About
Been playing off and on for 40+ years. Got my wife hooked about 15 years ago and we try to get out at least once a week. We play 18 holes in 2.5 to 3 hours. Slow play drives me nuts. If you insist on playing a 5 hour round so be it. Just remember that those behind you might not be so inclined.

Baywood Golf & Country Club
Played On 03/16/2014Can be a little soggy in the winter
Beautiful course set back in the redwoods. Can be wet in the winter, so I would recommend playing at some other time if possible. One or two holes that I'm not fan of, but overall it's a very fun place to spend an afternoon.
Benbow Valley RV Resort & Golf Course
Played On 03/15/2014An interesting 9-holer
If your staying in the area, this little course makes it worthwhile to throw your clubs in the trunk when you pack for the trip. Tons of elevation changes that make club selection a little challenging. The one that sticks in my mind is a blind par 4 that has a bell at the halfway point. After you hit your second shot you ring the bell to let the group behind know that the fairway is clear. Needless to say, the serious golfer probably wouldn't be impressed, but someone out for a fun and somewhat unique round will.
The Hills Course at Red Hawk
Played On 02/23/2014Haven't had the best of luck here
We have played here twice and had issues both times. The first time they failed to tell us that a tournament was scheduled for that day and that we would be playing behind it. We got in 15 holes before it was too dark to play. No credit, no refund. It was just our loss.
The second time they didn't see fit to warn us that the course had been punched and sanded. With our early morning tee time with the heavy dew on the course the ball resembled a dirt clod and was all but impossible to hit solidly. Again our loss.
Have talked to friends that love the place, but I can't recommend it. If you are going to play there make sure that you nail them down on the situation and the course conditions.
The Golf Club Tierra Oaks
Played On 02/02/2014Love this place
This is a fun course that will challenge every part of your game. Elevation changes, tricky approach shots and undulating greens will keep you on your toes.
The course is laid out over a large area so there isn't much danger of collecting an errant shot from another fairway.
The only issue that the place has right now is that it recently underwent a management change. Hopefully, the course will survive. It's to good a test of golf to lose.
Quail Point Golf Course
Played On 01/05/2014An exceptional 9-holer
A 9-holer that feels like an 18. Normally, I'm not a huge fan of the short courses, but this one is different. A lot of elevation changes and well-maintained. On the southern outskirts of Medford it couldn't be much more convenient.
Bandon Trails
Played On 11/30/2013Definitely worth the drive
Have wanted to play Bandon since they first opened Bandon Dunes years ago. For a variety of reasons we never made it until this last Thanksgiving. We only got to play Bandon Dunes and Bandon Trails this time, but we intend to play Old MacDonald and Pacific Dunes this year.
It's a 4.5 hour drive from our home but it was worth every minute spent in the car. The Trails itself is worth the trip. The course is set back in the trees and is just flat-out gorgeous. We played it in 2.5 hours, which made it even better.
Dunes on the other hand didn't impress us as much. Maybe the 5 hour round had something to do with it. The highlight of the Dunes is number 16, a par 4 that runs by the ocean. That has to be one of the greatest holes I've ever seen. I could play that one hole 18 times in a row and I would call it an outstanding day of golf.
Bandon Dunes
Played On 11/23/2013Not quite what I expected
I have to admit that I was a little disappointed on my first visit here. Other than a couple of the holes, I wasn't as impressed as I expected to be. The facility itself is first class all the way and we will be going back to play the other courses, but probably not the Dunes.
The one hole that is a definite exception is number 16. That is one of the coolest golf holes that I've ever seen. I could play that hole 18 times in a row and call it a great day of golf.
Caddies are available and the one we had in our foursome was borderline useless. Was glad that I wasn't paying him. I've talked to others who had much better experiences though. So, if you chose to use the service just keep your fingers crossed.
