When publicly accessible, college and university golf courses are normally very good values and can be the cornerstone of a fun buddies golf weekend, especially if you're able to combine it with football tailgating or some other festive campus event.
Other university courses meanwhile can be exclusive, like Oklahoma State's Karsten Creek or Duke University's course. The University of Texas Golf Club is a licensed private course well west of the Longhorn campus.
As many big-time universities enjoy great investments from alumni donors into their athletic departments, a collection of college courses have benefitted. University of Virginia's Birdwood Golf Course is currently under the knife. And one of the more notable college golf projects at the moment can be found in Bloomington, as Steve Smyers is totally rebuilding the golf course at Indiana University. Pete Dye has offered his services to many campuses. One of his earliest works is at Radrick Farms, owned by the University of Michigan. One of his most significant contributions is at Purdue's 36-hole Birck Boilermaker complex, which most recently updated the Ackerman course.
