The employees are fine,. The practice facilities are good, but the course condition needs improvement. First of all, the fairways are too long. There is NO first cut of rough and no first cut around the greens. They obviously do this to save on labor costs. The traps are mostly hard packed and lack enough sand, which causes most average golfers to skull their shots. Your average golfer probably does not see these defects, but I have been playing for years and I am well aware of the situation. Paying over $100 to play under these conditions is a waste of money. This course is worth paying half that amount.

I have enjoyed playing this course for years, however, during the season the pace of play is horrible. Last winter, my friend and I walked off the course after eight holes due to the slow play. In the summer, the course is wide open and much more enjoyable,, with the exception of the slow greens due to summer Bermuda grass. I made a huge mistake booking a tee time over the Labor Day weekend. I quit after nine holes. Two other people in my group quit after eight holes. Some holes had three groups waiting to play. As I walked off the course, I ran into a group who had recently finished play. Their round was well over five hours. I believe the management is responsible for overbooking. I will never play this course in season, but will continue during the summer, with the exception of holiday weekends.

I quit after only two holes. The greens were uncut and so slow that putting and chipping was a total waste of time. The management was kind enough to give me a raincheck. Most of the courses in the desert allow their greens to grow longer due to the heat, but this was too much. I strongly suggest waiting for summer to end before choosing this course. Nice staff, but the greens caused total frustration.

Played On 08/03/2018Poor Services
Upon my arrival, there was no attendant available to take my clubs to a cart. I carried them down the hill planning to place them on a cart. No carts were available and no one was taking care of other customers. Some people went into the cart bar to get their own carts. Finally, the guy came out. He told me he was the only one working. I went to the range to hit balls and fill my water glass. The water was very hot and the ice machine was not working. I went to the first tee. There was no starter there. I could have played for free. The course isn't in the best of shape, however, this is standard mostly for summer. The greens were very slow and not very interesting. If you can play for under $30, it is worth it, but don't expect too much service. Perhaps the owners are having financial difficulty.

During Summer Desert courses have Bermuda grass, which is nowhere as nice as seasonal grass. The greens were recently aerified, which made them bumpy and slow, but this is standard for summer. Prices are much lower and the weather is really hot and uncomfortable. But hey, it’s a good course and well worth playing. The staff is great. I recommend playing here even if the conditions are off season.

This is a very good course, however, it was recently aerified. The greens are bumpy, untrue and not in good shape. Give it a few weeks and I’m sure it will return to decent shape.

I originally reserved a tee time for the Palm Course. When I arrived, I asked about the course condition and found out it was aerated two days ago. The greens would be bumpy and sanded. They offered to let me play their Valley course. This one was aerated two weeks ago. They said the greens were smooth, but slow. One side of the range was closed. The other side, while open, had not filled the ball containers. Most were filthy. The greens were way too slow and still had holes. I quit after two holes. Why didn’t they inform me of the conditions in advance? Plus, the greens keeper was mowing the grass around the green while I was readyvto make my shot. He did not stop. The cart girl approached me by driving towards me down the middle of the fairway. Very annoying. The traps are mostly hard caked dirt. I would avoid this place if you are a lower handicap player. If you don’t care about quality of conditions, it’s ok if you get a cheap rate.

I made a reservation to play the Palm Course and did not find out that it had been aerated until checking in at the pro shop. They told me I could play the Valley Course, which had been aerated two weeks ago. They said the greens still had some sand, but were smooth, however somewhat slow. I agreed to play. Big mistake. First of all, the greens were so slow that it was like putting on my carpet. They still had sand and had holes from the aeration. The sand traps were mostly made up of dirt that had hardened. On the second hole, the greenskeeper was mowing the grass around the green and did not stop while I made my approach shot or while I was on the green. The cart lady came driving down the middle of the fairway rather than to the side, which really annoyed me. The driving range was closed on one side, but the side that remained open had very few balls in the containers and most of them were filthy. I quit after two holes.

Played On 06/14/2018Player Friendly Sucks
Nice staff and good practice area, but this course is for players who prefer to avoid a challenge. The greens are flat with hardly any break. Fairways are very wide and present no challenge. Bunkers are dirt and dried mud. The rough is as short as the fairway. Low handicap players should choose the Pete Dye instead. If golf clubs are wondering why interest in the game is declining, player friendly is killing it.

Played On 06/05/2018This course presents quite a challenge. It has interesting shots and in good condition. Several greens have slopes which require planning shots carefully. Practice facilities are very good. Good balls and good grass to practice on. The views are spectacular.

The course is in pretty good condition, especially for the summer time. Most courses in this area, allow the greens to grow longer due to hot weather. The speed was still challenging. My only complaint is the 18th hole. It is not a good finishing hole. The staff is very friendly. I recommend this place.

Excellent course because it is one of the few public courses in this area that requires specific placement of your shots. For example, several greens have sloped areas that cause the ball to spin away from the hole if not played properly. My only complaint is the change they made to the 18th hole. They closed the old par five and replaced it with a 344 yard finishing hole. This is most disappointing. Other than this, the course is well worth playing.
Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort & Spa - Pete Dye Resort Course
Played On 05/14/2018Sand traps horrible
The sand traps are mostly dirt; not sand. There is a very light layer of cover over a compressed hardness. Average golfers probably would not care, but better players are well aware. My friend was even par for 17 holes until he landed in a trap. His club bounced off the hard surface into his ball causing it to fly over the green. It ruined his score. Also, several holes on the greens are convex around the pin. This causes a slower put to veer away from the hole. It is due to the greenskeeper not putting proper pressure when he inserts the cup. Once again, average golfers will probably not notice this. Still a good course, but it needs closer scrutiny.

Played On 03/01/2018Improved conditions
The previous time I played this course it was not in great condition, but it has greatly improved. The staff is excellent and very helpful. The practice facilities are quite good, as well. My o complaint is that the rough, which is bermuda grass, is shorter than the fairway. I greatly dislike "player friendly" conditions because it destroys the purity of the game in order to speed up play. I doubt the members of well known courses, would want their courses reduced to appealing to the lowest common denominator.. The fairways were fine and the greens were in good condition. The speed was a bit slow, however. Overall, it is a fun course to play, and should appeal to higher handicaps.

I played this course many times and it was always in good condition. Today, the fairways were burnt out. The greens were untrue, full of bumps and very slow. I don't know what happened in the past four weeks since I last played, but it was very disappointing.
