Golf Club at Cinco Ranch
Played On 01/29/2019No place like home course
This is my home course, and it never disappoints. The layout, greens and fairway are all well maintained. The fluffy sand was a surprise considering it has been pretty wet weather around here lately.
And an insider secret, the burgers are as good as Smash and 5 Gs.
Houston National Golf Club
Played On 01/28/2019Good golf: Cold weather and staff not a deterrent
The staffs lack of a greeting or eye contact was a reminder of why we golf. We golf to take a brief departure from the chill of the world. And GC of Houston does not disappoint once you get beyond the frosty desk agents.
From the undulated first tee, to the serpantine bayou of the last, this course is a challenging but appropriate test.
The greens roll fast and true, and the fairways and traps are good enough for an enjoyable round.
Bayou Oaks City Park South Course
Played On 12/04/2018The course to play when I come home
I have had the good fortune of playing this sport we love all over the world, and certainly throughout the U.S. Golf came to me in my 30s, so I didn't spend much time at all with the sport when I grew up in the crescent city. What I love about The South course is that it has all the charm of the city. The track itself is not perfection, but, it is a great place to play in a fantastic city. Let's face it, New Orleans will never be a golfing paradise. There is just too many other activities to indulge in. But, when your festivities are done, or before they start anew, this is a great way to unwind. The greens are pure. The bunkers have the fluffiest sand I have ever played in (not that you want to be in the bunkers too often). The fairways are well manicured. The layout is challenging enough. All this can be found at many golf courses, but what can't be found are those views of this unique city, and the Spanish moss hanging down from those Live Oaks f better than a hundred years in age. The Pelicans and other water and air fowl is a treat as well that sets this course apart. The pricing is high for the city, and no doubt set for an air of exclusivity. And the staff is wayyy too stuffy for a city known for its hospitality. But the most heartbreaking part is that this "city" course has no inner city youth playing on it! A huge miss in my opinion. All this notwithstanding, it is my favorite place to play when I return home.
Sharpstown Park Golf Course
Played On 06/23/2018Model Muni
I used to play Sharpstown all the time. They have come a looong way. Remodeled greens a few years ago, and they are holding up nicely.
Pace of play was good. Sometimes it can be pretty bad.
All in all a nice track with nice people running the festivities. And mostly laid back players. (Some clowns occasionally, but not today)
BlackHorse Golf Club - South Course
Played On 12/15/2017Great Time
The staff is friendly and helpful. There was even a car detailing station for reasonable pricing.
As for the course, I loved it. Challenging, but not a ball breaker, ahum, loser. In other words, lots of holes are tree lined, but am errored tee shot still gets you a play. And hole 16 and 17 are something special!
See you there.
We appreciate your 4-star rating and review. It is great to see you had an enjoyable time on the course and we hope you join us for another round soon.
