Old South Golf Links

Greens are SLOW. That said, the course is in great shape. It’s a target golf course, and if you miss those spots, you’re in big trouble. Staff was nice, starter was really cool. I played as a single, and flew through the first 8 holes. I caught up with the threesome on 9, but their pace was OK..........until the 12th hole (#3 on the course since we started on the back 9). We hit a group of foresome after foresome that we’re unbearably slow. It took over an hour to get through the next 3 holes. No ranger in sight. I quit on 7 because I couldn’t take it anymore. Told the bag drop guy, and he just stated that it was because I was a single that it felt slow, even though I told him it was over an hour since 3.

Played On 04/16/2019Great deal!!
We got a $10 hot deal. Older guy in the clubhouse seem to not enjoy the fact that we got on for $10, but c’est la vie. Course was in good shape. Fairways were starting to green with zoysia. Greens were in solid shape but much slower than usual.
University Park Golf Club

I was staying 45 minutes south of Chicago, so I wanted a course that was closer to my hotel than traveling closer to downtown. University was directly west of my hotel, so I gave it a try. Glad I did. The staff was very friendly, and even gave a couple of tips on getting around the golf course (which I didn't follow on 10 and paid for it), and let you know it was wide open today. The layout has interesting doglegs, which give you some risk/reward options. The course is very flat, and is pretty open in case you spray a couple of shots. Greens were very receptive, and rolled nicely. I really enjoyed this track!!

Played On 07/17/2018Great set up
Fairways were firm and fast, while still having some green in them. Greens were true with a couple minor exceptions. Overall I had a lot of fun!!

Very confused once I went off the first tee. It hadn't rained in two weeks, yet I watched my first ball plug in the fairway. I understand the fairways were in rough shape, but walking into puddles as I reach the fairway seemed a bit much. Every fairway was like this, an absolute swamp. Greens were in OK shape, and looked like they needed some attention as well. I have been here several times and enjoy the staff, layout, and typically the conditions. Not during this round. It was a grind.
The Willow at Golf Courses at Kenton County, The
Played On 06/15/2018Yikes!!
I have played every course this year at Kenton County, and the Willows was by far in the worst shape. Greens were hard as a rock and not very receptive. The greens has big holes where turf was missing, especially on the 10th and the 11th holes. The fringe areas had patches of long grass, and it seemed that my ball found the bare patch behind a piece of rough on two or three holes. The staff is friendly inside, but the mowers are going to do their job even if you are ready to tee off. I hit one over a mower because I was tired of waiting, and he stared me down on my next shot, then followed me until I got to the green. It was very frustrating!!!!
Fox Run at Golf Courses at Kenton County, The
Played On 05/21/2018Needs some work
I know that this course has had some issues. Two years ago it had some disease in the fairways and greens. Last year it looked like it had made a recovery. This year it looks as the recovery slowed. Fairways were still difficult to play from. Greens were smooth, and were in decent shape. There are a lot of spots on the course that needed some attention with a mower. 4th hole was unplayable if you weren't on the green. However, for $24 it was still worth it.
Soldiers Creek Golf Club
Played On 06/22/2016Great layout, But needs serious attention!!
I had read some reviews that the greens on the front side may be in bad shape. However, I couldn't turn down a $23 Hot deal. Now I wish I would have looked somewhere else. The upside is that the course is a nice layout. I like the setup, and Soldiers Creek has some neat dogleg holes, and the bunkers are placed in fair locations. The fairways were easy to play from, and the rough was a little more difficult, but it was very fair. Then there are the greens. I was told to start on the back 9, which is OK. I hit the practice greens right before my round, and I had to really swing my putter to get a ball to the hole. I thought the greens on the course would be different. THEY WERE NOT!! I have putted from fringe that is cut lower than these greens. Then I got to the front 9. The rough was not as lush, and the greens were scorched. Frankly there were spots where the green was simply unplayable. Plus the parts of the green that were playable were silly slow as well.
This could be a really neat course, but simply the person in charge of managing the course has failed to understand how to make it playable for the public. Hopefully they can fix this issue.
Gulf Shores Golf Club
Played On 06/20/2016Good Vacation Course
I enjoyed the round at Gulf Shores Golf Club. The staff was very friendly, and I like the idea of free range balls to start off a round. They have a really nice practice facility that includes greens with undulation to get a feel like you are on the course, a chipping area with bunkers (which I highly recommend to practice when at this course), and the driving range. There are four different tees which are as spread out as you will see on any course. Most have an 80 yard difference between front and back tees. The fairways and rough were playable, and the bermuda grass is quite spongy. My only complaint is that the greens were a little slow in comparison to playing at home. However I played later in the day and they say that bermuda greens get slower in the afternoon. Plenty of bunkers and water on this course, so you must navigate your way around them. Overall a great value of the twilight rate of $45.
Legendary Run Golf Club
Played On 06/14/2016Man up on this course!!
Legendary Run has always been a great track. If you can find a Hot Deal, then it is a bargain. I played from the gold tees, and all I can say is put your big boy pants on!! This is truly a challenging course!! The fairways were fast and firm, and the rough was gnarly and tough. Putting balls in the fairway is at a premium. The greens are in great condition, and they were firm and fast. Make sure you leave uphill putts. I made the mistake of putting a ball on the top tier on hole 9, and it was fun just 3 putting!! The staff is always friendly and the course is in peak condition. For a public course it is tough to find a better conditioned layout.
Shawnee Lookout Golf Course
Played On 06/04/2016Nice track for a bargain
I only had to pay $19 to ride on a Saturday night. The nice part was that there were about 10 people on the golf course, and I got through the round in about 2 hours. Greens are in good shape, even though they are a little slow. The course does a decent job of the layout given the hilly terrain, however be prepared to have some interesting lies. This is definately a position play course, and you only should take out driver about 4 or 5 holes.
We regret your round was slow but as a single that's to be expected when you have foursomes ahead of you. Try us again with a foursome - pace of play is maintained at 4 hours and 20 minutes.
