Carolina Lakes Golf Club
Played On 09/16/2023Course is just ok
My biggest complaints for this course is they have been charging premium rates in which the greens are below average at best. I don’t care what you see from other posts, but nearly every green has bad spots, tons of ball marks, so don’t expect your ball to roll smoothly to the hole, unless you luck out and find a good spot in the green.
My other complaint is that the course crams people on the course, sending players off both the front and back nines At the same time. We went off at 7:30, and played with no one in front of us, until we made the turn, and because they continue to start people on the back, we now had to wait on every hole and sometimes every shot on the back nine. Just a terrible way to manage the course, and the marshal did not seem to do anything to ensure the groups are moving at a good pace.
This course will always be a last resort, when I’m desperate to play.
Eagle Chase Golf Club
Played On 06/16/2023Recently aerated, but greens have problems
I’m a big fan of the course and play there regularly, however as of recent, the greens are not looking good, and certainly aren’t rolling smooth like normal.
Hopefully they will get that resolved quickly,
For now expect your putting lines to be impacted and slow.
Look forward to that getting cleared up!
Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation
Played On 08/29/2020Nice course Terrible greens
Course needs a new greens keeper. The greens are riddled with black spots,, ball marks, and is super soft.
One of the worse greens (every hole!) I have ever played. This would be a really great course if they had someone that could get the greens into playable condition. It’s been like this for several months. I’ve gone back every few weeks in hopes it’s gotten better, only to be disappointed once again.
I have a better putting surface on the carpet in my house.
Course off my play list until it gets better.
We apologize for the condition of our greens. The bent grass greens have suffered recently due to a combination of increased play, heat, and rain. We are working hard to have them back in great shape over the coming weeks. Thank you for your understanding and hope to have you back out this fall when the greens have healed up.

Played On 08/02/2020Way too expensive for course condition
I like the course and have played many times, but $75 for a course with greens in the current condition will keep me away for some time.
There are many other courses In the vicinity in much better shape and much cheaper.
Until course conditions improve, most notably the greens, it’s not worth more than $50.
Hopefully they will get the course back in shape soon, because I like the layout.
The Golf Club at Ballantyne
Played On 07/12/2020Good course, but pace is not managed
Course is in good shape, but expect a 4.5-5 hour round as there is no marshal to keep pace of play. For an $80+ round fee that is unacceptable.
Assume this is due to the course closing in the next year or two, no extra attention.
Santa Maria Golf Club
Played On 11/05/2017Great course, but hampered by poor drainage and terrible sand traps.
I've been playing Santa Maria for many years, and it has finally gotten back into good shape after the flooding took it's toll on a number of holes on the course.
You'll have a great time if it hasn't rained recently and you don't land yourself in one of the course bunkers.
The course continues to have poor drainage, so when there's any moderate amount of rain, expect to be cart-path only.
My biggest complaint on the course however is the condition of the sand traps, which absolutely suck! Where do I even start. First of all there is no sand in the traps, unless you consider dirt a sand substitute. Getting the ball out of the bunker and onto the green without even a quarter inch of sand will challenge the best golfers. I've seen more balls skulled out of the sand trap over the green because the club literally bounces off the ground in the bunker and into the ball. Drainage within the traps is so bad or non-existent, the traps will hold water for days even after it has rained. As I've seen at many courses I've travelled to, I have never seen any of the Santa Maria grounds crew riding around to pump out the water and rake the bunkers. I even overheard some of the marshals talking with other patrons saying they have no intentions of fixing the sand traps, which is an absolute shame.
All that said, I still play there regularly because it's the best course in Baton Rouge outside of the private courses.
So be wary of hitting out of the bunkers or you could find yourself in an unhappy scoring situation. After a recent rain, its not a bad idea to agree with your playing partners to just take a drop out of most all sand traps.
