Cally Palace Hotel
Played On 09/03/2022Whole course to myself! ;-)
Only one mad enough to go out as it was torrential rain on most of the day. Greens held up to the deluge until the last few holes where they were waterlogged. Had a bearing on green speed, but surfaces were nice and true, just a little slow. Everything else on the course in excellent condition.
Did not see facilities as had to drive straight on afterwards, but the Cally Palace Hotel looks amazing. Staff at reception, very friendly and helpful.
Staining Lodge Golf Course
Played On 05/29/2021First time playing
And not the last when travelling through the area.
Enjoyable course, though greens had been dressed recently, so slightly bumpy and slow. Fairways a little ragged, but no really bad lies anywhere. Was drawn with a couple of guys for the time slot, and had a very enjoyable round with them. Did not use off-course amenities, so did not rate them. Looked like a nice clubhouse though.
Bathgate Golf Club
Played On 01/18/2021A fair review based on the day
Obviously, it is winter time, therefore weather conditions play a factor.
So due to recent inclement weather, only 13 holes were in play, 2 reduced from Par 4s to par 3s, most on temp tees, and all on temp greens.
Had I known the above, I would not have booked. GolfNow policy is course ahs to be closed for refund. It may as well have been!
I've played here before, staff are friendly and helpful, and the course is usually in good condition. Temp greens, reduced holes, etc - not for me so this did not represent good value for money.
NOT knocking the course, more GolfNOW policy and advertising of what you are paying for.
Shotts Golf Club
Played On 10/01/2020First time playing
First time at Shotts GC, yet been living 15 mins away from it for 9 years! We played it a very heavy downpour earlier that morning, and yes, there were some very wet patches, but got to say, the course held up well!
I could see the drainage issues they had, and ground was squelchy underfoot, but not 1 plugged ball, despite a few skied shots.
Loved the layout, and the holes had to be thought about, especially for position off the tee with small greens, and pins tucked behind bunkers.
Weather stayed nice, and a with our early start, had a brisk game. Pro was friendly and helpful. Greens were a good pace, and true. Will be back for sure!
Fereneze Golf Club
Played On 08/28/2020Worth playing for the course AND the views
Nice layout, not overly long, but plays to it's strengths with the hills and the greens. Uphill for the first few holes, but nothing knackering (unless like my playing partner, you forget your trolley battery hehe). Views are amazing!! We had a good day and got to enjoy the course in very good condition, despite some very recent wet weather. Greens were amazing. Best I've putted on for last month.
Pro was friendly and helpful. Didn't rate clubhouse as did not use facilities. Driving nets and good putting green beside first tee. A lack of signage on the course would be my only complaint. A couple of times we followed paths from green to tee, or coming off the 18th to find we were going the wrong way.
Pumpherston Golf Club
Played On 07/01/20202nd game here in 11 years
Course has matured fantastically since I last played here. Greens were very true and a great pace considering the recent lockdown. Unfortunately, no clubhouse facilities open yet, but where I may not have played the course in 11 years, I have in the past hired a room there to deliver training, and used their catering. Staff friendly, and great clubhouse.
The course is not for big hitters on the most part as there are some great twists to the fairways and hazards on approaches to greens.
Dundas Parks Golf Club
Played On 06/17/2020Good 9 hole track
Course was is good condition despite recent restrictions, greens were a tiny bit slow, but to be expected. VERY true though! Nice track with a good bit of space about it. Some fairways are narrow, but well defined, and deep rough is well back.
Kilsyth Lennox Golf Club
Played On 08/08/2019Good course
Hard to review as I played the course nearly a year ago.
Golf Now send me a link to review the course I played TODAY! and it comes up with last year's round. Well done Golf Now.
This course is a good track. well worth playing from what I remember.
Eyemouth Golf Club
Played On 10/15/2018Eyemouth off the back sticks! :)
First time playing Eyemouth Golf Club, and for an October day, could not have gotten more lucky! Weather was sunny, temperature around 9 deg, and fairly light wind. For the time of year, the greens were in excellent condition. Putting green looked a little rougher, and some of the greens looked slower than others, but after 3 putting the first, I realised that the pace was good. The feature hole 6th is a great par 3 over the cliffs! Thankfully a solid 6 iron to about 20' and robbed on my birdie! :(
Staff were very friendly and was invited to play off back sticks, which for the long par 5 13th, added an extra 49 yards making it a 656 yarder!. Wicked slopes on some greens, especially SI1 No. 15.
Lovely track with only major slope being uphill 11th. Nice, easy walking course. Will be back! :)
Peterculter Golf Club
Played On 08/23/2018Lovely course - Worth a visit
Hard to imagine that this course is less than 30 years old - Very mature condition, great condition, especially greens and bunkers. Lots of tricky breaks on the greens gives the course it's bite. Some short holes, but not a pushover. One wrong bounce of an apron of a green could put you out of bounds! Lovely par 5s. Had an enjoyable game yesterday with a couple of guys i was drawn with and despite a few showers, got around dry, and enjoyed a course well worth playing! :)
Leven Links Golf Course
Played On 08/22/2018Played in Championship Tour
Played the course of yellow markers for this event.
Fairways and rough had suffered a bit due to the weather we have "enjoyed" of late, but the greens were in excellent condition. A good pace and very true. (The 3x3putts I had were all my own fault!).
Day started off a bit wet, but sun soon came out. Tight course off some tees, well placed bunkering and evil gorse! - Cost me at the last. Like a lot of Scottish course I play, I disagree totally with having a different par for the course of white and of yellow. No need for it, especially when there is only a handful of yards of difference. Make it a par 4 or a par 5. Simple!
Lovely old course, and look forward to playing it again sometime in the future. :)
Falkirk Golf Club
Played On 05/16/2018Got a game here at last! :)
Was to have played the course a few times in the past, thankfully got a nice day for an enjoyable round. Really liked the layout, some nice holes, mixing doglegs, tough straight holes, and enough undulations to test your game. Tee boxes need a bit of investment to level them out and improve the grass, fairways in good condition considering low lying nature of the course, some good, well placed water hazards add to the asthetics and difficulty. Greens in good condition though a little slow causing a few weird breaks (not my putting, I swear!). Friendly and helpful pro-shop staff and bar staff. Only downside really, is a pet peeve of mine. Don't have different pars!!! Par 71 off white, and par 69 of yellow - For the sake of a few yards. Ridiculous!
Blairgowrie Golf Club - Lansdowne Course
Played On 05/08/2018Senior Champions Tour 2018
First time playing this course as part of the Scottish Seniors Champions Tour. Really lovely challenging course. Tight driving lines, receptive greens. Course in excellent condition, and you could see the guys working hard out there. Could have played a lot better, but then I'm a little rusty when it comes to competition right now! :)
Baberton Golf Club
Played On 04/30/2018Baberton Golf
Really enjoyed playing Baberton at the end of April. Very friendly pro explained all to us and made us feel very welcome. Unfortunate about the local rule at the first that you must hit to a certain area due to housing proximity, but beyond that the course was in good condition, and the greens nice and true running at a decent pace. Glad we took the buggy as although the course is listed as "gently undulating", there are quite a few hills, which could drag the legs out of you if damp underfoot. Lovely views, nice course, decent challenge! :)
Brucefields Family Golf Centre
Played On 04/23/2018Nice wee track with great approaches!
This is a family centre, so did not expect course to be in good condition (after all the bad weather) and from it being pay and play. Nor did I expect there to be much of a challenge! Thankfully I was wrong! :)
Course was in really good condition after the bad weather, greens were true and running a nice pace. Fairways only a little patchy in places. Staff keep the course in great condition. For a short course, the approaches to the greens are very well designed with false slopes and good bunkering (good sand too!)
Newtonmore Golf Club
Played On 05/28/2017Lovely course - Rough is bad!
Enjoyed playing Newtonmore recently. Very friendly staff, the way clubs used to be! Nice relaxed atmosphere. Time was booked, but OK to go a little earlier. Nice layout, very similar to my old home club back in Ireland. Greens were nice and true, though a little slow, but understandable due to the weather. Day was bright, nicely overcast to help follow the ball flight, which is perfect in my book. Fairways were generally good, though a large portion of the course is at a low level, so some patchiness. Bunker sand looked good, but thankfully played well enough to avoid them. My only bone of contention was the rough. Some money needs to be found to spend on this. Vast portions of the rough was very uneven terrain covered with mostly weeds, hiding a lot of trip hazards, hidden ditches, and in some cases tree and bush stumps. Somebody is going to end up with a broken ankle or wrist!
Dullatur Golf Club - Carrickstone Course
Played On 05/12/2017Take a buggy! lol - 7th will kill you
Played today on a last minute deal - Enjoyed the course and despite it being a pretty strong breeze across the course, had a good day. Definitely taking a buggy next time however, as the walk up the 7th knackered me. Greens had been scarified which made the putting surfaces untrue, but needed after the recent spell of good weather - Some tees were rock hard. a course planner would have been nice as some distances to hazards, etc are not well defined. Few slopes on a few greens made them feel "tricked up" when there was no need to be.
Crow Wood Golf Club
Played On 08/01/2016Crow Wood :)
Enjoyed my first time around this course - Had heard some good things about it in the past and had a great time playing it this week.
Another reviewer has described it as being heavy underfoot, and that is the case due to the nature of their subsoil, and it shows in the quality of the fairway and rough grasses. Still a nice layout with some good holes. Best played after a dry spell for sure.
Greens were in great condition!
I did not take advantage of the facilities after the round, so can't comment on them. Wish a yardage book had been available though as it does help you pick your lines and what clubs to hit, etc.
Strabane Golf Club
Played On 06/12/2016Brilliant greens!
Strabane is a tough course when the wind blows from the South, Slightly easier when blowing from the opposite direction as the 2 par 5s will be downwind.
Signature hole is the par 4 9th. River and out of bounds along the left side, with a bank of gorse and a ditch down the right. 11 to 25 yard wide fairway is a tough target to hit, especially of the Blue Markers which are in use for the annual 36 hole Scratch Cup.
Greens are immaculate and the course is presented very well. Friendly staff at reception, shop, bar and on course enhance your experience.
Well worth a visit! :)
