Links at Lawsonia Golf Course
Played On 08/17/2021Great value, wee overrated
So much love out there for Lawsonia hate being (slightly) critical. Don't get me wrong it's a extremely fun course, the staff was great, the quirks are worth the visit and the value is second to none. But I would call it more Links "style" as the fairways while somewhat firm do not roll like a true links. Greens and tee boxes were pretty beat up, but again for the price, I'm not complaining. Driving range was closed as the picker was short parts they couldn't get, but who really cares it's all about the golf. Box car # 7 is super fun, as are so many approach shots. Do wish they'd cut the rough down was impossible to see a ball unless you're on top of it, and the whites @ ~6500 yards with the large greens made it play much more than 6500. In the afternoon for our second 18 we made it to # 12 and there were 4 groups on the hole at the same time, and thus cut our round short.
La Cantera Resort - The Palmer Course
Played On 11/28/2018Very fun layout
Staff was terrific, super friendly and welcoming. Clubhouse was spectacular, looks like it’s been there for 100 years. Luxurious lockeroom and seating areas, was too early but very nice bar overlooking 9 and 18 greens. Arnold designed a challenging but fair course. A few artificial looking waterfalls, creeks and ponds but mostly appears to use the Hill Country elevation to perfection. A few blind tee carries but more landing room than you’d expect on a fairly tight course. Greens rolled nicely, fairway was in good shape for the season. Miss The King!

Cannot believe this course is not rated higher. Only has a few ocean views but is one of the most playable, challenging, picturesque courses I’ve ever seen. Links golf at it’s finest.
Cantigny Golf - Lakeside/Hillside
Played On 09/25/2017Course in terrific shape
Always a pleasure to play Cantigny. The course as usual was in great shape, the tees, fairways and greens all very well manicured, and the rough and natural areas are starting to turn to fall colors making it the course visually appealing. Service slow in the restaurant but the food was quite good, overall a great experience. Hard to go wrong with Cantigny.
Eagle Eye Golf Club
Played On 09/23/2017Great challenge
Really enjoyed this course. Holes are well spaced apart and fairways wide enough for average golfers. Plenty of trouble in the rough. Tees, fairways and greens all in terrific shape. Had a good round going till 17 and 18 what a challenge! Suggestion for the club - good idea to order your food on 8 to speed the turn up but when we got to the bar, we waited for probably 20 minutes with 1 bartender who was not very fast serving a dozen different people standing there waiving $20s. A dedicated turn window would be much better. Locker facilities could use some cleaning and updating. Overall well worth the trip is a great course.
Lost Marsh Golf Course
Played On 08/27/20172nd try - Too Crowded
2nd try in a few years at this course. Staff was friendly enough and the clubhouse is spectacular. Skipped the range. Knew first 4 holes were murder and while somewhat interesting they create a real log jam right out of the gate with the par 3 second hole. Why courses make the second hole a three makes no sense. So many hazards and chances for lost balls on those first four the group just loses its enthusiasm for playing. After that it gets more enjoyable but what really bothers me is how close the greens and tee boxes are. It's actually scary. Teeing off on 10 you have groups firing rockets off one almost right at you. Italian beef at the 8/12 snack shack made up for a lot. The last 4-5 holes are well designed despite the ugly storage tanks and make you enjoy the course overall. I can put up with the crazy starting 4 but my group said they're done with this course. Waited in every single tee, but still finished in 4h30m starting at 7:30 on a Sunday. Don't see how they can ever speed up play with trouble on almost 100% of shots on the first 9. Back far more playable.
French Lick Resort - The Pete Dye Course
Played On 06/04/2017Blown away
They treat you like a king from the moment you pull up. Forecaddies pair with you on the practice facility, cleaning you clubs, which I've never seen at a public facility. Course is spectacular, the views are breathtaking. The clubhouse is small but has everything you need and the food was great. Overall a memorable destination.
Wildcat Golf Club - The Highlands
Played On 03/22/2017True to it's name
Great course layout, greens were pristine...lots of forced carries, blind shots, uphill lies. Challenging but fair. Clubhouse facilities, driving range (mats), bar & food was great. Good beer on the beer carts and friendly cart girls. The pro-shop / check in staff could certainly be more friendly and welcoming.
Tunica National Golf and Tennis
Played On 03/07/2017Great despite heavy rains
Friendly check in at the clubhouse, nice pro-shop and clubhouse. The range is a bit of a drive from the clubhouse but was nice. Had quite a few chipping and practice greens for putting, sand shots, overall a great practice facility. Had been raining pretty hard for a few days so the course was waterlogged. Layout was challenging for my 17 handicap but still fun and playable. Greens were soaked which made putting actually easier. Look forward to playing more in season - overall a very nice course.
Bridlewood Golf Club
Played On 01/31/2017Fun but challenging
Really like this clubhouse. Check in staff was friendly enough. Bar tender a very nice guy. Lots of practice room area, ability to do full chips onto a practice green (two actually) which is really nice. Most courses seemed to have banned that. Course still brown from winter but the fairways were maintained and greens in surprisingly good shape. Only complaint is one hole that comes up on the driving range - if you go too far right on the par four you may get plunked.
Course #4 Dubsdread at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club
Played On 09/15/2016Hoped for more
Clubhouse staff not very friendly. Clubhouse Staff and Starter failed to mention hole # 2 was closed. Starter however was super friendly with lots of local tips. So overall that was really frustrating. Driving range and putting green locations not very convenient. The course itself (the other 17 holes) were in great shape, greens were beautiful and was very challenging. Really enjoyed the course would probably go back but wish Cog would run this place like the premium for the area that they charge. Didn't feel valued.
Southbridge Golf Club
Played On 03/23/2015Excellent value
Only complaints are some holes not well marked, cart path needs replacement. A very fun track with progressive difficulty. Very much enjoyed it.
Bowes Creek Country Club
Played On 09/23/2014Wow
Blown away. $55 is an absolute steal. If this was close to Chicago it'd be $125 or more. Pristine condition, super challenging, killer layout. Great elevation changes and undulations make every shot challenging. Will be going back for sure.
