Challenging Course, Great Layout

I’ve played Worldwoods Pine Barrens 3 times. It is about an hour north of Tampa but well worth the drive. They are having some issues with the greens. I’m not sure if this is a seasonal issue or due to the heat and recent dry spell. Almost every green had.a dead area which had recently been covered with sand. All bunkers, even green side bunkers are treated as waste areas. Adding a rake, especially around the greens would be helpful. We played out of deep footprints on several shots. Otherwise it is a great layout with some beautiful and challenging holes. Local knowledge is key on some of the dogleg holes.
Friendly staff and decent food at the turn. We will return.

Pleasant Morning at Westchase

My brother and I were looking for reasonably priced golf courses in the Clearwater area. We picked up a GolfNow reservation and discovered the price we paid was just about the normal weekday rate. The staff was very attentive and courteous. We got in and out of the proshop, hit a few, putted a few and played a quick round in about 3 hours. Greens were true and quick. As it was the first time on the course we played up a box and found it to be plenty challenging. We had lunch after the round and the restaurant was OK. I will be back.

Really Close to Great

Nice track in good condition. Pace of play was slow due to a tournament not mentioned by a starter. Front nine took almost 2:40, back 9 was better.

didn't see the ranger until the turn.Just let us know what to expect and we can handle it.

No food at the turn and it wasn't 1:00 yet. it was too far to get back to the clubhouse. Disappointing that bev cart didn't bring some cold sandwiches out. We were one 4 groups looking for a dog or burger.

Nearly Perfect Scottish Golf Experience

I had hoped to play St Andrews while on my Scottish adventure last summer but the Senior Open Championships was being played the weekend following my visit and the Old Course was closed to public play.
On the advice of my good friend, Biggs Tabler, I scheduled a round at North Berwick on my 60th birthday. I arrived early on Sunday morning following an amazing Saturday at The Open in Carnoustie. John greeted me at the clubhouse and gave me a quick orientation. I checked my bag and went upstairs for coffee. The room was full of golfers watching the Sunday morning action at the Open. I spotted a familiar face from Kentucky and introduced myself to Steve Flesch and his son having breakfast as Steve settled his bill.
I found the starter and prepared to play with a gentleman from Bloomington, Indiana. When the other half of our 4-some failed to show, the starter asked if we minded being paired with Steve and his son. Are you kidding me?
What a start to an amazing day! The weather was clear but windy as we played out. My caddie, Stevie, was very pleasant and helpful as there are blind shots and atypical hazards (stone fences) on this beautiful and historic course. It was impossible to play without talking a few photos, so we did and those will be treasured memories of an amazing day.
The beautiful and friendly clubhouse, memorable golf course, friendly staff and the most amazing views I have ever experienced will bring me back to North Berwick, hard by the Firth of Forth.

Nice track, slow play

I know it is pretty typical for a "resort course", but 5:20 is WAY too long for a round of golf. Most surprised to find the holdup was a group of 5 inexperienced golfers hitting multiple balls off each tee while a Marshall watched as 3 groups stacked up on the 5th hole.
The course is great, the staff is friendly, but the Marshall explained the group was only playing 9 holes and we needed to be patient. 3 hours+ for 9 holes is unacceptable. We played the back under 2 hrs.

Disney Never Disappoints

I played LBV after Christmas. From the bag drop to the player assistants on course, everyone seemed to really care that our round was a pleasant experience. An enthusiastic young lady from Kentucky met us at the bag drop. Chris in the pro shop was friendly and accommodating. We grabbed a quick bite at Chips & Slices and started our round. Course conditions were excellent. Traps were raked, greens rolled true & quick and the pace of play (4 hrs on the nose) was well managed by both GPS reminder and on course marshals. The beverage cart was well stocked and we saw Brooke at least 4 times throughout the round. After the round we were greeted by Bobby, the course manager and he invited us to return to LBV during our stay. It is easy for resort courses to coast on the steady traffic they get from vacationing golfers, but the friendly people at LBV went out of their way to make sure the round was a good value, regardless the cost. I plan to play again.

Orange Lake Reserve

My brother and I played the Legends Course at Orange lake last year and had a pleasant experience. We thought we would give the Reserve course a try. I was surprised that the pro shop was in a convenience store (the Marketplace). Before "hello" the attendant said "don't ask for range balls, we don't have any". OK....not a deal breaker, but when we got to the range there were several golfers on the range hitting balls - really?...come on. The starter didn't know the pin placement, or what that even meant. We asked about a beverage cart and were told it was available - it was not. I'm not feeling great at this point and I'm thinking we over paid for this experience.
We met a pleasant couple on the tee and began our round. As we hit our second shot we looked back to see 6 carts on the first tee. Apparently a family outing. Good timing on getting out in front of this golf course party.
From there things got better. The course was in pretty good condition and the greens rolled slow but true. Traps were generally raked. The round was well paced; 4 hours on the money and two groups let us play through. We saw a ranger once, but things moved well throughout the round.
There was no beverage cart and the single water cooler on each nine was dry. If you play the Reserve, bring your own. The only available food at the turn was vending machine sandwiches, but they were passable. Lunch for 2 (2 chicken salad sandwiches, 2 beers and chips) was $28 - credit card only at Orange Lake.
The cart attendant at the end of the round was very pleasant and overall, I would play this course again with lower expectations and a close eye on the price - good deal at $25, but there are a lot of options in the Orlando area for tourists golfers in the $50 range. I am generally not a complainer and good course conditions and pace of play go a long way to make up for any short comings. I'll play Legends Course next time around.
