Play after 1 not the full rate at this time

First l was warned by contact a I have in the Golf industry in Gaylord the Tribute had issue in 2016 losing the ability to pump water for 5 days and considered not opening this year (this is not something I can say management truly considered,). The course was in rough spots in places, but considering last years problems I would say they did good job in bringing the course back from the edge (look at 2016 reviews). At this time i would play the twilight rate at $99 bit over priced for the current condition. The other issue and I was for warned the Otsego club had some issues with owner and the liquor license had not transferred as result we did not see refreshment cart the entire time. Fortunately purchased enough water and their were water coolers around the course. The one compliant I would have is the pro shop moved to the old pro shop closer to the Classic #1 tee and driving range which was better but way under whelming of a pro shop for course of this stature, I would have hoped they had made upgrades which they did not. In addition cart replacement or at least the replacing the seats, it seemed every cart seat had a tear. I would still go back in play because I love the layout.

Great course and must play

This is the second time I have played Black Lake and do love the course. My only comment is we received warning being off pace. We were off pace but I would mention there were 5 holes with pin positions that made it quite difficult and requiring many in our group to three putt. I don't mind tough pin positions but when you roll a ball almost up to the hole and rolls back to your feet that would suggest pin positions are in bad spot to keep up pace of play.

Put this on your list to play

When you look at the card from the White tees it will seem on the short side. Yes there are some short par 4's but not a direct shot. Par 5's from the tee present a blind shot more just from lack of familiarity and where to play you shot. Greens were in excellent condition. They rolled true and smooth with good speed. We played the white tees and easily could have played the blues. We played on group golfer coupon which limited us to starting after 11 on the weekend. But the course was not busy at this time and we moved very well.

Improvements from the past

It has been 10 years since I played the Natural. There has been improvements with Cart paths and overall course conditions. There was one hole on the back where it appears they have an old bunker and can't decide what to do with it (my opinion). Other than that the course was in the best condition since I played. If you want reasonable priced place to play in Gaylord area I would certainly return. This not going to have the viewing vistas of Treetops or Tribute but it is solid course. The only other issue was the person opening was late. Said couldn't let us on the course early. Wasn't the issue we were there early to hit some balls and get a little practice in.

Same as I remember

The course was in pretty good condition considering the area had rain every day for the last two weeks. The pro at desk said the course was on its way back after some green neglect (mold). The exception of sand trap on the back that I mentioned to the pro (when i said something he knew exactly what hole I was talking about) had no sand and had to pitch high to the green did not work out well. This course is under the management of the Loon and if you played the Loon they do know how to create good course conditions.

Links Style

Course is links style and we played right after women's NCAA tournament. Thick rough, greens that ran true and fast. We paid $25 due to Group Golfer coupon otherwise when I looked at the rates is was $49 a bit more than we paid due the coupon. But at $49, it would be worth the cost. Playing it for the first time it can be tough as you don't have good views of the fairway and can't see some of the landing areas.

Available tee times not good

Alright I did not play the course I attempt to make reservations 5 or 6 times and every time I did either course was closed or late tee time (live hour and half way). I had purchased group golfer coupon and could make a tee time. In part their website doesn't eliminate tee times that are used, they don't have calendar of events scheduled to let you know what days are available. I have had similar experience at Michigan State. One course I will cross off my list to play and never played before.

What can you say its Aracadia

Second time I played and it was great. If you more on budget for golf play on the Memorial, 4th of July or Labor day. Price goes down to $110. Nothing like being on the this course in the morning. Greens are very fast (we played after being top dressed very recently). When I say fast, like putting on hard wood floor. Make sure not to leave your chips or approach shots just on the green many false fronts and the ball will roll off. The only thing worst is to be in one the sand traps, especially one of those high wall ones. Also when you get to the 12th tee, tee one up and hit into the lake. Also the in the plans to build another course and more lodging.

Grande is place to play

I have played the Grande number of times. It has been few years since we played. It is still plays the same with undulating and true running greens and evaluation changes from tee boxes. Several blind second shots into greens and with the undulation best to miss in the right area. Now I said its been awhile since we played considering my rating on the course their must be an issue. In the past we have played in the afternoon taking advantage of more reasonable rates, unfortunately we did not enjoy the 5 to 6 hour rounds. This time we were the third tee time of the day, and played in just over 4 hours. My recommendation play early to avoid long waits. Part of the issue in the past for slow play as I remember tee times were 7 minutes apart, now appears increased to 8, 9 would be perfect. In addition lack of a ranger on the course. When we go back it will be in the morning.

Big Greens and lots of adulation. But they run true

We played this course originally the 2nd year it was open. The greens were hard to the point the ball would bounce off the greens with an approach shot. My second visit was far from the same experience. The greens were soft and ran true. Fairways were in good condition with the lack of rain. Rough was thick and could be difficult to get out of in places. Lack of paved cart paths is problem. My discussion with the Pro is this is being corrected over the next 12 to 24 months (being part of government doesn't happen overnight). If your aim is not near the flag its not uncommon to have putt 50 - 80 feet bring utility or wood to putt those. We did not have pace of play issue playing at 10:36. Although a group behind us was holding up the course. The staff was helpful and friendly. I would recommend playing again. Granted we played with group golfer for $25., weekend rate of $49 isn't bad, but seniors at $39 is great price. I would recommend playing the blended tees if you are someone who shoots under 50. Some shortest par 4's would make it more challenging from the tip or blues.

The Best at Boyne Highlands

Arthur Hills is just a great course. Start easy with shortest par 4 but you must decide how much to chew off with waste area to the right. The course starts off in the valley and then goes up the "Mountain". Must stop at the top of hole 13 and get a picture with your group. The 13th has forced carry so make sure you pick your tees correct at the start or you will be dropping a ball on this hole. The finishing hole is one of the greater risk reward holes. You can take the long way and take your par or drive down to the water and take the short cut for potential eagle. But you must hit a good next shot. The 10th hole is one that is toughest par 4 if you lack precision. Shortest par 4 to elevated green. Anything to the right of the green has potential to roll off. If you miss your second shot just plan on bogey and go on to next hole. My final thought is keep in mind where the mountain is as putting is challenge with this and the undulation on the green.

Heather - Robert Trent Jones course

At spots this course is extremely challenging and easy at others. The one consistent you can find is minimum of three large sand traps on every hole with exception of 3 of the Par 3's that have forced carry. This is difficult course to find your ball in the rough. This course is more strategic from the tee. Typical Donald Ross greens you must stay below the hole. If you are pin high or greater it is tough putt. You can be far more aggressive if below the hole. The difficulty to stay below the pin is most greens are elevated with sand traps guarding the greens.

Play some of the toughest holes Donald Ross designed!

This course starts hard and finishes easier. You want to play Oakland Hills 16th hole, it's the finishing hole on this course. The first 8 holes will test you. Appears easy starting first hole until you get to the green. Surrounded by big traps and one of narrowest greens I have every played. It doesn't get much easier. Easy 2nd hole from the tee until you have to take that second shot. Dime green uphill that slopes away from you. 3rd hold uphill par 3 with elevated green surround in the front with big deep bunkers with lots of sand. The first Par 5 over 500 yards long from orange tees, plan on driver, fair wood and another long club if your not a big hitter. The 10th hole by far one of the hardest holes if your not a straight hitter. Long par 4 with elevated dime size green. Make it three good shot hole and you might have chance at par. Play its sister course The Arthur Hills and you have had one great day of golf.

One course you need to play if staying at Boyne Highlands

Great course. Starts out with pretty easy par 4 as long as you don't take off more than you can chew of the sand trap or go right into the woods. The course conditions have improved as it has matured. Best hole is the Par 5 13th. Make sure you stop at the top and hit a drive. You might make the edge of the fairway. Great Par 5 finishing hole truly risk/reward hole. Hit it down the left side go for the green. Greens run nice and true. The only downside hole for me is the 10th with elephant hump green. Doesn't work for me not alot of landing area for short par 4 but plenty of sand to get you in trouble. Front 9 is starts easy and gets harder. Must play if your in upper Michigan. I recommend staying the resort and get stay and play packages as there are 3 more course to play at the Highlands.

Love the layout, hate Greens

This is great track. The course has 5 par 3's which when you look at the tees for orange are at 5900 yards. Trust me unless you can drive it 250 yards plus all the time is all the course you could ever want. My only issue is the greens. There is significant undulation and to keep them fair they are slow. Hole 2 green far too tricked up as well as 9 & 18 shared green. 18 has been improved but in my opinion both of these could be completely redone. They offer few pin placements. I still give this high recommendation with the changes to hole 16, 17 and 18 did a lot of improvements to the course feel. The views starting from 15 one are just perfect looking out to the bay. Of all the Boyne courses the staff are certainly the most friendly that is not to say they all aren't just better with exception of Bay Harbor. I can only recall one time I have played it slow play was an issue and the staff were quick to apologize after loosing track of the slow group.

White tees is all the golf you want!

The course is well maintained with the exception of the cart paths which have fallen in disrepair. The average player from the White tee markers will have all the course they want (average driving the ball 200 to 250 in play). It is demanding shot making but fair. We played just after it rained so the fairways were not fast. The greens were in excellent condition. The only problem I would have is on the 9th and 18th greens attract the geese and their droppings (for us greens still had droppings on them). The staff I wouldn't say were unfriendly but with the rain sure felt like we were an inconvenience and not necessaryily happy to see us. Due to the rain in the morning no one was in the snack shop. But no hot dogs or pre wrapped cold sandwiches available either. I would still recommend highly at the $41 we paid to play this course. It WILL TEST YOUR game. You need to think this course not pull out driver and blast away.
