presented itself. You definitely have to be precise on your Tee shots and (IMO) take what the course gives you. I met a great group of guys playing my round and had an excellent time!!

My advice is to book a round at UGA and have fun. I will definitely return with my normal playing crew or even Solo. Always good to come home to Athens!

Stone Mountain (Stonemont)

Now, this review is not meant to turn business away from the 2 Courses at Stone Mountain but as much as I play golf I expect to receive a proper heads up when I check in on the Course Conditions, Pace of Play, and Facilities. Checking in was easy and the staff at the Pro Shop were very helpful. Being that this was my first time playing the course, I was given directions to the course and the Practice Facility. I purchased a small bucket of balls to warm up. We left the Pro shop and hopped on the Golf cart and headed to the range. The 1st Tee box was close to the Range which made things very convenient.

As we approached the 1st Tee Box, on first glance, the course looked to be in great shape and the course was until we reached the Greens on the 1st Hole. We noticed as we arrived at each Green on the Stonemont course it looked as if either fungus or something left big patches on the Green. It looks as if someone stripped parts of the Green and left bare spots. I took a couple of pics to add to the review. It would've been nice if someone from the Pro Shop gave us a heads up about the course conditions on the Greens.

We also noticed as we played on some holes, the grass was very soggy as if the sprinkler system was left on, to slow the ball down. I noticed this as you walked up to the green and couldn't really figure this out because on some holes there was no water nearby. We really didn't notice it on the first 3 holes but when we arrived at the 4th hole as we approached the Green our shoes were wet (the grass was really soft and mushy) and noticed some mud on our shoes as we walked onto the Greens.

We noticed this trend on the next 3 holes as well. Along with the additional Fungus or whatever you want to call the large bare spots on the Greens. And yes it did affect our play as I hit one shot that bounced on the large empty patch on the green and dug in the ground pretty deep. The way the ball played you would've thought it had rained the night before and made the Greens really soft.
Other than the wet soggy grass approaching the Greens, and the patches on the Greens, the course was in pretty good shape.

I have to admit that the Fairways looked really nice, as the balled traveled pretty smooth on well-hit shots that land in the Fairways. The pace of play was Excellent as there was no one in front of us and the group behind us, was 2 holes away. We did notice that someone left Beer cans and a little debris on the 10th and 11th holes on the Back 9.

Will I play Stone Mountain again, probably, but if there are additional options I'll gladly look to book elsewhere first. Again, this review is not intended to speak badly on the Stonemont course, it's just what I experienced playing a round yesterday on 10/1/17.

Excellent Course

I had the pleasure of playing The Georgia Club for the first time on 8-6-17 with a friend of mine. From arriving at the Club through the Back 9 of the courses, we received top notch service. Once we checked in there were a few members that gave us advice on keeping the ball in the Fairway. The long grass will definitely make it a challenge to find your ball if you got outside of the fairway. You'll definitely have to make sure your Tee shots are online and in play in the fairway. I enjoyed the fact that the courses were all split up with 9 holes each to keep the pace of play rather efficiently. There were a few times when the group behind us caught up rather quickly, but this was due to a group playing a little slower in front of us. I definitely recommend that you play the course and make sure you keep the ball in the short grass.

One area that I would highly recommend The Georgia Club look into, is adding an additional Beverage/Food cart to the course. It did take a considerable amount of time to find a cart that we could purchase some beverages. Overall I definitely recommend playing The Georgia Club. I will return to this course very soon. Hope this review helps someone if you are hesitant on playing the course(s).

I had the pleasure of playing a round of golf at Smoke Rise Golf Club this past Saturday (June 3rd) and let me say that it's a pretty good course. Challenging is an understatement as most of the holes are either Elevated or sit down low. You tee off on the first hole going down a slight incline with the hole around the bend to the right.
Playing this course you'll have to definitely trust the feel of your clubs and your Tee shots will need to be EXACT. Some holes you don't want to touch your Driver but make your 3 or 5 Wood your best friend.

Pace of play was not too bad when we played but I definitely recommend you get an early Tee Time or go later in the day. Warming up on the range was nice and the guys in the Pro Shop were very helpful.
