Osceola Municipal Golf Course
Played On 07/06/2022Shrinkflation Hits Divot Sand
Asked golfer at the 1st-Hole empty stand, "Where's the Divot Sand?" "Shrinkflation," was all he said. Upon arrival at 10th-Hole, its Divot Sand stand was empty too. I love this noble, historic (1926) course. Shamefully, Administrators have let it deteriorate remarkably in the two short years I've played Osceola. Another golfer remarked, sadly, the course looks like Beirut-- bombed out. Club Pro, Admin, City Council, Mayor-- you're not saving $$$ by removing Divot Sand so that players can do their part to repair club strikes. And where are the ball washers! Cypress Lakes has repair sand, ball washers, and is in so much better condition and cheaper to play there. You're giving the impression that you want everyone to contribute to Osceola's deterioration so you can shut it down! Result: Co$t to play grossly out of whack w/ course condition. Please show some Pride of Ownership and get this venerable, Century-old Gem back in playable condition.

Played On 01/15/2021Windy Days Still Fun to Play Osceola
This is my favorite Course. I love these venerable old Courses designed in the heyday of American golf, the 1920s (1926 for Osceola). Don't underestimate this Course. The Golf Course Architect speaks to you on every hole. It's like having your own private Coach. This tree here, this sand trap there. The greens are especially not to be taken for granted-- they are challenging. I just love Osceola as it is 5-YEARS from its 100th Birthday!

Advise everyone okay Cypress Lakes until Osceola re-opens both restrooms on the course proper.
Golf courses are struggling enough without making your Guests find a tree! Get a grip.
Cypress Lakes friendly golf course: no silly mask requirement, their restrooms are open. And fairways aren't torn up badly, they're beautifully maintained.

Played On 10/14/2020Thanks for Re-Opening so Quickly post-Hurricane Sally
Sad to hear Osceola lost 31 trees in Hurricane Sally. City & Staff did amazing job bringing the Course back online so quickly. This Course, built in 1926, is my favorite. You can't beat the Old School classic courses for character and "Soul."
The Golf Course Architect talks to you here if you listen for it.
P.S. New CART PATHS are beautiful!

I've come to learn through years on the links that a quick way to determine if the Course employees are treated well is silly but tell-tale: is there clean, soapy water at the ball washing stations? Even today, when courses are closing due to lowered attendance (tough for millennials w/ 2.3-sec. attention span to endure a 3-hr. round of golf)-- many courses who lack self-respect keep muddy water in the washers. Conditions yesterday were perfect. Staff ALWAYS friendly. And I love how the golf course Architect smiles on well-placed shots at Osceola. THANK YOU Osceola for all except the 60-foot would-be chip-in on Hole-#07 that hit the pin and landed a foot away.

Played On 01/28/2020Challenging Greens
My favorite course. Don't let the greens fool you. Tricky! If you don't pay attention, the ball can go sailing past the hole on these undulating greens. Always a pleasure to play this Muni course built in the 1920s, during the heyday of American golf.

Played On 12/27/2019Love this Historic Course But Marshall Wasn't Marshalling
I play this wonderful Course exclusively. But one must have the Patience of JOB to play before/during/after any holiday. Either no marshalls, or such as today, Osceola actually had a Marshall who would not pick up the pace of play. (I know, because I asked the Marshall. Didn't happen.)
People nowadays have limited attention spans-- golf participation is declining because of this. Will the CITY "wake up" and realized that we'd all play more often if you'd get Marshall(s) who actually do their job of keeping the Pace of Play and asking POKEY groups to let faster players "play through?" It's the etiquette of golf Rules. They're for a reason!

I love this time-honored Course. My favorite. Play today was AGONY. Got behind a pokey 5-some who forgot their golf etiquette of allowing faster groups to "play through." On Hole-#12 when I came up, there were FOUR golf carts piled up waiting there. Management seriously needs to arrange for Marshalls when you KNOW it's going to be super busy on a Holiday e.g. Veteran's Day.

Played On 10/31/2019LOVE Osceola So Much I Play in Frosty Conditions!
I love this friendly (in so many ways) Muni course so much I went out today in 13+ mph winds, 58F. degree WET weather to play. Alas, got rained out after the first hole, but I'll be back. Staff super friendly, welcoming-- a real PLUS. The Old Municipal courses really are the prizes in the golf world. Osceola is my go-to for Golf.

Played On 06/27/2019Pleasant Surprise 1st Visit
First time playing Osceola. Pleasant surprise! Best of all-- greens are in great condition and extremely forgiving. Sunk a 26-foot putt for par on Number-03. Putts actually travel true on these greens. Course overall has nice undulations, forgiving fairways, and enough challenges-- trees, sand, water features. Staff VERY friendly even to this GolfNOW reservation-- me (which isn't always the case, so... THANK YOU!).
Salado Del Rio at Fort Sam Houston Golf Course
Played On 03/13/2019Favorite Course
This is my favorite Course in San Antonio. The Staff is always friendly, even w/ GolfNOW Reservations. Pace of play today was excellent-- the Wednesday Marshall was doing a good job out there. Salado del Rio is forgiving if playing to the course architect, but not if trying to cut corners. Paying attention and playing to the layout is rewarded by a generous number of pars. I was hitting 3-ft., 4-ft., and the occasional 8- and 10-ft. putts all day. LOVE SDR!
Windcrest Golf Club
Played On 01/06/2019Always a Pleasure || Always Friendly
Always a pleasure to play Windcrest. Pace of play this Sunday was excellent. Greens in good shape considering it's Winter. Staff always friendly. This is a challenging little course-- just as I like them. Don't be fooled! Will really test your short game.
La Loma at Fort Sam Houston Golf Course
Played On 11/28/2018Historic Course
I was keenly aware of the venerable history of La Loma-- 1937 A.W. Tillinghast design; its the only military course to host a PGA event; and site of Sam Snead's 1950 Texas Open victory win. Ample use of bunkers, thoughtfully placed. Greens were a little beat up-- does anyone repair divot marks any more? Fairways were in decent condition for this time of year-- falling leaves, loads of rain. Plenty of decisions for carry through or layup shots. Since Fort Sam has opened its doors, civilians now have a chance to follow in the footsteps of many professionals who played in the Texas Open championships played at La Loma in the 1950s and 1960s. I will be back.
SilverHorn Golf Club of Texas
Played On 11/01/2018Always Friendly, Always a Pleasure
Golf course architect speaks volumes at Silverhorn. Generous fairways entice strategically placed shots to steer clear of the tree-eating golf balls. Plenty of challenges for any level golfer. Staff is always welcoming, super friendly. Even the cart lady is personable. Will come back!

Hancock Golf Course
Played On 03/16/2018Oldest Golf Course in Continuous Use West of the Mississippi
What's not to love about Hancock! Historic course, you're treading over some hallowed ground. Harvey Penick played here. Challenging layout. Fairways and greens nicely manicured. The crew puts loads of love into this little gem. Karen was gracious as could be. You can tell how loved this course is! Great way to work on your short game. Had a blast.
jodygrenga, thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing Cypress Lakes Golf Club.
