Fun course

Always enjoy Tangle Ridge. The course was in great shape especially considering the drought we are in. Pace of play was great! Actually waited on a hole or two and still played in under 4 hours. It is well worth the drive!

Country Club? Really?

Well maintained, hilly, tree lined course, at one time. Not any more. The rock hard brown fairways tell me the sprinkler system still may have some issues. There are piles of sand in the traps that need to be spread out. That is a good sign. Tee boxes are pretty brown much like the fairways. Greens have improved but have a long way to go. I am not an expert but if I were to guess they are probably running about 5 on the stimpmeter. If the course doesn't get significant rain it is going to be in trouble.

I question those folks that say the management team has the place heading in the right direction. It is obvious from the run down conditions that they are not serious about reviving this, one time, fun course. The potholes in the parking lot, the dilapidated driving range net, the washed out cart path between 5 and 6 (which has been that way for well over a year) all point to a course that is barely limping along. Probably the highlight of the day was the grass on the practice tee. It was pretty nice. Of course the used practice balls from Colonial kind of take away from that country club feel. The gentleman in the pro shop, the beverage cart driver and the halfway house attendant were all quite friendly.

If you are looking for something above average or maybe even a little bit high end you will be disappointed. If you want golf on the east side of Fort Worth your dollars would probably be better spent going across I 30 to Meadowbrook. It is a muni but you know that going in.

I wish the folks at Woodhaven well and hope the course can be revitalized. Unfortunately at this point I am not very optimistic.

Sunday Play

Enjoyed the course very much. Once we get some warmer weather I think this course will be in great shape. Huge greens with lots of humps and bumps. Hitting the green is nice but certainl doesn't guarantee a two putt. This is a fun place to play.

Buyer Beware

From the minute you pull in to the parking lot you are underwhelmed. Generally the place looks run down. The protective netting around the driving range is torn and falling down which leads to the unkempt look. The greens are in rough shape. Especially 3, 5, 6, and 9. several bunkers (four I think) are played as ground under repair. This time of year it is hard to tell about the fairways but they stood out this summer as a bright spot on the course. The staff is friendly and the food was decent, but who goes to a course because the food is good.

Reading another review the reviewer says the greens are victims of frost. That is not true. The greens began to deteriorate in the summer of 2015 because of neglect. The conditions continued to decline through out the summer of 2016, until September/October, when a new superintendent was hired. There has been some improvement but the results won't be known until this spring.

Another reviewer claims most of the members have died. Again, not true. Many members left in August and September due to the poor conditions. They are alive and well and have moved on to "greener" pastures.

In its day Woodhaven was a fun course with a great membership. Hopefully the improvements will continue and it can regain some of its former glory. For now try some of the other courses in the area.
