Nice round on a warm October Day

I live very close to this course and tell myself that I should play it more often. Today I finally did.

The Red course is the easier course at Highland Park. Nothing fancy. Course was in OK shape (except for the bunkers which were awful). Greens rolled OK even though they showed signs of being punched somewhat recently. Rough was short which is fine on a course that gets lots of play by local players of all abilities.

Management has done a great job of bringing these courses back from the dead about 3-4 years ago. It would be GREAT if they could step up the course conditions a bit and fill out the Pro shop and food/drink experience. Then again, I only paid $2/beer so maybe keep that part.

Next year I will play it more. Maybe even join a weeknight league.

Cleveland Gem

Cleveland Metropark's does a great job with their golf courses. Manakiki is the star.
I played yesterday afternoon. For a senior (over 60 years old) I paid $35 (with cart0 for a tee time after 2pm. That is is incredible price for a great course.
The course is in tremendous shape. Greens were perfect even late in the day. Fairways are really good. The rough can be challenging. Some very scenic holes. Not an easy course but very playable.
If you live anywhere near it, you have to come play it.

great course in great shape

Play this course about once per year but always think that I should play it more. It's in great shape. The rough is gnarly but you have an intermediate cut between it and the fairway. Nice mix of long and short holes. The one hole that is a bit out of place is the #8 par 3. Today it played 207 yards from the middle tees (5900 yards). Either shorten the hole or make the green larger - really hard to hit from that distance. Staff is very friendly. Also a solid driving range.

Getting better but still needs work

I played here in the first time in roughly over a year. First the good news - Course has been spruced up (adding some tee markers and course info at the 1st tee), they've devised some hybrid tees (Blue/White) which makes up for a huge yardage between tee boxes (still to be rated by the NOGA), the greens were in good shape on most holes, the bunkers appeared to have been refreshed with more sand, and the price on a Thursday morning was very reasonable. Now the bad parts - many of the fairways are still in really bad shape (especially #10). Patches of no grass or mud. On #15, there is a huge rut running from the left side to the right side down to the pond. Some of the greens also had patches of dirt. There were also tee boxes that were basically dirt with clumps of grass. That's especially frustrating on Par 3s. I know that courses need where to put their money but bad tee boxes leave a bad memory. I believe that the course is under a new owner. Definite improvements have been made to it since the last time I played it. In the right condition, it could be great because the layout is interesting and makes you play different golf on different holes. Finally, the driving range remains poor.

Bunkers need attention

Chardon Lakes is an interesting course to play with some very challenging greens. #16-17-18 make for a very tough finish.

The course was in very good shape with the exception of the bunkers. Some had very little sand, some has a big pile of sand waiting to be spread out, some had enough sand play a shot, and some were simply marked "ground under repair" with grass growing in them. I don't remember them being like this last year. If they want to charge a higher price, they need to fix this problem.

Be aware that the driving range is up the road which means that you have to get tokens from the pro shop then drive back and forth to hit balls.

Feb golf in Florida

First time playing down here at this time of year. Grass was kind of spare and brown in areas. I guess that’s normal? I would like to see the course again when it was in very good shape.

Price seemed high ($75) for condition but again, I hear that is normal this time of year.

Warm up area is three artificial mats hitting into a net.

Tanglewood has gone downhill this year.

I've played this course twice this season. One in May and now this past weekend. The conditions in May were bad but it was a wet spring so I gave them a break. On Saturday, they were worse during a very dry period.

Problems - the fairway and rough look basically the same both in condition and height. Honestly, if you have to look hard on each hole to tell the difference. Many holes had multiple areas of mud fairway (#10 is a great example). The teeing areas are beat up. I had to laugh seeing fertilizer spread on wet dirt on tees. Greens were OK but again, there were multiple areas of dirt. Much worse than other public courses. The final straw is how they let their "members" do basically anything they want to do. On Saturday, we made the turn to find two foursomes waiting at the #10 tee. We are a traveling league so there was one of our foursomes ahead of us, and three behind. The Members were having an outing and wanted to squeeze between us. Then another group drove right across the teeing area on #12 WHILE WE WERE HITTING BALLS. No wave, no waiting until we teed off. They just cruised on by us. I almost wish that we had plunked one on them.

The course layout is great. This could be a fantastic course. Obviously, the ownership doesn't want to put any money into it.

If only they could patch this course up

Played this course multiple times. No matter when I have played it, they are always squishy spots in the fairways or major damage to the fairways. The holes #10, 14, 16, and 17 jump to the forefront. Also disappointed today to see that multiple greens that had dead spots painted/filled with green "stuff".

This is a very challenging course from the Blue tees. It could be fantastic if they could repair the problem areas. No matter how I play, my impression is that they need to fix the problem holes.

Good Saturday morning round

First time playing Farmstead GC this morning. No driving range to warm up. Good pace of play for a weekend round. Course lays out in front of you. That was especially nice for a first time play. Fairways and greens are in good shape for the most part (although I saw one fairway with a huge weed sticking up about 4 inches). Greens are flat without much break.
I don't think that I would want to play this course on a regular basis but it was a good change of pace.
